A massive Mexican navy tall ship on a goodwill visit to New York slammed into the Brooklyn Bridge late Saturday — toppling its huge masts into the deck in a horrifying scene that left 19 injured, including four critically, according to fire officials and sources.
The majestic Cuauhtémoc — which has a crew of 277, mostly cadets — apparently lost power as it was sailing out of New York on its way to Iceland and the current carried it into the road deck of the bridge around 8:30 p.m., according to Mayor Eric Adams and footage of the crash.
The collision sheared off the ship’s 147-foot masts. Adams said two sailors

The Gov and Mayor of NY will be on the phone tonight requesting federal funds from Trump. The American taxpayer seems to be the world's insurer. I wonder when the American taxpayer will be allowed to collect insurance premiums to fund these disasters.

The Mayor Should be asking why there were no tugboats guiding that Mexican training vessel out of NY Harbor?

Not one penny. Mexico can pay for its own expenses and any damage to the bridge.

You can’t build a decent sailing vessel out of salvaged wood from U.S, homes, and pallets.

40% of the original crew were replaced by cadets because there were so many new ones, that the personnel in charge of the boat wanted to make room for the newbies. I have a suspicion that this ship was being “manned” by DEI recruits. I think I read that the captain is female as was the majority of the crew.

147 foot masts, 135 foot bridge clearance. Hmmmm. If Mexico wants to show us "goodwill" just stop the Fentanyl. Who thought this was a good idea? Who knew that Mexico had a navy?

Lost power? The wind died? It's a sailing ship.

The ship was built in 1982 and has an engine. There is no excuse for it to crash into a bridge.

Believe it or not, they also have an Air Force! We have nothing to fear from them militarily, which is why they use their cartels.

The good news is that the next guy to purchase the Brooklyn Bridge will receive a nice discount because it has been in an accident.

Would like to retract my previous post (#16):
After viewing several videos from different angles, it appears that the ship -- which was apparently under engine power (not under sail -- sails were furled and crewmembers were manning the yards) -- lost power and drifted backward with the river current into/under the bridge.

IF you think this was just a fluke, I've got the BROOKLYN Bridge to sell you. Same thing happened in Baltimore. Power suddenly goes out. Guaranteed the chinese had electronics on board.this shipped. I don't believe in co-incidence ino ur major ports. The target was the bridge -not the ship.

The Mexicans aren't as familiar with the East River as they are with the Rio Grande River. Meanwhile, the illegals were seen leaving the ship.

The video I saw showed it moving exactly backwards as it slammed into the bridge. That is the hallmark of a ship dragging anchor. The resistance of the anchor keeps the bow aligned to the anchor, but cannot stop it.
Either that or someone had the engine in reverse and was steering it backwards, which takes malfeasance.
I'll bet on incompetence in anchor setting over malfeasance. After all, it's the Mexican Navy. LOL!
We don't need no steenking second anchor!

#9 It's pretty common for sailboats to have motors to maneuver in tight situations, like around a bridge, or so they can move when there's no wind. The real question is why tugs weren't directing the thing out into open water.
