Hochu v. Mamdani: The Upcoming War Over
NYC Tax Increases

Original Article

Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani has proposed New York City tax increases of $9 billion to pay for free childcare for children under the age of 6, free bus fare for all, and opening city-owned and run grocery stores. His tax increases would raise the top New York City personal income tax rate by a little over 5 percent and the top New York City corporate income tax rate by around 45 percent. If NYC implements the Mamdani-proposed tax increases, a wealthy NYC resident would face a total federal, state and city tax burden of a whopping 53.836 percent.

Go for it! You ignorant, history know-nothings - show us how it's done! Because apparently, propagandized, gaslit, brainwashed plebs need constant in-their-face reminders of where "Utopia" _always_ ends up.

I agree #1! Since the argument for Dim failure is generally that they didn't go all in on their philosophies, go all Man/Dame-y! Show us how the marxists/communists would organize things! As #3 said, I'm far away and feel like the fan won't spray the Dim Dung all the way to Texas.

53.8% Tax on wealthy NY citizens!!!! One has to bear in mind that most of those wealthy people can just turn the key and walk away with minimum loss. The US is about to witness true Socialism/Communism on a grand scale. Right here in River City, as the song goes. I agree with another poster, those city run grocery stores will be a hoot to watch operate after food suppliers get a good look at their P/:L line. Yup, rice and beans, get used to it voters. My heart goes out to those who will vote against him but still have to bear the results of his administration because they can't afford to leave.

Wonder how many of those Mandami tax increases need Legislative approval and Dopey Hochul's signature. I'm sure she'll be very, very happy to sign those all in a year SHE'S up for election. Remind me to get my popcorn order in for that one, too.

Once again, I am reminded of the following quote: "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard." H. L. Mencken I agree wholeheartedly with #7's statement: "My heart goes out to those who will vote against him but still have to bear the results of his administration because they can't afford to leave."

I'm far from an expert statistician, but I've learned a few things over the years about how people use and abuse statistics in order to make their political point. There are a lot of ways you can make a mild thing look absolutely horrific, all by presenting the statistics a certain way. In the Second Amendment debate, we see this a lot. And, well, we're going to see it again, this time as domestic violence prevention advocates try to misrepresent the statistics to push for gun control. So, they're citing Everytown--a gun control organization that has a well-documented history of shady research--

The individual who pleaded guilty to attempting to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh at his home in 2022 will be sentenced Friday. Federal prosecutors are seeking up to life imprisonment as the defendant, Sophie Roske, pushes for just eight years. U.S. District Judge Deborah Boardman will weigh the case’s disturbing evidence and concerns from Roske, who recently told the court she is transgender, about receiving care in prison under Trump administration policies. Kavanaugh’s attempted assassination came as the court was preparing to overturn constitutional abortion rights, and it has become one of the highest-profile prosecutions in a rising trend of violence and threats against judges.

Apple has removed ICEBlock, which allows users to track and report the location of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, from its App Store. “We created the App Store to be a safe and trusted place to discover apps,” Apple said in a statement to NewsNation, The Hill’s sister company. “Based on information we’ve received from law enforcement about the safety risks associated with ICEBlock, we have removed it and similar apps from the App Store.” The app, created in April, allows users to track where ICE officers are and pin their locations. Those within a five-mile radius of the pinned officers would receive a notification.

The Trump administration has informed Congress that the United States armed forces are engaged in hostilities against drug cartels and have killed operatives the president has unilaterally determined are “enemy combatants” because they are allegedly shipping quantities of illegal narcotics that kill Americans. The notice was conveyed to Congress this week in a report that is required by statute — Section 1543a of federal war and national defense law (Title 50, U.S. Code) -- when American military forces engage in hostilities. Although the law mandates notice within 48 hours of the engagement, the three reported U.S. missile attacks on seacraft began ...

Bad news for Big Apple families: Mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani says he’ll phase out gifted and talented programs in city schools; he’s doubling down on his vows to ensure New York’s kids don’t have the same educational opportunities his privileged background allowed him. He says he’ll start by scrapping G&T classes in Kindergarten, but then move along in higher grades, following the plan Mayor Bill de Blasio outlined on his way out of office. Eric Adams rightly reversed that, instead moving to expand G&T: Does Mamdani really have to crush every seed Adams planted?

Roughly 45,000 gallons of radioactive water from a defunct plant north of New York City will be discharged into the Hudson River after a federal court ruling struck down a state environmental law. US District Judge Kenneth Karas sided with company Holtec International over New York State in a ruling issued last week that reversed the 2023 “Save The Hudson” law which sought to prevent the company from muddying the Hudson’s waters. Holtec sued the Empire State last year, arguing that only the federal government had the right to regulate discharge of the Indian Point plant’s nuclear waste, which amounted to the 45,000-gallon sum, The New York Times reported.

Shocking video from Thursday’s deadly knife attack at a UK synagogue shows a cop frantically yelling at horrified onlookers to “go away” because the deranged suspect “has a bomb.” Two people were killed after a man rammed his car into a crowd outside the Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester before stabbing multiple worshippers who were marking Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in Judaism. In one video from the terrifying incident, a police officer is seen saying, “Everybody else, if you’re not involved, move back. Get away, somebody stay with the casualties. At least two people were killed and five others injured Thursday when a knife-wielding madman plowed a car into pedestrians and stabbed a security guard outside a UK synagogue on Yom Kippur — the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. The savage attack unfolded outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester just after 9:30 a.m. as scores of people were worshipping inside, police said. Cops descended on the scene after a witness reported seeing a car crashing into members of the public before a man was stabbed and left lying in a pool of blood outside the synagogue.

When they are in power, Democrats love to make up the rules as they go along. But when Republicans take over and decide to play the game by the rules Democrats made up, well, that's a problem. Former President Barack Obama was fond of chiding Republicans with a condescending "elections have consequences" reminder. Recently, Republicans on both the national and state levels have not been so subtle about returning that same rebuke in the form of an old Democrat "strategy": mid-decade redistricting, or gerrymandering, before the 2026 midterm election. Democrats are not happy, and the epicenter of their unhappiness is California.

Senate Democrats blocked a bipartisan stopgap funding bill on Friday, leaving the shutdown to drag into next week after only three crossed the aisle in support. Kennedy accused Democrats of holding the government hostage to restore what he described as millions in wasteful foreign projects and said lawmakers had already stripped the provisions from the budget, only to see the party’s left flank threaten to keep the shutdown going unless the money is put back in.
