President Donald Trump has authorised the deployment of 300 National Guard troops to Chicago to address what he says is out-of-control crime.
The move came hours after immigration authorities said they faced off with protesters in the Democrat-run city and shot an armed woman when she and others rammed their cars into law enforcement vehicles.
State and local leaders have for weeks criticised Trump's deployment plans and called it an abuse of power. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker said Trump was "attempting to manufacture a crisis".
The announcement came as a federal judge in Portland, Oregon - another liberal city - temporarily blocked the Trump administration from deploying 200 troops there.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have reportedly come under fire in Broadview, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, from a woman identified only as a “U.S. citizen.” This comes after Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have spent weeks ratcheting up the hysteria and purveying incendiary rhetoric about how President Donald Trump is a fascist and ICE agents are his storm troopers. Once again, the left’s rhetoric spills over into violence.[snip] “federal agents were rammed and boxed in by 10 cars in Broadview, Ill., where anti-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) crowds have been gathering for days.”

Harrison, a political appointee of President Trump, was reportedly fired by Hegseth after he helped implement sweeping changes to the Navy’s policy and budgeting offices, according to Politico.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran executed six death-row inmates Saturday it alleged carried out attacks in the country’s oil-rich southwest on behalf of Israel, the latest prisoners to be put to death in a wave of executions believed to be the highest in decades.
The executions follow the 12-day Iran-Israel war in June, which ended with Tehran vowing it would target its enemies at home and abroad. However, activists warn Iran often relies on coerced confessions and closed-door trials in its death penalty cases, particularly those involving Israel.

Earlier today, PJ Media reported that Portland police arrested independent journalist Nick Sortor outside an ICE facility. Sortor was reportedly joking with officers when he was suddenly handcuffed and taken into custody. Sortor has now been released and has spoken publicly about the incident, offering his firsthand account of what happened. Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin reported Friday afternoon on Sortor’s arrest, saying that he had spoken to Sortor just minutes after his release from jail.
Melugin explained that Sortor told him he had been filming protesters the night before when federal agents hit them with mace. According to Sortor, the protesters didn’t appreciate his recording them in that vulnerable moment.

Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has proposed New York City tax increases of $9 billion to pay for free childcare for children under the age of 6, free bus fare for all, and opening city-owned and run grocery stores. His tax increases would raise the top New York City personal income tax rate by a little over 5 percent and the top New York City corporate income tax rate by around 45 percent. If NYC implements the Mamdani-proposed tax increases, a wealthy NYC resident would face a total federal, state and city tax burden of a whopping 53.836 percent.

A while back, I argued that we need to make Republicans afraid again. Afraid for their jobs.
In light of recent events, that's probably not the best wording possible, but the sentiment still holds. There aren't really many pro-gun Democrats holding office these days, so we have to count on Republicans exclusively to hold the line.
That's less than ideal because, like any other political party, almost no one is in complete lockstep with their party on every single issue. For some of them, they're open to at least some gun control.

The heart of the European industrial economy is Germany, and there’s major trouble afoot within the largest industrial sector within Germany.
Following the “Build Back Better” agenda, the EU went all in for green energy proposals. EU banking and finance followed suit, funding investment capital for electric vehicles (EVs) to replace combustion engines. Unfortunately, this put the EU, specifically Germany, in the position of competing against the largest EV industrial base in the world, China
The second major flaw was capital only flowing to the EV sector, and Europeans -along with the majority of the industrial west- are just not buying EVs at a production capacity to match prior investment.

By now, you are likely familiar with the story of Jay Jones, the terrible, horrible, no-good, very-bad candidate for Attorney General of Virginia.
Beege wrote about the emerging scandal yesterday, and chances are good that there will be enough twists and turns to the story that you will read quite a bit more about it over the next few days or weeks. For those unfamiliar with the breaking story, the short version is this: Virginia Delegate Jay Jones is running for Attorney General in Virginia and has a comfortable (if hopefully temporary) lead in the race against incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares this November.

Last week, I wrote about the left’s playbook of projection and deflection, wherein they ascribe their own sins unto their victims. This week, let us examine how the left tries to advance its radical agenda by redefining words and standards. Today’s case study: free speech.
While the First Amendment of the United States Constitution recognizes and protects the God-given right to free speech, there has always been a reasonable, popular consensus that there exists material not suitable for young, impressionable children and that, alternatively, for adult consumption, cannot be banned. The left is endeavoring to rend this consensus.

Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer says that there’s only one party that wants to shut the government down. He’s right: it’s only Democrats who won’t allow the Senate a few more weeks at current spending levels to agree on a new budget.
The shutdown highlights three weaknesses undermining the Democrat Party as we head toward next year’s midterm elections. First, the left wing of the party is running the show. Schumer is terrified of being primaried by New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC); his obstinance is a matter of survival, not conscience.

Dr. Thomas Sowell famously and rightly remarked when people get used to preferential treatment, equal treatment seems like discrimination. The counter-programming from secretary of War Pete Hegseth during his September 30 Quantico speech to top military brass doubtless received a frosty reception from at least some of the high-ranking commissioned officers who had grown accustomed to preferential treatment.
Consider the psychological mindset of a DIE-privileged general, perhaps someone like Hegseth’s predecessor (the race- and climate-obsessed Gen. Lloyd Austin) or Gen. C.Q. Nicholas Roske, the man who pleaded guilty to attempting to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, has been sentenced to 97 months in prison, a fraction of the 30 years the Justice Department was seeking.
Roske, who now identifies as a transgender woman and goes by the name “Sophie,” was arrested outside Kavanaugh’s home in June 2022 carrying a pistol and burglary tools. He pled guilty in April to attempting to assassinate Kavanaugh.
Judge Deborah Boardman, a Biden appointee, threw out most of the terrorism enhancement that would have resulted in a harsher sentence, opting to hand Roske a sentence of just over eight years, the length of time Roske’s attorneys requested.
