The former US attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia who was found dead Saturday morning had been in charge of some of the biggest cases targeting leaks in the CIA and Russian nationals carrying out fraud in America. Officials are investigating Jessica Aber’s cause of death after the 43-year-old was discovered unresponsive at her home by Alexandria police officers just before 9:20 a.m. Saturday. Prior to her resignation in January as President Trump took office, the Biden-nominated attorney saw one of her biggest wins in court when ex-CIA analyst Asif Rahman, 34, pleaded guilty to leaking top-secret documents about Israel’s plan to strike Iran last year.

The reporting around her death seems to be a little sensational. While it is sad that she died so young, at the end of the article, it states that she had a longstanding medical issue and her close friend(s) believe that issue caused her death.

I suspect that #4 is correct, although I have been wrong before. Most of us have had friends or family who for no apparent reason at all contracted a fatal disease at a comparatively early age, and there wasn't much that medical science could do about it. Remember David Mamet's line from The Untouchables, spoken by Malone (Sean Connery): "Tomorrow is promised to no one." RIP

As background, according to a “Washington Post” article published January 15, 2025, Ms. Aber, nominated by Joe Biden, planned to resign “as U. S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia upon President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday.” The article notes that “The nation’s 93 U.S. attorneys typically step down or offer their resignations when a new president takes office.”

Without knowing the nature of Aber's medical condition(s), a bit difficult yet to point to her line of work as the reason why she passed. Yeah, I know. First instinct is to assume the russkies were behind it. And maybe they were.

Sen. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Tuesday drew attention to Congress’s power over the federal judiciary as Republicans plot how to legislatively channel their outrage over district judges who have blocked Trump administration actions. “We do have authority over the federal courts,” Johnson said in a press conference Tuesday. “We can eliminate an entire district court. We do have power over funding over the courts and all these other things. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and Congress is going to act.” Johnson clarified that he was not calling to eliminate courts, but rather meant to illustrate Congress’s broad scope of authority, Punchbowl News reported.
