Another week has come and gone in the nation’s capital, which means congressional Republicans are either doing nothing productive, wasting taxpayer money, or losing major policy fights. In the case of this week (and many others), it’s all of the above. On Americans’ dime, the GOP-run House was all but forced to abruptly end work on its legislative agenda on Tuesday for the remainder of the week amid efforts led in part by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., to allow representatives who are new parents to vote by proxy. [Snip] ...Luna took an oath to represent her constituents on a full-time basis.

Much like every other major story, the dying news media have managed to take a really interesting topic and thoroughly dumb it down to a limited set of monotonous slogans. [Snip] Me no like tariff! Tariff bad! [Snip] Ultimately, producers might decide it’s better to simply make their stuff in America in order to skirt the tariffs, which allows them to sell more of it in the world’s richest market (America). Or, other nations might remove trade barriers and allow more goods from the U.S. to be sold inside their borders if it means we eliminate or at least decrease the new tariffs. Ideally, both happen and everyone benefits.

Following President Donald Trump's "Liberation Day" speech from the Rose Garden on Wednesday afternoon, during which he announced a new wide-ranging tariff strategy, politicians took to their partisan corners to express their thoughts. [Snip] During his Rose Garden remarks, Trump held up a poster board showing the combined rate of tariffs and other non-tariff barriers that other countries impose on U.S. exports alongside the reciprocal tariffs the Trump administration plans to levy on imports from those countries. [Snip] "Trump’s tariffs aren’t starting a trade war--they’re ending one," ... "For decades, other countries ripped off American workers with unfair tariffs and barriers. Now, we’re finally fighting back. America First!"

“Elon Musk and Marjorie Taylor Greene are trying to defund Sesame Street and dismantle PBS and NPR,” Rep. Robert Garcia claimed during hearings on the two radical leftist organizations. [Snip] The USAID grants in question were $20 million... A non-profit with over half-a-billion is not about to disappear if we stop funding Jihad Street in Iraq. ... Sesame Street already gets sizable amounts of money from liberal foundations and billionaires... [Snip] The real nightmare on Sesame Street came not from the end of its nonprofit work or PBS productions, but the end of HBO MAX’s lucrative deal to screen and showcase its episodes.

Elon Musk will exit his role with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on schedule later this spring, once "his incredible work at DOGE is complete," the White House confirmed Wednesday. Leavitt was referring to a Wednesday Politico article... [Snip] "Politico has become a tabloid paper that would rather run fake news for clicks than real reporting," White House spokesman Harrison Fields told Fox Digital Wednesday of Politico's report. "This is exactly why President Trump and DOGE have terminated millions of dollars in wasteful, government contracts to so-called news organizations that have diminished their credibility with the American people."

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The liberal-leaning candidate is projected to win a high-profile and historically expensive election in Wisconsin on Tuesday, protecting progressive majority control of the battleground state's Supreme Court, which is likely to rule on crucial issues like congressional redistricting, voting and labor rights, and abortion. The Associated Press projects that Dane County Circuit Court Judge Susan Crawford will defeat Brad Schimel, a former state attorney general who currently serves as a state circuit court judge in Waukesha County. Schimel, the conservative-aligned candidate in the race, was endorsed by President Donald Trump.

The following is the prepared text of a speech the author gave in March at an Indiana Call to Action event in South Bend, Indiana. The New York Times recently released data putting Indiana in the top 10 states Americans relocated to in 2023. [Snip] Seven of these are completely Republican-controlled, and two have Republican legislatures. Indiana is the only state on the list without a warm or mountainous climate. Professor Michael New pointed out that eight of these ten states enacted strong pro-life laws after the Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade. It didn’t damage their attractions one bit.

Higher education institutions in Ohio are barred from taking a stance on marriage after Republican Gov. Mike DeWine signed a law at the end of March deeming belief in the legal and religious union as “controversial.” Republicans billed the Enact Advance Ohio Higher Education Act as the best way to eliminate universities’ racist admission and hiring practices and expand ideological diversity by explicitly outlawing “political and ideological litmus tests” and requiring schools commit to “seek[ing] out invited speakers who have diverse ideological or political views.” The law also, however, requires institutions to declare they will not “endorse or oppose” “controversial beliefs,” including marriage.

House GOP proposal seeks to remove an Obama-appointed judge who blocked President Donald Trump’s administration from conducting deportation flights of suspected Venezuelan gang members under the Alien Enemies Act. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) unveiled on Monday a resolution to remove James Boasberg,...for alleged “failure to maintain the standard of good behavior” mandated by Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution. “Judge Boasberg abused his judicial authority for political gain... He must not be permitted to remain in his position,” ... “Congress has a duty to fulfill the promises we’ve made to the American people, including defending the President’s authority to enforce our laws.”

Federal Judge James Boasberg is facing mounting criticism from President Donald Trump and his allies as he presides over multiple high-profile lawsuits targeting the Trump administration--cases that have now brought the judge’s personal and professional ties under fresh scrutiny. Boasberg, who was previously appointed to the secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and reportedly once roomed with Justice Brett Kavanaugh at Yale,... [Snip] "The Chief Justice handpicked DC Obama Judge Jeb Boasberg to serve on the FISA court," [Snip] At the start of the March 27 hearing, Boasberg emphasized that he was randomly assigned to the case through a docket computer system.

For the Evangelical Christians who have given--and still give--overwhelming support to President Trump while refusing to criticize him for language and behavior they would presumably denounce in a fellow church member, here’s an easy one for you. [Snip] White-Cain is soliciting donations before Easter of $1,000 or more to her “ministry.” In exchange she promises “7 specific supernatural blessings.”...None of this is new for White-Cain and other “prosperity gospel” ministers, but the difference is that she associates, advises and presumably has influence over the president of the United States. [Snip] Their “doctrine” seems to be “let us prey.”

It’s become fairly obvious over the past week that there is a highly political campaign to take down Pete Hegseth as America’s defense secretary. [Snip] The real reason leftists and other establishment hacks are gunning for Hegseth’s resignation has nothing to do with their fake national security concerns and everything to do with the fact that he’s an outsider who represents a threat to the system they’ve spent decades protecting. Unlike so many of their fellow D.C. insiders, Hegseth is not beholden to the military-industrial complex and defense lobbyists wielding their influence throughout Washington. His only interests are--and always have been--warfighting and the troops.

Mr. Fleetwood’s reminder that “showing up on a full-time basis” is expected of congressional members reflects a reality for employees in the private sector.
