The Glamor of Evil

“War is hell,” as William Tecumseh Sherman famously observed, but it is also theater. War is a staple of movies, literature, and religion due to its ability to encapsulate universal themes of good versus evil, courage, sacrifice, and the human condition. It is ubiquitous in human history. Who has not heard of the War in Heaven? War features in the Iliad, the Koran, the Bhagavad Gita, not to mention Shakespeare, War and Peace, The Lord of the Rings, and countless movies and drama serials. It’s definitely theater: ironically it's the history of our lives. Not surprisingly warfare itself employs dramatic devices. One of the oldest is performative cruelty.

Another fine Fernandez piece, but a rather abrupt ending.

This is a rather moving piece by Fernandez. My dad used to talk about how psyops were used by warring sides in WWII to demoralize their adversaries. Stalin and Hitler were good at it. The piece most definitely describes how war is fought with respect to the psyops even today. But his piece just stops and doesn't pull it together at the end. Fernandez could even write a Part 2 article and write about how our own federal government, our deep state, and our msm all use the same tactic to gin up fear amongst Americans and control what we think about and when. Criminal AI comes to mind, too.

Just an observation: Politics is warfare by different means. After reading the article, many of the tactics employed in warfare are employed in politics, just less bloody. Usually. For example. Virtue signaling and political correctness. That worked until both became punch lines. Taking the moral highground works, so long as your hypocrisy remains hidden. All of it intended to intimidate or shame your opponent.

Very interesting. Sometimes but not always, the cruel perpetrators meet a fitting end. Adolph Hitler, Mussolini, Sadaam Hussein, all died in a not so honorable way after abusing thousands.

FTA: "No one feels sorry for the USA but many feel sorry for those who lost to it, no matter their guilt. Nazi Germany killed about 20 million civilians in Eastern Europe and Japan about 18 million in China, but people remember the 150,000 civilians killed by the US in Germany and the 600,000 in Japan. The sympathy that was formerly Israel's is withheld from it by a change in circumstances, not necessarily because it is wrong but because it is strong." The Japanese Army murdered millions of Chinese civilians. During the "Rape of Nanking" they raped and murdered hundreds of thousands, often using live humans as targets for bayonet practice, and chopping heads off with samauri swords for fun. I never give any credence to the fools who know no history who complain about us using the nuclear weapons on Japan. We saved probably 100-200,000 American soldiers' lives and maybe a million or two Japanese lives, in addition to the Japanese of that time being guilty of the horrific war crimes all over their area of control Bataan Death March, the Burma Prisons, Chinese mass murders, Korean women into sex slavery, and much more. Nope, dropping the nukes was a good move. Whiners are idiots.

Will new DOGE AI break Deep State power? 1 reply

The Deep State is a budget-busting, bureaucratic tyranny, crushing capitalist meritocracy and social values. It is a self-directed, out-of-control monster that fights MAGA tooth and claw. However, the brilliant computer “nerds” of Elon Musk’s Department Of Governmental Efficiency are already using the first version of their Artificial Intelligence software tool. It may eventually curb the Deep State as much as possible. From an article at The Washington Post: DOGE builds AI tool to cut 50 percent of federal regulations The tool, called the ‘DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool,’ is supposed to analyze roughly 200,000 federal regulations to determine which can be eliminated because they are no longer required by law,

This show must not go on. It’s time, right now, for greater Los Angeles to halt all preparations to host the 2028 Summer Olympics. Let’s turn over these Games to a world city better positioned to host them. Not because Angelenos don’t love the Olympics. We are a proud Olympic city, shaped by the 1932 and 1984 Games. In normal times, the city’s incomparable international connections, entertainment assets and sports facilities would make us the perfect host for what LA 28 chair Casey Wasserman calls “the largest peacetime gathering in the history of the world.” But it’s no longer peacetime in Los Angeles. This event is now too dangerous for California.

Some in the industry were shocked and upset. Matson, after all, has never had a ship sink as a result of an EV fire. What are they worried about? But there have been three especially severe EV fires on cargo ships in just the past three years: the Felicity Ace in 2022, the Fremantle Highway in 2023, and most recently, the Morning Midas in 2025, each fire destroying thousands of vehicles each along with much or all of the vessels.

The biggest news of the week was the release of multiple memos and emails relating to the Russia collusion hoax, and the DNI’s referral of such materials to the Attorney General for possible criminal prosecution. It remains to be seen how that will turn out, but in the meantime it doesn’t seem to have generated a lot of memes. Hunter Biden staked his claim to be the voice of the Democratic Party, and, as a profane, delusional crackhead, his claim is a strong one. And the Jumbotron seen ’round the world continued to resonate. But the story that gave this Week In Pictures its theme was CBS’s announcement that,

Colbert and his allies in the Pravda Media/entertainment complex--along with Democrats--are insisting that the former funnyman was fired at the behest of President Trump. The accusation is absurd. You can't lose tens of millions of dollars a year and expect to keep your $15 million a year job. The math doesn't work. But, as we know, propaganda works with people who want to believe it. All you need is an authoritative voice to say the most absurd things, and people inclined to believe it, will. Even many who do not start out believing it come to do so, based on the "when there is smoke, there's fire principle.

The press briefing at the James Brady room of the White House Wednesday was a real banger. Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, methodically walked through the House Majority Intelligence Report on the shenanigans we all had speculated about for the past eight-plus years and privately knew deep down. Gabbard had the receipts, and it wasn't pretty. For a little over ten minutes after Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt turned over the podium to the DNI, Gabbard detailed involvement of former President Barack Obama, disturbing information about the health, or lack thereof, of former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton,

Now that investigations into the autopen presidency are underway, left-leaning media and Democratic politicians are finally confronted with the truth that was right in front of our faces for years: Joe Biden was not running the country, and America was being led by an unelected, unaccountable polit-bureau. Every week we learn more that makes the long national nightmare we endured even worse. Now, thanks to the New York Times, of all places, we learn that Joe Biden couldn’t even manage the task of signing his own name on pardons of violent and dangerous criminals, and at best, only knew of categories of those being pardoned. The Democrat party’s caterwauling over illegal alien roundups becomes only more shrill by the day. Last week, California politicians were very upset that federal agents had the temerity to disrupt the workings of a marijuana farm exploiting children for its labor. It’s always a bit jarring to see what card-carrying members of the Democrats’ premier virtue-signaling club will find worthy of their righteous indignation. Many rational observers couldn’t have guessed that Democrats would pull out all the stops to shill for “child slavery.” Of course, there was also a time when rational observers could never have guessed that Democrats would

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s anticorruption policies have already provoked Ukraine’s first antigovernment protests since the Russian invasion in 2022. Now, it seems, they may cost the country a portion of its foreign aid from the European Union, in a clear rebuke from the bloc, once a staunch ally. The European Union said on Friday that it would withhold 1.5 billion euros, or $1.7 billion, from an overall fund of 4.5 billion euros whose disbursement is dependent on achieving good governance standards and that can’t be used for military purchases. James Wasserstrom, an American anticorruption expert, said in an interview that “the luster is definitely coming off” Mr. Zelensky’s wartime leadership

How quickly things change.
