Hybrid Drivers Face Pay-Per-Mile Tax Hit
Despite Proof They Rarely Use Electric

Labour is pressing ahead with plans to make hybrid drivers liable for a new pay-per-mile tax despite admitting they barely use their vehicles in electric mode. The Telegraph has the story. Plug-in hybrid cars (PHEV) will become liable for Rachel Reeves’s new electric road tax from 2028, with each mile driven attracting a 1.5p fee. It will be half the 3p levy paid by owners of electric vehicles (EVs). Last year, justifying the policy, the Treasury said PHEV motorists drove “more or less than 50% in electric mode”.

I can see the value in a hybrid. The majority of the time I too would be using fuel, but it might be nice to save a bit in running around my small town. It is just so complicated a device! I'm having conniptions over a friend's Toyota Tundra...it shuts itself off at times! I mean really, that could never be bad...

Wait a minute, wait a minute. This is a per-mile tax and I'm complaining about it because I DON'T DRIVE? This is exactly the kind of tax I want. Currently, there's a tax on gas. I use more gas, I pay more tax. But people are driving less and hybrids use less gas so the govvie guys are trying to make up for the shortfall in revenue with a per mile tax. Well, if it's less than what I would pay at the pump, it's a bargain, and we ALL know that hybrids are bettr than gas cars, right??? Right? So I pay a bit but less than driving a gas car.; That's a deal. But maybe the per mile tax is a deal breaker... And it's cheaper to have the gas only car. Oh. I can see the heads exploding over that.

First the government pushes people into EVs and other alternative fuel vehicles to "save the environment". Now, the government cries about lost gas tax revenue because people did what the government wanted them to do. What did the government expect would happen? So being responsible and wanting to save the world(at the government's request) now comes with extra taxes for those who simply wanted to help save gas and the world. The government is schizophrenic and needs to decide what it really wants.

It is my understanding that hybrid cars, being a mix between fuel/electric power, charge theirt batteries during the gasoline use. I dont believe that Hybrids can be charged like an all EV..

Re #6 some hybrids are "plug in hybrids" and can be charged from a cord. I rented a Fiat (badged Dodge) Hornet hybrid (after telling the clerk, "no hybrids, no EVs") and it had a plug in door flap on the left, and a gas door flap on the right. And periodically, driving down the road the tachiometer would just drop to zero.....as the engine shut down to run on electricity for a while. The hybrid part worked, but everything else about the car was a PITA...so "helpful" that I almost couldn't get out of a restaurant parking place....cars moving way off to the side behind me were sensed and pushing the throttle did nothing until the damned car decided it was OK. I hated it.

I am old and my two Toyotas are gas only. I won't have to worry when they get around to mandating EVs for every vehicle on the road. We have enough oil to make gasoline for the next hundred years but the greens are so ideologically against common sense that they would happily send armed police to seize your gas/oil powered cars/trucks if given the power to do so. They are heavily invested in the 'free' power from windmills and solar panels and our government will become a true dictatorship so they can mandate what we drive, how we act and what we say. Look at the difference in the consequences for the J6ers for protesting a rigged election and then the BLM felons who burned cities down.

famous saying of Anton Chekhov’s has been making the rounds. “If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall,” Chekhov advised, “in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it’s not going to be fired, it shouldn’t be hanging there.” I wonder if the thugs and theocrats who have been plundering Iran for the last 47 years have read Chekhov. If so, I conclude that they are slow learners. In January, the Iranian authorities slaughtered more than 40,000 protesters—

President Trump has called off sending a US delegation to Pakistan Saturday for peace talks with Iran – nixing a trip he said would be a waste of time. Trump, who told a Post reporter in Islamabad to “come home” shortly after he made the announcement, said his team was wasting too much time on traveling. “I just cancelled the trip of my representatives going [to] Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranians,” the president posted on Truth Social Saturday afternoon. “Too much time wasted on traveling, too much work! Besides which, there is tremendous infighting and confusion within their ‘leadership.’

If a violent social revolution were truly to break out, and Piker and Tolentino became its victims, one assumes they’d find crime less fun. Is robbing the Louvre a good idea? Left-wing influencer Hasan Piker and New Yorker writer Jia Tolentino did a much-discussed video interview with the New York Times on the ethics of theft and came out four-square in favor of stealing things, including artwork from the Louvre. They consider larceny an appropriate response to the inherent corruption and injustice of the American capitalist system. The merits of this position aside,

Now that the Southern Poverty Law Center is being exposed, it is important to look back at some of the outrageous claims made by this group in the past. It is absolutely amazing to think that in 2015, they put Dr. Ben Carson on an ‘extremist’ list. Is ‘extremist’ one of the words that comes into your mind when you think of Carson? Perhaps when they targeted one of the most renowned and highly respected pediatric brain surgeons in the entire country in this way, it was a clue that they were not operating in good faith. They were eventually forced to take Carson off the list and then apologized…

President Donald Trump has signed five executive orders that address critical segments of the nation’s energy infrastructure – a move made under the presidential determinations of the Defense Production Act that allows a U.S. president to mobilize industry for purposes of national security. The two-term president has long pushed for energy development and the infrastructure to support it as a key aspect of national security. The orders, signed amid the U.S. war with Iran, seek to address issues with the aging electricity grid, the need for natural gas pipelines, coal supply chains and large-scale electricity —

After Virginia Democrats successfully convinced voters to approve a constitutionally questionable redistricting push to seize more U.S. congressional seats in the state, Florida is now in the spotlight. In the Sunshine State, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is spearheading an effort to redraw the state’s congressional districts before the midterm elections. Earlier this year, he called a special session of the state legislature to consider redrawing the maps. Now, Republicans see it as an opportunity to cancel out the likely gains that Democrats won in Virginia. Following that vote, allies of President Donald Trump have urged Florida to move forward with its plans before the midterm elections.

Tasnim, which has close ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), suggested that the shooting at the Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., as the Correspondents Dinner was commencing, may have been a “big show” intended to bolster President Trump’s approval ratings. The news agency speculated that it could have been staged to improve President Trump’s position ahead of the upcoming mid-term elections or perhaps to “use it against Iran or another country”.
