Google said it’s working to fix a bizarre glitch that has rattled users of the tech giant’s much-hyped Gemini chatbot — after it spit out self-loathing messages while struggling to answer questions. X user @DuncanHaldane first flagged a disturbing conversation with Gemini back in June – including one case where it declared “I quit” and moaned that it was unable to figure out a request. “I am clearly not capable of solving this problem. The code is cursed, the test is cursed, and I am a fool,” Gemini said. itself, and I’m started to get concerned about AI welfare.”

Comments:

Not a politically earthshaking item but I've been fighting my Android phone since Google pushed Gemini into it. My problems are different and I thought I was alone but I googled 'Gemini issues' and I found I'm not. I'm considering an i-phone now. Maybe helpful

Sounds like the close cousin to Marvin the paranoid android in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I find this amusing, certainly not "rattling". To the OP, I've had androids but found them glitchy and annoying and unintuitive. When you try the iPhone give it a fair chance. It has different ways of doing things that my android friends have found awkward at first but half stayed with it.

Ha ha ha ha ha--Hilarious! But, dang! I wish I could get that kind of a response. I can think of a thousands ways to mess with a suicidal AI. I foresee a new career field on the horizon--AI therapist. OP: You don't HAVE to use Android's AI--just ignore it. In my opinion, that's a much better option than switching to the highly unintuitive (and stupidly arranged) iPhone.

#2: Gemini is a new addition that supersedes whatever it had. Never a problem in the years I've had Androids. Started with a new update a few weeks back. Other's mileage may vary. Thanks.

If this "Glitch" is in response to adjustments made due manufactured "evidence" in legal briefs, some AIs have been guilty of, in the recent past, I think this is a brilliant feature! I went to college with a fellow student who had one of the early desk top home computers. The main drive was a floppy disc! He had programmed it to curse and insult him if he entered bad code!! Hilarious!

All I can think of is 'The Terminator' movie when the Schwarzenegger bot came back from the future to attack us in the present. There was another movie whose name I can't recall that has robots taking over the world and, of course, "I can't do that, Dave" from '2,001'.

‘Cry More, Lib’: Ken Paxton Dunks

On Friday, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton scored a quick victory after he asked a court to put a hold on Beto O'Rourke and his group, Powered by People, from funding or fundraising for the runaway Texas Democrats. Tarrant County District Judge Megan Fahey handed down a temporary restraining order within hours. Paxton's move was part of an effort to force the Texas House Democrats to return after they fled the state to break the quorum so that a redistricting plan that could help Republicans would not pass. That caused Beto O'Rourke to pitch a hissy fit on X.

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey is the latest Democrat to performatively threaten retaliatory redistricting, despite her state’s congressional delegation consisting of zero Republicans to remove. Healey joined leftwing Democrat Govs. Gavin Newsom (CA), JB Pritzker (IL), Kathy Hochul (NY), and others in protesting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) call for a special legislative session in June, to consider issues including a rare mid-decade redistricting. Abbott, with President Donald Trump’s encouragement, insists that deep-red Texas’s congressional maps allow Democrats outsized representation.

She’s ready to deliver haymakers—the problem is that her trainer is trash. The Atlantic did a lengthy profile piece on the Democratic congresswoman, some of which is run-of-the-mill Americana: she was educated privately, reportedly subjected to racism in college, got interested in the law because of those incidents, and went about building her profile by defending Black Lives Matter defendants. She had a brief stint in the Texas legislature before sharking her way up to Congress.

Controversy erupted over the Democrats’ disgraceful history of gerrymandering. Israel announced its intention to complete the pacification of Gaza. The Trump administration revoked the ridiculous CO2 endangerment finding. And more. But the nation’s meme-creators mostly focused their attention elsewhere. President Trump took a walk on a sloped roof. South Park viciously parodied Trump, JD Vance and Kristi Noem. The now indisputably-Republican Sydney Sweeney remained a popular meme subject. And, above all, persons mostly unknown debuted a new sports tradition: throwing green d*ldos on to the court at WNBA games.
