ATLANTA — President Donald Trump and other Republicans have long criticized states that take weeks to count their ballots after Election Day. This year has seen a flurry of activity to address it. Part of Trump’s executive order on elections, signed in March but held up by lawsuits, takes aim at one of the main reasons for late vote counts: Many states allow mailed ballots to be counted even if they arrive after Election Day. The U.S. Supreme Court last month said it would consider whether a challenge in Illinois can proceed in a case that is among several Republican-backed

Comments:

Another case where the media pretends not to notice what is happening. Ballots keep trickling in until the Democrat magically pulls ahead - sometimes 3 weeks after election day.

All right, dammit - it’s time to go back to the old days. Everybody votes IN PERSON on election day. Oh, you didn’t register in time? Tough. No voter ID? You shoulda thought of that three months ago. The only mail-in ballots allowed should be absentee ballots sent to military personnel or those with identifiable physical disabilities. Oh, you didn’t mail your absentee ballots in time? Tough. Voting may be a right, but with that right comes responsibilities. If you’re not responsible enough to make sure your vote is counted, it shouldn’t.

I used to work in a hiring unit for a state government agency. Every single day I received applications that had been mailed but which had absolutely no postmark. None at all. How can election officials know that a ballot was postmarked prior to the election? They can't, because at least 1/4 of all mail is never postmarked.

Good to hear the GOP is trying to fight the institutionalized disenfranchisement by allowing ballots to be received AFTER election day is completed. The ballots aren't required to be validated which is disenfranchising the other ballots. Notice Democrats don't bring up disenfranchising any longer like they used to? Need to get the voter rolls cleaned up first which is always something today's Democrats fight against. Wonder why. Demand all voter registrations be cut off 90 days prior to the first ballots being mailed out. Any registrations after that date will be provisional until verified and vetted. Publicly announce how many registrations at that 90 day period. All ballots will be numbered for tracking and tracing - will be same number announced at the 90 day cut-off. All ballot collection boxes will be numbered with tracking capabilities (think FedEx and Amazon providing regular updates on your shipment). All ballot drop boxes will have ATM style technology (camera) with only 1 envelope able to be submitted at a time which will be date and time marked. A total number will be known that were deposited to ensure it matches the number in the drop box.

I am 80 years old. For all of my voting life, on election day I went to the polls to vote. Results were known a few hours after the polls closed. There was never an issue until somehow mail in voting got started. It needs to return to what worked for so many years. I wonder how many democrats are in office that really shouldn't be there.

"and feed conspiracy fears" "I need some new conspiracy theories. All my old ones turned out to be true." What was it.... seven states ALL stopped counting votes -at the same time- late on Election Night. But some places secretly kept a skeleton crew 'counting' ballots late into the wee hours. Some places received huge dumps of ballots.... all for the HairSniffer... in the wee hours. Some places put covers over the windows so observers could not see what was going on. The shredders did a land-office business right after the -'counting'- was over. Court after court ruled that -apparently no-one- had 'standing' to challenge the HairSniffer's surprise win. I am reminded of Lyin' Lyndon Johnson's 'lost ballot box' in an early race in Texas..... When finally found, ALL the ballots in that box were marked for LBJ.... and it was enough for him to win the election. The Democ'RATS cheat. There's work to be done.

The monstrous, swift-moving flood that swept through the Hill Country of Texas on Friday, killing at least 27 people and leaving many more missing, was a flash flood, the nation's top storm-related killer. Among those missing are more than 20 girls attending a summer camp. (Snip) On Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch, estimating rising water of up to 7 inches (17 centimeters) in spots. A "watch" means conditions are favorable for a flood and people should be prepared, but hazardous conditions might not develop. But the watch was upgraded to a flood warning overnight, a

WINDSOR HEIGHTS, Iowa — It is big and it is beautiful, President Donald Trump says. But for many Democratic leaders, the tax break and spending cut package passed by Trump’s Republican allies in Congress on Thursday represents the key to the Democratic Party’s resurgence. Even before the final vote, Democratic officials were finalizing ambitious plans for rallies, voter registration drives, attack ads, bus tours and even a multiday vigil, all intended to highlight the most controversial elements of Trump’s “big beautiful” bill: deep cuts to the nation’s safety net that will leave nearly 12 million more people without health coverage
