LOS ANGELES — A stretch of road in Los Angeles has been renamed after former President Barack Obama.A concert and ceremony Saturday unveiled Obama Boulevard. The street replaced Rodeo Road, a 3 ½-mile street that runs across the city’s historic black neighborhood. It also intersects with Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and further establishes a “presidential row” that includes Washington, Adams and Jefferson boulevards.“I get to live in a lifetime where we elected our first black president,” The Rev. Russell Thornhill of South Los Angeles told KABC TV. “I get to share that with my mother,

Its California, a bunch of fools. Its probably 3 1/2 miles of pot holes littered with homeless tents.

I know it well. Don´t go near it during the day unless you´re packing. Don´t go near it at night even if you are.

This is a pokey few mile road through a really crummy part of Los Angeles. Hardly an honor, although it is not far from MLK Boulevard, another really crummy street (boulevard?)… Primarily black area.
We saw the hyped up local news yesterday as they were getting ready for this “celebration”. It was ludicrous.
His legacy will end up being these little local blackish deals - and perhaps an orange jumpsuit.

I am fascinated when purportedly smart people decide that this stuff is somehow representative of California. They obviously do not know California and Californians. Or perhaps it is just another gotcha opportunity?

I lived in LA for several years. Even my black co-worker locked his doors when driving through that area.

Obama Blvd. replaced Rodeo Rd. (not to be confused with Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills.)
This road intersects with MLK Blvd. and is to be avoided at all costs after sunset.

Does this improve the living conditions there?
Does it raise the standard of living?
Does it lower the Crime Rate?

I lived in Culver City at one time and hated how rude the large black population was. I can´t think of a single exception.

Street names such as "MLK" or "obama" are very helpful to travelers. Whenever I am to visit a city I have not visited before, I look at a map and find MLK Blvd, or any street named for a famous black or Latino person. I then make it a point to avoid said street and the surrounding area. Simple survival instinct.

Intersectionality in a nutshell. We have the slaves like Obama crossed up with the slave-owners like Washington and Jefferson. Or were they maybe talking George Jefferson. I´m simply too confused and deplorable to vote Democrat.

Re #18, I worked in Culver City for a few years. Was told to seriously secure and alarm my then fairly new Toyota Celica Supra. Why? Because thieves were breaking into these cars to take the wonderful leather-covered seats! I then had my very first car alarm installed.
It’s a jungle down there.
I am enjoying the Asian population that has grown in our part of LA County. A relatively classy crowd, who themselves drive Mercedes and other luxury cars and give their kids similar wheels when they graduate from high school. The kids are well-behaved and excellent students who head for the library to study after school rather than hanging out on the streets.
Obama will find his name on police reports regarding crime on his namesake street/road.

They should rename the intersection of Normandie and Florence ´Obamaland´, which is where the 1992 LA Riots started.

Remember that saying - “Nothing good ever happens on any MLK Blvd”? Now we can add to it - “Nothing good ever happens on 0bama Blvd”.
#24, thanks for pointing out that thing about police reports - that’s hysterical and so fitting!
