WASHINGTON – Military planning for a possible Pentagon-led operation in Cuba is quietly ramping up, in case President Donald Trump gives an order to intervene there, USA TODAY has learned.
Two sources familiar with the order spoke to USA TODAY on condition of anonymity because they're not authorized to speak to media.
The directives appear to be an escalation of recent tensions between the United States and Cuba that began in January when the Trump administration curbed oil shipments to Cuba as part of a broader campaign to force sweeping political changes on the communist-run island.

The IRGC and the civilian government in Iran are at loggerheads, with one group ready to make a deal and the other apparently ready to go down in flames and explosions.
There's plenty of evidence that the President and PM want the war in the rear-view mirror, and are ready to compromise on just about anything. The Islamic Republic is showing a MAJOR internal fracture at the highest levels in real time.
After Araghchi and Trump both claimed the Strait of Hormuz is “open,” IRGC-linked Fars News is now openly questioning officials, warning of confusion inside the country, and demanding explanations for the silence.

I'm not sure what the point of having a government in Britain is anymore.
Because it sure isn't there to protect citizens. It seems to exist mainly to redistribute resources from productive people to criminals, illegal aliens, and friends of Labour politicians. Among the most appalling stories, of which there are many, is the r@pe gangs cover-up, in which all levels of government, from the most local all the way up to the national, looked the other way as "asian" males systematically groomed and raped countless British children for decades.
But the problem is not that the powers that be tolerate crime

Despite an all-out corporate media propaganda campaign using a few marginalized podcasters as “proof” there is a growing rift between President Donald Trump and Republican voters, new polling shows the opposite is true.
Some might find this hard to believe, but social media is not real life. To wit…
Between March and April in the far-left Quinnipiac poll, support for Trump among Republicans increased from 72 percent to 81 percent.
Similarly, a poll from the Economist/YouGov shows an increase in Republican support for the president. What had been an 82 percent approve, 14 percent disapproval rating in March has risen by four net points to 84 percent approve, 12 percent disapprove.

President Donald Trump said Friday that Iran “agreed to everything” in negotiations with the United States following a news-packed morning that included the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump made the comments to NewsNation’s Kellie Meyer, who called the president after he announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, declaring that the United States will retrieve enriched uranium from sites bombed in Operation Midnight Hammer last June. Trump said, “Yes,” when Meyer asked if Iran agreed to stop enriching uranium.
“They agreed to everything,” he told her.
When Meyer asked him if he was surprised, he said, “I’m not surprised by anything,” and soon ended the call.

Both the House and Senate voted on Friday to extend the government's spy powers under FISA for 10-days after Republicans struggled to iron out a compromise on reforms.
The House had voted in the dead of night to extend the controversial Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which faced steep opposition from a faction of the Republican conference who wanted reforms to the law, including a warrant requirement.
Speaker Mike Johnson initially attempted to tee up a vote Thursday afternoon on a bill that would extend the federal government's foreign surveillance power for 18 months, a plan supported by the White House. However,

Before he was an accused rapist, Eric Swalwell was a Democratic golden boy who rose to some of the most influential roles in Washington over his 13 year career in Congress.
With the help of Rep. Nancy Pelosi and other powerful allies, Swalwell won key appointments at congressional committees and made a name for himself as a leading Democrat fighting against the Trump administration.
Swalwell now stands accused by five women of sexual misconduct, such as sending nudes and non-consensual touching. Two of them alleged rape, including revelations made Tuesday that Swalwell allegedly drugged and raped a model in a hotel room in 2018.

As Democrats struggle to find popular messages with voters, another case of a Democrat candidate running as a Republican quickly reached the U.S. Supreme Court, which prevented the candidate from being on the ballot. "I'm glad that people are paying attention because this same game may be coming to your state," Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose told Just The News.
The Ohio case is the latest instance of a Democrat parading as a Republican, with recent similar cases in North Carolina and Texas. Samuel Ronan, whose case LaRose referred to as "political transgenderism," attempted to run in a Republican primary for Ohio's 15th Congressional District in the 2026 cycle.

Republicans across the South have been gearing up for what could be the biggest political map shake-up in decades, and it all hinges on one thing: the Supreme Court's expected ruling in Louisiana v. It would be cliché to say that the stakes couldn't For most of the past half-century, Section 2 has required states to draw "majority-minority" districts — districts engineered to elect minority candidates, who happen to vote overwhelmingly Democrat. One of the big problems facing our country right now isn’t a partisan issue. It’s a crime. And America’s seniors are increasingly the targets.
Every day, scammers—often operating through massive, international networks—are stealing the life savings of older Americans who have worked hard, played by the rules, and saved responsibly for retirement. These are not harmless scams or isolated incidents. It’s organized theft on a scale that should concern every American who believes in law and order. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), scammers stole as much as $81.5 billion from seniors in 2024. This is money that people were relying on for retirement —

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, an activist judge on The Utah Third District Court struck down the all-Republican congressional map crafted by the Republican-led state legislature last November, labeling it an unconstitutional “gerrymander” and replacing it with a map drawn by left-wing plaintiffs.
Despite this ridiculous ruling, both the Utah Supreme Court and the federal courts refused to intervene, guaranteeing a Democrat pickup in heavily Republican Utah this year.

In one of the most out-of-touch examples I’ve seen of Democrats in recent weeks, we’ve now got Philadelphia mayor Cherelle Parker yelling at her constituents over a new tax she wants on each and every ride-sharing journey: if enacted, all Uber and Lyft rides would have an additional dollar tacked on (to support the dying city education system), which in a substantial number of instances, wouldn’t be a miniscule tax. Parker wonders “how dare” the citizens and voters question how much she wants to take out of their pockets for others’ expenses:

The advancement vote failed to pass the House (200-220) collapsing the bill, which is not a bad outcome all things considered. House Republican leaders posted a compromise FISA amendment just before 11 p.m., and then called the House members to vote. The Amendment would have extended FISA (702) for five years and did include language that would have strengthened criminal penalties for misuse of the program, and some language that would have required warrants under certain circumstances.

It restarts the engine when either the foot comes off the brake pedal or the accelerator is pressed. Police fatally shot a woman who they said cut a 3-year-old boy in the face during an alleged kidnapping attempt at a Walmart in Omaha, Nebraska, Tuesday morning. Two officers shot the woman, Noemi Guzman, after she cut the boy and refused to drop a knife she had stolen from the store, the police department said in a news release.
Guzman, 31, made multiple threats with the weapon before the officers opened fire, the department said.
The child was taken to the hospital with a large cut across his face and is expected to recover, Omaha Deputy Police Chief Scott

Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Todd Lyons submitted his resignation letter to Homeland Secretary Markwayne Mullin Thursday, writing that he will stay on through May 31 to assist the transition process, Fox News has confirmed. According to a source, Lyons said in his letter he wants to spend more time with his family, including his sons, who are "reaching a pivotal point in their lives," and that it's been a privilege to serve under President Donald Trump.
"Director Lyons has been a great leader of ICE and key player in helping the Trump administration remove murderers, rapists, pedophiles, terrorists and gang members from American communities,"

The Trump administration wants automakers to put the pedal to the metal to help rebuild America’s weapons stockpiles, according to a new report.
As wars in the Middle East and Ukraine have consumed missiles and other weapons, the Trump administration is turning to a tactic from World War II in order to resupply as fast as possible, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Top executives at General Motors and Ford have been approached, the outlet reported, citing sources it did not name. GE Aerospace and machinery producer Oshkosh have also been approached.

Cellular modules manufactured by Chinese companies and embedded in smart home devices represent a significant national security risk to the United States, according to the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
The Hill reports that the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) has released a report warning that two Chinese companies, Quectel and Fibocom, control nearly half of the global market for cellular modules, tiny components that enable smart home devices to connect to cellular networks. This market dominance creates potential espionage and sabotage risks that could have catastrophic consequences for American national security and infrastructure.
The report outlines how these modules are ubiquitous in American life. They are found in common

Another amnesty push is happening on Capitol Hill, yet the sponsors of the DIGNIDAD (Dignity) Act of 2025 are attempting to market it as not an amnesty bill.
“America last” Republicans like Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, R-Fla., the original co-sponsor of the bill and daughter of Cuban immigrants, refuse to recognize what the American people mandated the Trump administration to do—carry out mass deportations.
For starters, the acronym of the bill name is in Spanish, which is not the official language of the U.S. Naming an amnesty bill in a foreign language is a slap in the face to Americans, and a member of Congress legislating on behalf of the illegal

“We’re getting very creative.”
Those could be the words at the top of the résumé or LinkedIn profile for Dr. Alister Martin, New York City’s new health commissioner. Heaven knows, I’ll give him that much. It’s true! He, and others around him in New York state, are indeed getting very creative.
They are getting creative about, basically, how to effectively scam the government out of Medicaid funds by getting around new rules in the most preposterous way possible. As a result of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed by President Donald Trump last year, there were ways to reduce the costs for the government by cutting down on entitlement abuses.

Fairfax County, Virginia, decided students should no longer get Veterans Day as a holiday.
However, Indigenous Peoples’ Day is one “holiday” they’ll gladly keep.
FFX Now reported on Monday that the county school board has arrived at their calendar for the next academic year, which reduced the number of early release days and omitted Veterans Day as a holiday. Both Veterans Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day were up for omission as holidays, but only the former passed.
Ostensibly, the decision came in response to parents’ concerns about disruptions to the school year.

On Thursday’s broadcast of “CBS Mornings,” New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) said that democratic socialism “is a politics that can flourish anywhere” and at first, he “was told that you could only be a Democratic socialist in Northwest Queens. Then I became the Mayor. Now the next question is the state. Then it’ll be — the next question will be the country.”
Co-host Vladimir Duthiers asked, “After your campaign win, there were a lot of questions about whether Democrats across the country could have similar success. Do you think it’s possible a democratic socialist platform can translate into something that’s electorally viable in a statewide election or a national

Democrat Analilia Mejia defeated Republican Joe Hathaway Thursday in the New Jersey special election to replace Gov. Mikie Sherrill in Congress.
Mejia, a former top campaign aide to democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, was projected by the Associated Press to win the race for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District shortly after polls closed at 8 p.m.
With more than half of votes counted, Mejia led Hathaway by a 33 percentage point margin – eclipsing Sherrill’s 15-point victory in the 2024 election. Sherrill also won her current gig by 15 points in last year’s gubernatorial vote.

The same eagle-eyed journalists who were gobsmacked — gobsmacked, I say! — to discover that Joe Biden’s brain was AWOL are now feigning disbelief over the Eric Swalwell sexual assault allegations. Who knew this young, promising, handsome politician, who was elected to Congress in his early 30s and was poised to become California’s next governor, had such a dark side?
Well, apparently everyone: If true, it sets a peculiar timeline: Swalwell joined Congress in 2013. For over a dozen years, he was a powerful member of the political elite. A popular presence on cable TV shows, Swalwell always made time for the mainstream media.

Rep. Eric Swalwell’s sudden political death was no accident, but a strategic hit job by an unethical California Democratic Party and its media enablers. “Swalwell was pushed out for strategic purposes,” says investigative journalist Peter Schweizer.
Call it the law of the jungle. In this case, Swalwell was running strongly in the leadup to California’s June 2 “jungle primary” election for governor, which will eliminate all but the top two vote-getters of either political party who then advance to the November election. With so many Democrat candidates splitting support, Republican Steve Hilton was leading in state polls, so someone had to go.

With the allegations of sexual harassment and assault against now-former Democrat Congressman Eric Swalwell (CA-14) that have been reported over the last week, we've been asking a lot of questions about Swalwell's bestie, Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ).
As RedState reported, the bromance between the two has been well documented, going back to the days when Gallego was also a member of the House of Representatives and the two were roommates. Swalwell, in fact, called Gallego his "best friend in the world" as recently as November, a characterization the first-term senator seemed to cheerfully embrace.

Conservatives were down in the dumps about Viktor Orbán's loss in the parliamentary election in Hungary.
As Beege wrote last night, perhaps that sentiment was a bit premature, based more on the European Union's desire to replace Orbán than any real reason to worry about his successor, Péter Magyar. Magyar, after all, was not some socialist opponent of Orbán, but until recently his right-hand man.
He defected from Orbán over what appear to be legitimate concerns about massive corruption in the Orbán regime, rather than over policy differences with the political platform of Orbán's party, Fidesz.
The European Union may have made noises about corruption in Hungary, but its real gripe
