Artist who painted ‘worst’ Trump portrait
for Colorado State Capitol says 41-year
career may be doomed after prez’s criticism

The artist behind a portrait of Donald Trump in the Colorado State Capitol says her career could be in tatters now that the president has besmirched it on social media. Sarah Boardman’s painting of the president had hung in the Denver building for six years before Trump called it “purposefully distorted” and “truly the worst” on his Truth Social platform in January, prompting state lawmakers to yank it off the wall. Now the artist’s 41-year career “is in danger of not recovering” from the backlash, Boardman said in a statement on her website on Saturday.

I predict just the opposite. With the publicity of Trump's comment and her responding squall, there are plenty of rich Trump-haters who will be calling her up to do work for them. Alternately, she can set up a GoFundMe account and cry the blues -good and loud- and the money will come rolling in.

A good portrait captures the person. She appears to "prettify" her subjects. Erases all the character. President Trump has an incredibly strong face. She missed that by miles. Forty-one years were too long unless all she did were feel-good society portraits.

If anyone looks at her other official portraits, they are passable. Not really top level by any stretch of the imagination. Her portrait of President Trump is willfully bad. She went out of her way to make it bad. It is easy to see compared to the other portraits. She can't paint hands and doesn't understand lighting when she isn't trying real hard to copy a photo. NO artist is without detractors. You can't please everyone, and even if the critic is famous and hates your work, he is allowed to have an opinion. In this case, it is obvious to anyone comparing this stupid painting to any photo of the President, that she did not just miss the likeness a little bit, she sabotaged her own work. Probably for all the usual reasons. The President is not the easiest subject, because he has such light hair and eyebrows, but as an artist of 4 decades and a portfolio that is passable, she should be ashamed of that portrait. It is as bad as the President says, but I think she meant to insult him. That is the only reason that makes sense, considering her other work.

Claims that President Trump inherited a thriving economy from President Biden are not just misleading—they’re dishonest. The Biden supporters measure economic “growth” from the lowest point of the COVID lockdowns in 2020, when businesses were shuttered and unemployment was artificially high. This makes even mediocre recovery look like booming progress. But if we compare Biden’s economy to 2019—the last full year before the pandemic—many key indicators show not a robust rebound but an economy weighed down by inflation, debt, and diminished purchasing power. Real wages are down. From January 2021 to May 2024, average hourly earnings for private-sector workers fell by 2.24% when adjusted for inflation.
