As readers may recall, in recent years, after announcing a rare bit of activity from yours truly, I have generally observed that I am engaging in such against the advice of my doctors. So it was that I spent over a month in Ukraine, venturing hither and yon and trying to stay one step ahead of the bombs and drones. I was thinking, since that went so well, I'd rest up for a few weeks and maybe head to the Persian Gulf. Alas, that will not now be happening.

The other day President Trump Truthed out former Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen's demand for the failed "decapitation strategy" to be extended to Iran's negotiating team:(Snip)Even though it's a strategic flop for the Yanks and Israelis, the "decapitation strategy" is sufficiently irksome to Tehran that, in the event President Trump is minded to do as his Truth Social hints and resume it, the mullahs would this time reciprocate with a little decapitation of their own.

Now they control twenty per cent - and their parliament's plan is for the "Tehran toll-booth" to become a permanent fixture. Which would mean they control more of the world's oil than America.

(Snip}Yesterday, for example, another dozen US servicemen were wounded and multiple refuelling aircraft were crippled at the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia. America's military bases in the Gulf are some of the most expensive on the planet, and yet, as with the killing fields of eastern Ukraine, they're highly vulnerable to drones that cost a few thousand bucks. Result?

It's time to move past your reticence to have initiated the war and get behind Trump. Your fear that it might end badly is noted.
"Get behind Trump"? That might be better directed at Vance, Gabbard, Kennedy and other cabinet members whose discomfort with the strange turn of events is palpable either through their sudden absence from public life or when they're testifying to Congress and trying to walk the fine line between not getting fired now and not getting impeached by the incoming Democrat majority in January.

~This news is too sad. From Old Dominion University in Virginia: The victim of the terrorist attack at Old Dominion has been identified as Lt. Col. Brandon Shah-- who was a Professor of Military Science and the leader of the university's ROTC program. So Colonel Shah survived the century's worthless unwon wars including "America's longest war" - Operation Enduring Freedom (how'd that endure, by the way?) - only to come home and die at the hands of one of his "fellow Americans" screaming - go on, take a wild guess; yeah, bingo! - "Allahu Akbar!"

Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., is not helping the situation. Since the U.S.-Israeli-led operation against Tehran began, Graham has rushed to every microphone and television camera available to express his unbridled enthusiasm about the campaign. When he isn’t bragging about how much money the U.S. is going to make as a result of the conflict, he’s calling for more American intervention in countries like Cuba and Lebanon.

Today's events are disturbing..." I'll say. For one thing, the statement is dated Friday August 9th 2019, and Mr Epstein was not "found unresponsive in his cell" until Saturday August 10th.

Britain is in even worse shape than I thought. From the Telegraph: “Air conditioning torn from homes under net zero clampdown.”
Homeowners are being forced to tear out air conditioning from their private properties under climate laws, despite rising temperatures.
Council planning officers ordered residents to remove air-con units over fears they produce too much carbon dioxide, stating they should only be used as a “last resort”.
The net zero clampdown is part of building regulations that state “active cooling” should only ever be allowed when all other means of “passive cooling”, such as opening windows or using fans, have been exhausted.

I am a regular listener to Mark Steyn's weekly audio show where he talks current events and culture. He disappeared in mid-May while in Ukraine. Since then competent and interesting substitute hosts for his show have kept mum about what happened to him. Yesterday Steyn surfaced and explained his absence. I'm happy he is back.
