Trump orders FAA to remove supersonic
flight restrictions: ‘Bold new chapter

President Trump is boosting supersonic aviation in the United States. An executive order the commander in chief signed Friday directs the Federal Aviation Administration to repeal a 1973 rule prohibiting overland supersonic flight, establish new noise standards for aircraft and remove other regulations that get in the way of the development of high-speed planes. “The United States stands at the threshold of a bold new chapter in aerospace innovation,” the president wrote in the order. “For more than 50 years, outdated and overly restrictive regulations have grounded the promise of supersonic flight over land, stifling American ingenuity, weakening our global competitiveness, and ceding leadership to foreign adversaries.”

In my neck of the woods, dirt bikes with unrestricted mufflers are far worse than loud aircraft. Can't deny the little brats their fun but we could slow down aviation.

The technology exists. "Quiet Spike was a collaborative program between Gulfstream Aerospace and NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center to investigate the suppression of sonic booms. The patent was published with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 2004 and is owned by Gulfstream Aerospace." No more excuse to hamper US progress like dims like to do.

I grew up in LA which is some 50 miles from Edwards where they tested all the new planes. We used to hear and feel sonic booms all the time. I don't remember any issue from them. Sometimes they felt like small earthquakes. As I recall in 1972 when they were outlawed it wasn't for any scientific reason but because the only commercial SST was from Europe, the US version was not built because they were too expensive to fly and there was no money in it.

I lived near Hill AFB and Edwards AFB as a kid in the late 60's for a couple years. Sonic booms were common and kind of cool. It was just one aspect of the space race and cold war that we got used to.

A prototype supersonic, yet low noise aircraft prototype has been flying out of Mojave, California's civilian test center for about a year. I have watched their test videos, and this is a very professionally run, competent group, even though they are a small startup company. Their aircraft is not patched together junker, either, a well made, highly sophisticated and properly maintained machine, by all that I can see. This shows great forward-looking leadership from Trump. These new designs produce a much different sonic shock profile, and at cruising altitude the ground noise levels should not be problematic. Plus, I'm old enough, and a USN aviator's son, so that the sound of sonic booms in the 60s was super common, multiple times per day. We always said "The sound of freedom" when we heard the classic double boom that a USN jet of that era made. Banning supersonic flight was an overreaction to a small number of incidents where a jet went supersonic at low altitude either by accident or some clown pilot showing off. THOSE did sometimes cause some damage. But the literally many hundreds of booms that I heard as a kid, zero damage to our homes around USN air stations like Oceana or Jax.

Wow, I well remember all those sonic booms in my youth....only just now realized I hadn't heard any in decades/eons! Interesting development....isn't it wonderful to have a President who can take the 'long view' of things?! Re #7/8/9, thanks for highlighting that XB-1 test flight video on Youtube.....awesome!! I even learned something: never realized the Concorde's nose dip was to solve a runway-visibility issue!

Growing up in Oklahoma as a kid we had to endure those very USAF/FAA sonic boom tests that lead to the restriction by the FAA on supersonic flight over the continental U.S. and yes, there were very good reasons for that restriction. Those booms damaged houses, broke China and glassware, and definitely rattled nerves. There’s a lot of documentation to go along with that study. Trump seems very naive when it comes to matters of aviation. If there’s one directorate of the Executive Branch that’s done exemplary work over its history and lived to its original Congressional Charter, it’s the FAA. It is one government body the whole world looks to for aviation standards to this day. Trump is swinging a “chainsaw” in the “thicket” of government regulations, when a handsaw and rational thought better serve the nation.

Egads. Imagine what the left will do with this. They will claim that since it's well-known that being around fireworks is treacherous for animals, sonic booms have the potential to wipe out an entire endangered breed? We will be the Bad Guys led by Orange Man, who are coming for your fur babies because we are privileged humans who are committing hate crimes against all animals. The media will go bonkers on this. We’ve seen the playbook so many times: Democrats accuse conservatives of fomenting violence, white supremacist action, and “insurrection.” While actual examples of the “right-wing” brutality that they endlessly scream about are few and far between, they stay quite busy in the meantime promoting their own domestic terrorism in the form of the devastating urban destruction during the George Floyd-BLM riots of 2020, the antisemitic demonstrations on college campuses that started in 2023, and now in recent days, the active and hostile resistance against law enforcement officers from our own country.

Last week’s debate confirmed that the Democrats running for mayor are competing almost exclusively on a near-irrelevant issue: who can fight President Donald Trump the most. The field of nine mentioned Trump more than 80 times in two hours; the only other theme to come close was the eight candidates’ pile-on of the clear frontrunner among them, Andrew Cuomo. And even Cuomo has joined the club-Trump club: When he first entered the race, he talked about working with the White House; now he, too, vows to resist. Reality check: New York City depends on more than $100 billion a year in federal aid.

President Donald Trump is reportedly considering ways to pull more federal funding from the State of California, as Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) continues to defy White House policies, despite needing money. California is suffering a large budget deficit for the second year in a row, with the state’s Medicaid program borrowing money to stay afloat. Newsom has also asked the federal government for $40 billion in fire relief. But Newsom is also enthusiastically suing the Trump administration over many of its policies, often seeking the kinds of nationwide injunctions that would stop those policies everywhere, not just in California.

President Donald Trump signed a presidential memorandum on Wednesday evening directing a probe into “who ran” the U.S. during former President Joe Biden’s time in office. Questions regarding Biden’s mental state have rapidly developed among Democrats since the release of Jake Tapper’s and Alex Thompson’s “Original Sin,” detailing the former president’s mental decline while in office. In the White House’s press release, Trump said the memorandum will direct the investigation into “whether certain individuals conspired to deceive the public about Biden’s mental state and unconstitutionally exercise the authorities and responsibilities of the President.”

Brussels, the self-proclaimed capital of the European Union, is no longer the beacon of a united Europe, but an advanced symptom of its disintegration. The normalization of radical Islamic and anti-Semitic discourse we are witnessing in Brussels is the result of 15 years of leaders abrogating their responsibility. Brussels, through its inability -- or unwillingness -- to make unpleasant but necessary choices, is setting itself up as the first potential locus of protracted European unrest. The Islamist Team Fouad Ahidar party embodies a new situation: a political Islam that no longer hides its identity. Instead, it advocates that a religious identity be the underpinning of national cohesion.

TU-95 “Bear” nuclear bombers, TU-22 “Backfire” fast-attack strike bombers and A-50 “Mainstay” command-and-control jets were among the aircraft that were destroyed in the strike, according to reports.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California lawmakers this week advanced several efforts aimed at reining in utility profits and slashing electricity bills as part of their agenda to tackle the sky-high costs of living. The proposals would make sweeping changes to how utilities fund expensive infrastructure projects like putting power lines underground to guard against wildfires. They also would add more oversight around wildfire mitigation spending and put new requirements on utility requests to increase rates. Supporters said the goal is to make the big investor-owned utilities start sharing some of the costs to fight wildfires and build new transmission infrastructure. “This

William Sullivan’s essay regarding scientific atheism is intriguing and enlightening. It got me thinking about a very simple proof for a Creator. The atheist loves to proclaim, “There is no scientific proof of the existence of God!” This is true, since by “scientific” proof, the atheist means “empirical” proof, and there is no empirical proof of anything. However, it is quite easy to use logic to prove in easy steps that God exists and that He is the God of the Bible. 1. Every existing thing either is or is not existentially dependent upon the action of other beings. Those beings that are existentially dependent are called “contingent.” A being that is not
