President Trump late Thursday evening announced all trade negotiations with Canada have been terminated after the government of Ontario, Canada, created an ad campaign using selective audio of President Reagan speaking negatively about tariffs.
Trump accused the government of Ontario of interfering with the Supreme Court’s decision on his tariffs. The high court is set to hear oral arguments on November 5 on Trump’s tariffs after a lower court ruled they were illegal.
“The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs,” Trump said.

Give the Canadian socialist goobernment credit. At least they avoided violence (unlike the DeMS-13 in the US). Had the used violence instead of using the 60 Minutes formula of deceptive editing, Trump could name the Canadian goobernment a terrorist organization.

Canada has been riding our economic coattails for decades. They are not in a position to rock that boat. I don’t know what they were thinking but they made a huge mistake. Not only have they created a fraudulent ad but they have illegally used the Reagan radio address. Did they think Trump would let this pass? They’re fools.

Carney is socialist like the CCP and EU. The U.S. is never going to get anywhere with Canada, until Canada gets rid of Carney.

This campaign was probably concocted by Carney, with an assist from Doug Ford. Carney is a known plagiarizer, having lifted sections of published books and dropping them into his doctoral thesis, where they henceforth became known in academic circles as "brilliant insights" by a young man who was destined to be a great economist. So it shouldn't surprise anyone that he would attempt to usurp the words of The Gipper as fodder in trade negotiations.

BTW, everything The Gipper said was true.... then and now. Problem is, The Gipper was attempting to lead the world in free trade by example, while the historical record now shows that the rest of the world took advantage of our markets and practiced mercantilism. Very few countries joined Reagan. Thatcher's UK did; today's UK is a basket-case. Kohl's West Germany did, too, but only as a coincidence as the German trade policy was reciprocity. Japan had massive and Byzantine non-tariff trade barriers, and they still do today.

You do not disparage America without taking the risk of trade retribution. Or worse.

Canada has a lot of nerve running that ad in this country when all Trump is doing is trying to protect American companies and products. I do not understand how smart people like Stephen Moore (economist), et al complain about Trump's tariffs when the tariffs placed on American goods imported into their countries hurts the USA? How the heck is that "free" or "fair" trade? I'm not an economist and didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night but even I know the difference.

I've heard the ad on FNC a bunch of times .... and yes, using Reagan to sell Canada's trade policy is worth Trump's response.

When I saw that ad, I was really irritated. Did they really think, President Trump would just let that pass? It was dishonest and insulting!

Luckily, I haven’t seen the ad. Did Candy think PDJT 2.0 was going to roll over and play dead? Not many previous Presidents wouldn’t have but PDJT 2.0 is looking out for us, the American people.
Tariffs on me, but not on me is neither free nor fair trade.

If tariare so bad Canada, why do you impose them on good imported from the United States? Your ad implies that that US putting tariffs on Canadian goods is somehow bad but your tariffs on our goods are OK. A bit hypocritical I'd say.

I started seeing the ad last week. It is very irritating at best, and my husband yells at the TV that the ad is deceptive as Reagan was for free trade. When the ad comes on I turn to another station. The Regan Foundation needs to sue the basturds, now.

Candidate Reagan was anti-deficit and pro free trade. That President Reagan did not always adhere to those positions while in office is due to a combination of Cold War priorities and practical politics. He chose a robust U.S. defense buildup over deficit reduction because it was the right and responsible thing to do, and because the Democrat Congress he had to deal with was neither of those things.
Likewise, he supported tariffs on foreign motorcycles to give Harley Davidson a chance to get its house in order. They subsequently did just that, and HD asked for the tariffs to be removed because they no longer needed them to survive.
However, it is fair to say President Reagan was ideologically in favor of smaller government, lower taxes, and freer trade. President Reagan also supported and signed the Canada–United States Free Trade Agreement (CUSFTA), which was a pre-cursor of NAFTA.

Since Reagan only appears for seconds at the end of the ad, I wonder if they use AI to generate the dialogue simulating Reagan’s voice. In other words, how much of it was fake.

I was explaining to my sister about what an incompetent Mark Carney was. She wanted a comparison.
I said Gavin Newsom was clearly a stupid person and Kamala Harris was an idiot.
I'd put Mark Carney in between the two - a moron.
Then she asked me about Doug Ford after he showed up with his "Reagan" ad.
I said I'd put him in between Mark Carney and Kamala Harris - a cretin.
No matter the words, but anytime you're in the same list with Gavin Newsom, and he's at the top, you're out of luck.

Canada thinks that politicizing the World Series with hypocritical advertising is a good idea. Let's see how well that works out for them. PDJT just kicked them in the kiester, with more to come. FAFO.
