What is it with these transvestite shooters, writing on their ammunition? At least this fruitcake had the decency to assume room temperature so we don’t have to convict him and waste money locking him up. And by the way, NR, an “unspent shell casing” is called “ammunition”…

The 'packet' of five cartridges is in what is known as a "stripper clip". It is used in late 19th century and early 20th century Mauser and Springfield type rifles to 'strip' five rounds into the fixed five shot magazine in a bolt action Mauser or Springfield rifle. Literally hundreds of millions of these type rifles were made for WW1 and WW2. Many tens of millions of them were sold in the USA from the 1930s to the 1990s as surplus. Many were used as inexpensive hunting rifles, or home defense rifles. They are manually operated, bolt action rifles, which are pretty darned powerful. The original military guns all had 'iron sights', not scopes, although there was a brisk business with gunsmiths adding scopes to convert them to hunting rifles in the 1950s thru 1970s. Those strippers can be used, with an adapter to load cartridges into magazines for the M14 semi-auto rifle and the AR15 semi-auto rifle. Those cartridges pictured appear to be 7.62 NATO caliber, or possible 8mm Mauser. The two cartridges look very much alike. 8mm Mauser was a very, very common cartridge in the WW1 and WW2 Mauser rifles. Millions sold surplus in the USA.

The man who orchestrated a “targeted attack” on a Dallas, Texas, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement facility this week searched for apps that track ICE activity, and sought to cause “real terror” among agents, the FBI revealed. Joshua Jahn, 29, is suspected of shooting at an unmarked transport van driven by an ATF agent on Wednesday, killing one detainee and injuring two others. Jahn took his own life after the attack. Next to his body, authorities found shell casings with anti-ICE messages engraved on them. Authorities have described the shooting as “an attack on ICE law enforcement,” a description bolstered by new evidence

As you may remember, Peter Strzok was part of the Mueller investigation until texts between himself and fellow agent Lisa Page were released. Those texts indicated a clear dislike for President Trump that preexisted his involvement in the investigation. Mr. Strzok was reassigned this summer from Mr. Mueller’s investigation to the F.B.I.’s human resources department, where he has been stationed since. The people briefed on the case said the transfer followed the discovery of text messages in which Mr. Strzok and a colleague reacted to news events, like presidential debates, in ways that could appear critical of Mr. Trump.

We have been following the cases that address the president’s control over the executive branch under Article II of the Constitution. By statute, Congress has tried to limit the president’s powers, most notably by establishing “independent” agencies that are not fully under the president’s control. The constitutionality of such agencies has always been doubtful, but in Humphrey’s Executor v. United States, 295 U. S. 602 (1935), the Court upheld the law that said the president can remove a commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission only for cause.
