He missed the boat on this one. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Sunday bizarrely suggested that DOGE cuts to the US Coast Guard could have been partly to blame for a Mexican tall ship’s deadly collision with the Brooklyn Bridge. “We know there has been meddling by the Trump administration into USCG staffing, and we need to know how this might have impacted the events of last night — from a command, communication and local coordination level,” the embattled Dem said in a press release. “There are indications that this service [Vehicle Traffic System] may not be fully or adequately functional in light of a hiring freeze,” he said —

NIce try Chuckles. But the most bizarre conspiracy theory award still goes to then Speaker of the House Tom Foley (DeMS-13) for claiming he had information that then VP candidate Bush was secretly flown by the CIA/USAF to Europe to negotiate with Iran to hold the hostages until after the elections. Naturally nothing even hinted that such a thing occurred.

It’s very ironic that Senator Schumer is opining so vociferously about the Mexican Navy ship accident on the East River. The usually talkative Senator was strangely silent back in 2003 when a Staten Island ferry crashed into a dock after the pilot passed out, killing eleven passengers and injuring another seventy people onboard. Ordinarily, you’d expect to hear Senator Schumer, pontificating about the lack of safety standards on the ferry, but his silence was deafening. Maybe that’s because the senator’s wife, Iris Weinshall, was the NYC Commissioner of the Department of Transportation when this terrible accident occurred. And, we could hardly expect the normally voluble Chuck Schumer to hold his wife to be responsible as DOT commissioner for this transportation tragedy. The man is a despicable mealy-mouth.

The US Coast Guard would have no responsibility at all when a foreign ship is handled incompetently along with an engine failure in a river causing it to instantly crash into a bridge. One would think that there would have been a New York harbor pilot aboard and enough powerful tug boats contracted for to ensure that the training ship safely transited up the river against the current to the refueling pier.

The Mexican sail training Tall ship is actually one of four all built to the same plan and in the same yard, at the same time.(copies of an older German ship) The others are the National Vessels of Ecuador, Columbia, and Venezuela. They claim it "Lost power" but it had serious way on, in reverse. They had fired nearly half of the professional crew to take on more "Cadets", of which most were teenage females. Have worked on and sailed Tall Ships, I am amazed the top masts didn't fall all of the way to the deck which would have killed a score or more.

First, my sympathies for the Biden family. I’ve been there. Now, here’s my puzzlement. Prostate cancer is notoriously slow-growing. Although prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among men (second to only lung cancer), that’s not because it’s so deadly, but because it’s so common. It’s a fact that more men die with prostate cancer than of it. Of those who die, the typical mechanism of death is by the cancer cells metastasizing to other organs and/or to the bones. It takes years for that to happen – typically something like 5-10 years even without treatment, and even longer with treatment.
