On Colorado highways, it’s now illegal

In Colorado, the highest posted speed limit is 75 mph. I can live with that, even though I think 85 mph might be better and perhaps just as safe. This speed limit of 75 means that it’s against the law to go faster than that. Trust me on this, I used to be a lawyer. But now, Colorado has announced that if you go the 75-mph speed limit in the left lane, or even if you violate the speed limit by going 85 mph, and people stack up behind you who want to go 95, then you’re violating the law by impeding traffic. And you’ll be ticketed for it.

Regardless of the sped limit, it is both illegal and dangerous to impede the traffic behind you in the 'passing lane' "If proceeding slower than the prevailing traffic, a vehicle must stay in the right-hand lane or as close as practicable to the right, unless overtaking, preparing for a left turn, or similar..." Florida Statute: § 316.081 Driving on Right Side No speed limit mentioned. Violation should be the death penalty..

I like Glenn Beaton, but this time he’s full of it. I drive I-25 between Colorado Springs and Denver every week. Yes, the speed limit is 75 mph, and I routinely drive faster than that. If I’m in the left lane going 80 mph and I see traffic coming up behind me going faster than that, I move over to the right lane and let them by. In Colorado, the law states that you should be in the right lane unless you’re passing. Most of the traffic jams, and a large number of the accidents, could be avoided by obeying this simple rule. I routinely pass people on the right, because they’re going slow in one of the left lanes and so is the car to the left of them. People in the wrong lanes cause crashes.

My pet peeve is tailgaters. No matter what speed you are going, even faster than the speed limit, sometimes they are so close I can't see their headlights. I do not feel safe with them that close. They won't have enough reaction time to safely stop is they are less than one car length behind for every 10 MPH. The thing is, they aren't going to get where they are going any faster by tailgating instead of following at a safe distance. These are all on single lane roads.

Perhaps it would be best if states and Congress returned to a model where holding office was no longer seen as a vanity project in which lawmakers get publicity for thinking up petty ways to subject citizens to their whims. Perhaps we ought yo get back to the founding vision of sending honorable people of talent and esteem to represent their fellows and make American life tolerable and just.

People who have a clear opening to MOVE back to the right lane, and don't, should get a ticket. It is called driving, and you make the pass and then get out of the PASSING lane. You don't sit there and hold up traffic because you think it is smoother, or because you are some sort of self-appointed traffic cop. Unfortunately I have only witnessed one rolling road block get pulled over, and that was because they blocked an unmarked cop car. Should have noticed the spotlight, but that would have required using their mirrors.

Most normals do not drive in the left lane unless they are passing a slower vehicle, so there ought not be any outrage on that issue, especially since Colorado has plenty of other outrage-inducing state laws. Within the jurisdiction I first worked as a motorcycle cop in the early '80s, we had a main thoroughfare that had a posted minimum speed limit of 35. When I took the Assessment Center exam for an open Lieutenant position, there was a real-world question on the exam that noted a driver was going 30mph on a road with the top speed of 55. The driver wound up being arrested and the minimum speed limit violation, which most participants had never bothered to learn about, was cited as probable cause for stopping the vehicle and finding out the driver had warrants out for his arrest, as well as illegal contraband within plain view and much more illegal contraband stuffed into the trunk of the offender's vehicle. The vast majority of the assessment center participants, few having ever been street cops, agreed with the defendant's position that the traffic stop was not legal because they failed to acknowledge that the specific road upon which the arrest occurred had a lawful (in Texas) minimum speed posted. Plus, many failed to notice that the lawful "search incident to arrest" and vehicle impoundment, gave the arresting officer the legal right to search the entire vehicle, not just the area of the vehicle under the driver's immediate control, (e.g., the center console, ash tray and area under the driver's floor mat. All of the officers who failed the exam became democrats, as they were always looking out for progressive reasons to not arrest somebody. I had been the original arresting officer on the exam question but I kept that quiet until the results were posted.

When there's only 2 lanes the right lane can be all pot holes and such from the heavy trucks so if no one is around I might be in the left lane until I see others. When speeding, its always good when someone passes you because they will be the ones ticketed so I gladly pull to right and let them pass.

OK, I went and looked at the law. It states that drivers must keep right unless they are passing another vehicle or making a left turn (there are exceptions for when signs instruct drivers to keep left for other reasons...such as construction). That is a perfectly reasonable law. Many states have such laws.

According to AI 29 states require cars to move out of the left lane if they are impeding traffic even if they are adhering to the posted speed limit. Another 11 states reserve the left lane for passing slower vehicles. Alaska, Maryland, North Carolina and South Dakota do not require drivers to move out of the left lane if they are adhering to the speed limit.

When one of my daughters was 12, it was time to teach her the facts of life. I took her out on the front porch to teach her how to smoke a cigar. I didn’t intend to teach the girl any other facts of life, of course. As a dad, that wasn’t my job. Like all cigar smokers, and especially the occasional kind, I treasured this big ritual. You light the cigar in a certain way, which isn’t as hard as they pretend – the thing is designed to burn, you know. Then you keep it lit, which isn’t hard, either – it’s not like keeping smoked salmon lit.

Mothers and fathers die. For the population to remain constant, the two of them need to produce about 2.1 children on average in order to replace themselves. (The extra 0.1 is necessary to offset the deaths of children who never reach reproductive age.) This figure is called the “fertility rate.” Recent data shows that the fertility rate in the United States is nowhere near that 2.1 figure. It has instead dropped to an all-time low of about 1.6. American woman on average give birth to only 1.6 children.

Take out one Iranian power plant per day 15 replies

Power plants are legitimate targets in war. They’re “dual purpose” infrastructure in that they serve a civilian purpose but also a military one. (The same was true of the large bridge in Tehran that we took out last week.) That’s one reason that terrorists like Hamas position their military commands in hospitals, not power plants. It is recognized that hospitals are not legitimate targets (unless a military use is made of them) while power plants are. America is therefore justified in disabling Iran’s power plants, as President Trump has threatened to do. It will be much tougher for Iran to launch drones and missiles without electric power.

Given Iran’s half century of cruel barbarism in the Middle East, it’s hard to understand why the Democrats seem to be rooting for them in the current war. I have two theories. One is the obvious one. The Dems are not so much rooting for Iran, as rooting against Iran’s enemy. Bad as Iran is, its enemy is even worse in the eyes of the Dems. Iran’s enemy, you see – or at least the Dems see – has a history of its own cruel barbarism going back to at least 1619. Iran’s enemy has engaged in genocide against native people. Iran’s enemy has wrongly oppressed workers of the world

Electric vehicles are probably the vehicle of the future, but they are not the vehicle of the present. Let’s look at the numbers. An EV uses about six cents of electricity to go a mile. That’s if you charge it at home with inexpensive residential electricity rates. It’s more if you use a charging station, and it’s more if it’s a large vehicle like a Rivian. And by the way, be prepared to leave it plugged in for several hours to get it charged. Gasoline-powered cars use about thirteen cents of gasoline to go a mile, assuming gas is something over $3/gallon and you get something like 25 mpg.

The argument against the war with Iran boils down to two points. The first point is that this war was initiated by the hated President Trump, and so it should be opposed. That point cannot be rebutted because it is not a point at all; it’s simply a reactionary expression of hate by people who scarcely bother to conceal their hope that Iran wins. So, let’s move on to the second point. The second point is that we were able to handle Iran’s aggression for many years without going to war, and so we could have continued to handle its aggression for many more years without going to war.

Shreveport Police Corporal Chris Bordelon told reporters officers were first dispatched just after 6 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of West 79th Street, where they located the initial scene. As officers canvassed the area, they discovered additional connected locations, including one on Harrison Street, all tied to the same domestic disturbance. Police said at least 10 people were struck by gunfire, with eight pronounced dead at the scene or shortly afterward.

Despite the best efforts of those who would utilize the preposterous climate change scare to control us and depopulate the world, petroleum still rules world economies. About 80% of all world energy is petro based -- it fuels industrial and agricultural production along with transportation. Constricting supplies causes all prices to rise -- the inflationary effects are well-known (except perhaps to the bright thinkers promoting net zero policies which are tanking their economies and immiserating their citizens). For this reason, foreign policy strategists, media pundits, and governments who listened to them for decades avoided attacking Iran, fearing worldwide disruption of a critical supply.
