The ascendancy of Zohran Mamdani to challenge Eric Adams for the crown of the leader of New York City has many a resident looking for the exits. Now my cohorts, Brandon Morse and Ward Clark, have offered up warning labels about their respective states of Texas and Alaska as possible landing spots for those fleeing the promised political oppression, but allow me to string up some tropical warning tape at the northern border of Florida. This is not the verdant Valhalla many expect. Yes, we have been the preferred destination for many a New York transplant, but as a lifelong resident of this dysfunctional peninsula,

Comments:

You can always tell anyone NYC transplant to Florida by the amount of angry rant spit on the INSIDE of their windshield!!

My grandparents live in central Florida, and I have bad memories of hot, humid, buggy, summers with frightening afternoon thunderstorms. The winters were better, but not by much - humid and when cold, bone chillingly cold. You couldn't pay me to live there permanently even if I do like the politics. The author fails to mention why the drivers are so bad - many are elderly and shouldn't be driving at all. God's waiting room is not for me......

When I lived in Florida, the NY and NJ license plates on cars were a warning of "Dangerous Jerk at the Wheel". And the obnoxious NY/NJ accent was a similar warning.....fool with a loud mouth, watch out. I hope they stay home.

Although 'Brad' is clearly a male writer or as close as one can get to male these days, Shakespeare's famous line kept popping into my brain, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." As a one-time, one year resident of Winter Park, I loved everything about the place but my wife hated it with equal passion so, guess who won? A suggestion to conservative, adaptive New Yorkers who wish to move there, rent for a year or two first.

There are easily four different Floridas and it sounds like Brad doesn't want any more people in any of them! You've got East Coast, West Coast, the Keys and the Redneck Riviera. And don't forget the Interior. So there are five! One thing is for sure. Liberal/Progressive types are certainly not welcome

To the NYC residents, Everyday, in Florida, it snows 2 feet. Be careful that you don't slip on the non-stop ice going to the grocery store getting vitals. There is no Wi-Fi let alone pure drinking water. PS, Florida bans all food even in your dwelling. You will comply with the these and many future directives or else....... LOL

I took a gap year after graduating from HS...many years ago. One job I got was as a parking attendant at a fancy, rich persons' club in Miami Beach. (The Rev. Billy Graham was an occasional guest) The job only lasted about 4 months because at the end of April, all the members went back north. One of my extra jobs while there was to daily turn over the cushions of all the comfy chairs and sofas where a lot of non-member nasty, little critters liked to hang out.

I hope this becomes a loud and proud thing. Content creators in red states need to make multiple streams about leftists staying in their blue states to live with the mess they helped create. It needs to spread to billboards near the airports, train stations, welcome to signs, etc. Our state and local governments need to also get involved in spreading the message. Leftists need to feel they are not wanted.

Sorry, Florida has no lock on crazy criminals, and Missouri is no substitute. Do you actually think no drivers cut you off in Missouri (or any other state for that matter), or that the courtesy of a turn signal is any less rejected? I got news for you, bad driving is a fashion trend everywhere. I'll give you the alligators though.

Brad, you wrote, "People initially target Florida because it is warm. What they leave out in their romanticized reflections is the word “always.”" That ain't right. Florida is warm, and then it is HOT! I suspect many of you Yankees visit Florida when your state becomes part of the tundra; Florida is wonderful then. Come and visit in August sometime before you make the big move. Two seasons - warm and hot. Heh. (Up North, y'all have four seasons: warm, leaves are dying, trees look dead, and trees making shade again.) I am sitting in my south Texas house with the AC set to 81 degrees . . . because I get cold when it gets down to 80. So, yeah, at 40 degrees those Uggs (with socks!) keep my feet warm. I am a true daughter of the South, as in south of the Arctic North, aka Savannah, Georgia.

Insurance for home very expensive you will pay for sinkhole coverage and of course the hurricane factor is a given. You want a nice green lawn ?....be ready to hire a lawn company because every bug , disease and fungus is laying in wait... a nice lawn can disappear in days. July and August.. outdoor activities are held before 10:00 am or after 07:00 pm otherwise you run the risk of heat stroke . You like to golf..try getting a tee time before it is 98 degrees and you better take a Defensive Driving course because you will be dealing with a lot of folks who drive just like they did " back home". If you are squeamish concerning lizards, bugs and an occasional snake..be forewarned

I lived there for a few years. They have something called Palmetto bugs. They are actually giant roaches. Not making this up. And they are everywhere. And there was once a big, black snake right by my apartment door. Someone said it was a cottonmouth. I had to threaten to sue the apartment complex before they'd come get it. So if I were moving again, why not try some of the northwestern states that are practically empty. Some of them have beautiful scenery.

The assumption that those fleeing New York are responsible for electing communists and run-of-the-mill dirt bags makes as much sense as blaming L.com'ers for electing Biden. Working in a DFW Metroplex police department in the '80s, I was fortunate to work along side a retired NY Highway patrolman and a former beat cop from Elizabeth, NJ. I learned a lot from the very solid NY Hi-Po guy and had a lot of fun working with the guy from Joisey. Both became Texans by choice, right down to their newly acquired North-Central Texas accents.

While President Donald Trump continues on a winning streak seldom seen in presidential politics, the Democrat Party continues to self-immolate — devoid of constructive dialog, much less offering solutions other than throwing fire bombs (pun intended?) — over virtually everything that comes down the conservative pike.
