He missed the boat on this one.
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Sunday bizarrely suggested that DOGE cuts to the US Coast Guard could have been partly to blame for a Mexican tall ship’s deadly collision with the Brooklyn Bridge.
“We know there has been meddling by the Trump administration into USCG staffing, and we need to know how this might have impacted the events of last night — from a command, communication and local coordination level,” the embattled Dem said in a press release.
“There are indications that this service [Vehicle Traffic System] may not be fully or adequately functional in light of a hiring freeze,” he said —

NIce try Chuckles. But the most bizarre conspiracy theory award still goes to then Speaker of the House Tom Foley (DeMS-13) for claiming he had information that then VP candidate Bush was secretly flown by the CIA/USAF to Europe to negotiate with Iran to hold the hostages until after the elections. Naturally nothing even hinted that such a thing occurred.

It’s very ironic that Senator Schumer is opining so vociferously about the Mexican Navy ship accident on the East River. The usually talkative Senator was strangely silent back in 2003 when a Staten Island ferry crashed into a dock after the pilot passed out, killing eleven passengers and injuring another seventy people onboard.
Ordinarily, you’d expect to hear Senator Schumer, pontificating about the lack of safety standards on the ferry, but his silence was deafening.
Maybe that’s because the senator’s wife, Iris Weinshall, was the NYC Commissioner of the Department of Transportation when this terrible accident occurred. And, we could hardly expect the normally voluble Chuck Schumer to hold his wife to be responsible as DOT commissioner for this transportation tragedy. The man is a despicable mealy-mouth.

This ranks right up there with representative Hank Johnson's observation that Guam might tip over and capsize because of too many Marines on the island. Just when you think you've heard or seen it all, along comes a complete fool like Schumer to compete with 'ol Hank for the honor of wearing the tallest dunce cap.

The US Coast Guard would have no responsibility at all when a foreign ship is handled incompetently along with an engine failure in a river causing it to instantly crash into a bridge. One would think that there would have been a New York harbor pilot aboard and enough powerful tug boats contracted for to ensure that the training ship safely transited up the river against the current to the refueling pier.

So Trump and DOGE (read Musk) conspired to make that ship lose power and drift backwards in the bridge? Trump can do that Chuckie? C'mon, man.

When we first heard about this last night, I asked my husband just how long it will be before they blame President Trump. Not even 24hours. Something I read earlier today is true.
We have to stop asking just how stupid democrats are because they're taking it as a challenge.

Schumer is bizarre…a constant bloviator. Winds were 7 from the north…the boat traveled upwind? The tides were going out. The boat travelled upside? The stern wave shows the boat moving reasonably fast up current. Count this to pilot error.

The Mexican sail training Tall ship is actually one of four all built to the same plan and in the same yard, at the same time.(copies of an older German ship) The others are the National Vessels of Ecuador, Columbia, and Venezuela. They claim it "Lost power" but it had serious way on, in reverse. They had fired nearly half of the professional crew to take on more "Cadets", of which most were teenage females. Have worked on and sailed Tall Ships, I am amazed the top masts didn't fall all of the way to the deck which would have killed a score or more.

No, wait. Did Elon have a qualified scuba diver on the DOGE team? He could have gone under the boat and disabled the engine. It was then at the mercy of the wind and the current. Don't be too quick to deny it. They could have been trying to create a rift in our beautiful friendship with Mexico.

I don't understand how this happened so fast that they couldn't order the cadets off the masts before they struck
And yes it appeared that they were powered in reverse when it hit.
lots of questions.

By Upchuck al-Schumer's own twisted idea of "logic"... his advocacy for FJB's notion of unlimited "parole" of illegal aliens makes Upchuck an accessory in every murder committed by them in the United States. I await AG Bondi's arrest warrant for al-Schumer to be issued....

I bet the non-sail power plant had chinese chips installed in the navigation circuit boards. Backdoor, or in this case a backwards control of the ship by a third party hack. Another not so subtle warning to America - those chips are in everything, worldwide.

So, a boat losing power in the East River is a result of Budget Cuts? Really? I don't think that the guys in the engine room realized that if they had they would have asked for money when the engine failed.
