In the 1960s and 1970s, a totalitarian movement almost destroyed the republic. Now it threatens to do so again.Recently, I wrote an essay on the late 19th-century Russian pogroms that forced my great-grandparents to flee to the United States. I observed the striking and foreboding parallels between that old eruption of Jew-hatred and the rise of Red-Green Alliance antisemitism in the United States. I did so to highlight a peculiar irony of history: None of this is new.

Comments:

Excellent analysis of today's left in light of history. Indeed, there is nothing new under the sun. Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. That is especially true for the willfully ignorant, those who bury their heads in the sand or stop up their ears to refuse to see or hear the truth. Such people think they have come up with something novel when they have just put a slight twist on an evil as old as human history..

Or Op, those who still listen to the Legacy Media, aka the Enemedia! They are out there. I've seen them, and unfortunately heard them. They get their news from a toxic combination of ABC, NBC, and The View. Truly disheartening.

The Maryland senator put a wedge between Trump and Salvadoran dictator Bukele and showed Democrats how to find their spines. On Sunday, Senator Chris Van Hollen conquered all five morning talk shows. He was by far the most coveted guest after his return from El Salvador, where he stood down the country’s despot and secured a meeting with the illegally deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Van Hollen delivered love from Abrego Garcia’s family and his growing legion of advocates and proved that the 29-year-old father is alive and safe—at least for now.

On Friday, the story of an American citizen being held by immigration officials for ten days burst into the political sphere. It was the perfect storm for the press, who were salivating over the opportunity to turn one of the Trump administration's best polling issues into a liability. As the original reporting went, Jose Hermosillo was wrongfully arrested in Albuquerque, NM, and held for over a week despite telling ICE officials that he was an American. It wasn't until his family showed up with a birth certificate and a Social Security card that he was released.

Several days ago, invoking the Alien Enemies Act (“AEA”), President Trump ordered that “250 Tren de Aragua members and 23 MS-13 members wanted for alleged crimes in El Salvador” be deported. The woke left, led by the Soros minions, immediately asked Judge James Boasberg of the US District Court in DC to stop it—and amazingly, he agreed via minimalist “minute orders.” Boasberg ignored Trump’s findings and ordered that the planes carrying the deportees (already en route to El Salvador) return to the US. This grotesquely wrong decision justifies impeachment.

The hammer is about to drop on Act Blue, the Democrats’ golden goose of fundraising, as House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) teams up with the FBI to expose what could be the biggest money-laundering scandal in American political history. In an explosive interview with Benny Johnson, Comer laid out a damning case against the far-left fundraising juggernaut, accusing it of funneling billions in suspicious cash—potentially from foreign adversaries—into Democrat coffers under the guise of “grassroots” donations.

In a recent podcast interview with popular host Joe Rogan, comedian Bill Murray complained about the false description he felt famous journalist Bob Woodward had rendered of Murray’s good friend, the late John Belushi. As he expounded to Rogan on what he felt was Woodward’s gross inaccuracy, Murray mused that as a result, he began to think that President Nixon was framed by Woodward’s similarly false reporting during the Watergate scandal. While Murray was not making a serious allegation about Watergate, in fact he was generally correct:

As an amateur historian -- and probably not a good one -- I go nuts when I see amateurish fictions tendered as core premises. This is no more frequently found than in Hollywood; but do not kid yourself, it is not confined to Hollywood...Of course, there are other mistakes, but the grandest mistake of all is Islam. It is now coming out into the popular realm that the historicity of Mohammed may be a total fabrication. Not merely a distortion, but a total fabrication. Robert Spencer has written a polemic questioning the whole historicity of Islam’s founder. And not just Robert Spencer, but Dr. Jay Smith.

REP. JAMIE RASKIN: Well, the Department of Justice traditionally has enjoyed institutional independence from the office of the president. The president has not ordered investigations into specific individuals or terminated investigations into others. That principle was, of course, tested during Donald Trump’s first presidential administration. He seemed to want to treat the Department of Justice as a mere adjunct of his own presidency, under the unitary executive theory.

George Orwell, that idealistic socialist disillusioned by the Soviet “Workers’ Paradise” (what the great Ronald Reagan called the Evil Empire), took special note of how communists perverted language. Famous, in 1984, the motto was “War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength.” In our time, as well, our speech is polluted by words that do not speak the truth but cover it up. Here are some of them.

Michelle Obama is complaining again, and this time it’s about how “expensive” it was living in the White House while her husband was president. It’s dangerous,” Obama said. “As the first black potential president, we knew there would be death threats … how would we afford it? Because it’s expensive to live in the White House, as many people don’t know.” “I mean, much is not covered,” she continued. “You’re paying for every food, every bit of food that you eat, you know,

They seem designed to intimidate those of us who serve in this critical capacity,” Jackson said at a judges’ conference in Puerto Rico. “The threats and harassment are attacks on our democracy, on our system of government.

Am I going to have to spend another summer weaving my car around rude bicyclists who think they own the road? It is this second question I'm currently pondering, as I witnessed earlier in the day some poor sap driving a car, stuck behind a gaggle of inconsiderate male bicyclists (the rude ones are always men),

Felix Rojas, 44, unlawfully crossed the US-Mexico border “on several occasions” in the late 1990s before being caught by Border Patrol agents and voluntarily turning back, an ICE spokesperson revealed. But Rojas apparently crossed the border at least one more time and remained undetected by immigration authorities until NYPD cops arrested him Sunday night in connection to the shocking defilement of 37-year-old family man Jorge Gonzalez,

The calls for violence are growing louder and louder by the day. The agitators are calling for the assassination of public figures and elected officials; they are calling for acts of insurrection by federal and local law enforcement. These are actions that would very likely prompt a second civil war, but the agitators have no thought of that, or, on the few occasions when they register that possibility, seem somehow to think that their side would win. The people making these calls for violence are, of course, all members of the "progressive" left. Jonathan Turley recently penned an interesting piece on those people.

Washington — A federal judge ruled Friday that President Trump's executive order targeting the law firm Perkins Coie is unconstitutional and permanently blocked the administration from enforcing it. In a 102-page decision, U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell ruled in favor of the firm and said Mr. Trump's directive that sought to punish it sent the message that "lawyers must stick to the party line, or else." "Using the powers of the federal government to target lawyers for their representation of clients and avowed progressive employment policies in an overt attempt to suppress and punish certain viewpoints, however, is contrary to the Constitution, which requires that the government respond to dissenting
