While President Trump says it’s too soon to back a successor for his party’s 2028 presidential nod, the jockeying and tea-leaf reading has begun in the search for the next GOP leader.
The president himself suggested Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are possible contenders. Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., suggested this past week that he was keeping the door open to a possible run after his father leaves the White House, acknowledging “that calling is there.”
Some swing state governors have also made moves that stoked speculation of presidential ambitions this cycle.
Here are the seven most likely successors to Trump in 2028:

It will be Vance or Rubio. I would back Vance.

Love the deep bench! Name seven Dems that approach these. Go on. I’m waiting.

Not Kemp! There is way too much deep state rot in Georgia.

Whoever wins in 2028 will need to face the social security funding crisis in 2032. It has been kicked down the road for decades. That will be the Dems best chance to reclaim the White House, claiming that social security can be fixed by taking money from the rich. The rich being anyone who's not on welfare.

Too soon to speculate about successors! Please, let us enjoy having him as President for a few months before we start the battles again.
Thanks,

The top two are far stronger than the others and are proving it every day. It is nice to have so many potential successors. The democrat party may not even be here in 2028.

It could have been a three way between Vance/Rubio/DeSantis. But DeSantis has shot himself in the foot. Is seen as too beholden to globalist Bushies by the MAGA base. Is unlikely to get Trump endorsement. If Vance plays his cards right, the nomination and the '28 election are his to lose. Don't rule out some power sharing between Vance/Rubio/Don Jr.

OMG, I am so tired of this. Give it a rest already. The current administration is only four months in, it makes zero sense to be be obsessing over who the nominee will be three and a half years from now. So much can happen between now and then to affect that outcome. Can we please get through the midterms first before we start worrying about 2028?

Thinking of other possibilities. What about John Kennedy of Louisiana? Haven't heard anything negative about him. The other is Mike Pompeo.
Like Vance and Rubio, but not really sure how they would govern after Trump finishes his term. Don't want Trump II. Don't want Youngkin or Kemp. Not sure what I think of DeSantis. Know the Democrats hate him, and he has been good for Florida. Think other Republicans were sliming him. Noem just doesn't resonate.
One thing about Trump. He cannot be duplicated and anyone that comes after him will not be Trump.

Way too early but nice to have a deep bench with options. DeMS-13 have Brylcream Boy, Tampon Tim, barfly AOC, a couple of uninspiring and turning their state from blue to purple goobernors, and a lying sack of Schiff (don't think he isn't in the hunt) to name a few stud of the crud types. With 3 and a half years to go and Trump creating an environment of opportunity, I expect others to prove they are capable politicians. The only thing we have to fear, is our Refublicans in Congress. They can screw up sure victory faster than a DeMS-13 kissing a gangbanger for the cameras!

If this is what we have to choose from, we're screwed! The majority of these, especially the top ones, are as Deep State as you can get, and apparently--based on the comments--the GOP voters are just as gullible as ever!
Wake up and do your homework before you start drooling over these people!

The issue is it took 50 years for Democrats to get us into the mess we find ourselves in, it won't be undone in 1 term or 1 election cycle.
Republicans need to realize a long-term strategy of consistently winning over the next 8-12 years where they can reduce the debt, taxes, regulations, etc...

Well at least they are thinking there will be an election in 2028, a few months ago they were all saying 2024 was going to be the last election.

It is very foolish to be talking Presidential politcs at this time--give it a rest!
We ought to be laser focused on he mid-terms and keeping control and gaining seats in the upper and lower chambers. There are plenty of low-T Old Rinos to remove who are in the way of getting things done. The Cheap and Easy statement is to simply "primary them", but with too many challengers tearing each other apart, the incumbent RINOs have HUGE war chests and they simply survive getting 50% of the vote plus one more to stay entrenched. The only thing that seems to work is if they die in office, are involved in a scandal, or rarely resign.
No more Clintons, Bushes, Obamas, or Trumps.

Be real folks. The people listed are already looking to 2028 and how they can be best positioned to make their case. These people are serving the president, they know Trump gas reshaped the GOP in his image and people know this will take more than four years to fix. IMHO Vance or Rubio will be our future after Trump.

ridiculous to speculate now. we need to stay focused on heavy lifting necessary now, taking notes on who
shows up for the task and who doesn't. starting with how Big Beautiful Bill turns out.

Trump has shown wisdom in "raising up" a crop of young people who can serve in government for years to come. The GOP will have an abundance of good candidates. Current cabinet members should take care of their personal lives and exercise good judgment and discipline in living their lives, avoiding scandal and even the appearance of corruption. Don't give the Dems anything to use against them.
You can tell that the Dems are afraid of Noems as they already are executing a plan to besmirch her reputation and turn her into a bimbo. And I hope Tulsi's husband is a strong man as the Dems will set up every honey-pot trap they can.

I like Vance. I like Rubio. I like DeSantis. I like Youngkin.
When topics such as these arose in the past, Rush Limbaugh always--always-- said that it was a waste of time to engage in these speculations because so much can transpire in the long interim leading up to the next presidential election that future unpredictable events would naturally exclude some potential candidates.
President Trump has a solid two or three years to move his presidency forward, after which he will lapse into lame duck status and be unable to obtain legislative support for much of his agenda. The big risk is that President Trump, who turns 79 in a couple of weeks, may weaken, lose some of his drive by reason of increasing age, or may even die. I sincerely pray he will remain strong to serve out his full presidential term of office. BUT, if for any reason he does not, Vance must aggressively step up. Should any of this occur, Vance will either become a shoo-in for the 2028 nomination, or he will effectively weaken his chances. Vance can play a key role by staying close to the President, staying supportive, and preparing himself should the need arise.

It’s early, Vance and Rubio seem to be pulling away from the pack, good news is they’re all pretty young, so they won’t age out. I like DeSantis he would have been my choice except for Trump but he seems to lack a little something on the stump, it shouldn’t be important but he has a bad whiney voice. He’d be good on the Supreme Court. There’s no requirement that justices must come from the Federal judiciary, that’s just a modern convention that like most customs of that sort usually benefits the left.
