Following direct remarks from both Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, a triggered Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says the U.S. will not be permitted to dictate terms of the USMCA renegotiation, now scheduled for formal talks with Mexico only beginning May 25th.According to the Canadian leadership they do not need the United States in order to maintain their economy. I’ll never set foot in Canada again. If I fly overseas, and it involves switching planes anywhere in Canada, I won’t go. I missed a connection in Toronto eight years ago due to their security checks at the airport, and I had to spend the night in the airport. The next day, I was subjected to the same security screening, even though I’d spent the whole night in the airport. A year later, I nearly missed another connection in the same airport due to their slow security screening. In both cases, all the other passengers were Americans. Canadians have all developed a hatred of us. The whole country has gone batshite crazy. They have no military forces left; they depend on us to protect them. Vancouver is now run by Chinese drug gangs and smugglers. Their politicians are all socialists. Canada has nothing we need or want, with the possible exception of some maple syrup. We ought to just seal our common border, and be done with them.

The USMCA is an approved treaty, voted for by the Senate by a large margin, back in 2020. In order for a treaty to be operationalized, the advice and consent of the Senate is required by the Constitution. Whether Trump can unilaterally withdraw the US from the USMCA and/or replace it completely, perhaps using a non-treaty agreement, will no doubt be vigorously debated. While the Constitution is clear with regard to treaties, case law involving various executive agreements is essentially a 'pick'em.' If the treaty structure is retained but the agreement terms with Canada and Mexico are renegotiated, whether the president can rack things up and gain Senate approval before the midterms is shaping up to be a rather huge deal.

When NAFTA first reared its ugly head, I thought it would work fine IF all parties enforced all the requirements. Instead, we got suckered into a plan where the US had to follow every rule to the letter, but everyone else got a free pass. Want to drive your car into their country? Inspections, insurance requirements, bribes required... want to drive your deathtrap into the US with no license and no insurance? No problem. The 2020 treaty enforcement has been no better. Forget it. End the treaty.

The Snow Birds have morphed into the Snow Mexicans. They take advantage of our trade, our healthcare (YES, its a major reason many come here because their theoretically superior system sucks in reality), and the protection of our military, without which they would become a cold province of China (been to Vancouver lately?). They imagine themselves more intelligent and more virtuous than us, but they're going to find out quickly the consequences of not appreciating the advantages WE have provided them.

Carney wants to be seen as a global player but he’s not. Trump has damaged his manhood. Unfortunately for Carney, Canada has been riding our economic coattails for decades. They do not have the economy, means of production or military to stand alone. Trump has a lot on his plate right now. I’m guessing that Carney’s feeble attempts to provoke him are low on his list of things to care about.
