Two prisoners who are among the 37 federal inmates whose death sentences were commuted last month by President Joe Biden — a move that spares them from the death chamber — have taken an unusual stance: They're refusing to sign paperwork accepting his clemency action. Shannon Agofsky and Len Davis, both inmates at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana, filed emergency motions in federal court in the state's southern district on Dec. 30 seeking an injunction to block having their death sentences commuted to life in prison without parole. Washington — President Biden announced Thursday that for the next six months, the federal government will pay for 100% of the disaster response costs from the wildfires destroying neighborhoods across the greater Los Angeles area. The president also said he'll be asking Congress for more funding to help. (Snip) "I told the governor and local officials, spare no expense," Mr. Biden said, calling the damage "catastrophic." The 100% disaster response coverage from the federal government for the next 180 days is an increase from the current 75% the president previously allotted, and more than the 90% Mr. Biden said California Gov.

WASHINGTON — Retiring President Biden became a great-grandfather Wednesday when his granddaughter Naomi gave birth in Los Angeles — with Biden announcing the “good news” as three large wildfires raged nearby. “The good news is, I’m a great-grandfather as of today,” Biden, 82, said during a briefing on the blazes in the Pacific Palisades, which have killed at least two people and left dozens more homeless. “I’ll remember this day for a lot of reasons,” the president told reporters at a Santa Monica fire station before declining to answer questions from the press about the natural disaster, which has destroyed

In an op-ed published in the Colorado Springs Gazette, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman accused Denver Mayor Mike Johnston of not being truthful about how migrants, including Venezuelan gang members, ended up in Aurora. Coffman said he filed an open records request that shows Johnston used the cover of non-profits to quietly dump migrants in other cities. Johnston denied the allegations, stating, "The City of Denver never places anyone anywhere." Johnston said he was blindsided by the op-ed that included a headline claiming, "Denver's Mayor offloads immigrants on Aurora." I'm surprised by this because Mayor Coffman and I have a collaborative

The FBI has remained silent on whether it will fire or discipline the agent who initially told the media and public that the shocking New Year's Day attack in New Orleans was "not a terrorist event," before the agency quickly backtracked and reported the attack was in fact under investigation as a terror incident. Fox News Digital reached out to the FBI's press office and press secretary on Thursday and Friday, inquiring whether New Orleans field office FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Alethea Duncan would face termination or disciplinary action over her initial claim the attack was not connected

RENO, Nev. — President Joe Biden’s administration said Monday it is taking steps to bar oil, gas and geothermal development for 20 years in northeastern Nevada’s Ruby Mountains. The administration said it has submitted an application to withdraw about 264,000 acres (107,000 hectares) of federal lands in the area from such leasing. That starts a 90-day public comment period on the 20-year prohibition and prevents oil, gas and geothermal development for two years during the process. (Snip) The move came three weeks before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, who has vowed to ramp up oil and gas production and

RALEIGH, N.C. — In one of his final acts in office, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper commuted the death sentences of 15 men convicted of murder to life in prison without parole on Tuesday, reducing the state's death row population by more than 10%. Cooper, who was barred from seeking a third consecutive term, will give way to fellow Democrat Josh Stein on Wednesday when Stein takes the oath of office. Cooper, who was previously the attorney general for 16 years, said his commutation decisions occurred following a thorough review of petitions offered by defendants and input from prosecutors and victims'

Democrat Stacey Abrams, the renowned voting rights activist and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate, argued the U.S. was nearly “evenly divided” when President-elect Trump won the 2024 presidential election over Vice President Harris. “Donald Trump won the election, but it wasn’t a landslide,” Abrams, who lost two election bids for governor in the Peach State, said in an interview Monday with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes. “It was an evenly divided nation. He got more people, but this was not the seismic shift where 57, 58 percent of America said no.” “It was less than 50 percent of the electorate who said this

ATLANTA, Ga. - Over a year ago when former President Jimmy Carter entered hospice care, President Joe Biden said he planned to deliver the eulogy at the funeral. “He asked me to do his eulogy,” Biden said, before stopping himself from saying more. “Excuse me, I shouldn’t say that.” Carter’s death was announced Sunday, and it’s not clear whether Biden’s plans are the same as when he announced them. “I spent time with Jimmy Carter and it’s finally caught up with him, but they found a way to keep him going for a lot longer than they anticipated because they

Homelessness in the U.S. jumped 18.1% this year, hitting a record level, with the dramatic rise driven mostly by a lack of affordable housing as well as devastating natural disasters and a surge of migrants in some regions of the country, federal officials said Friday. More than 770,000 people were counted as homeless in federally required tallies taken across the country during a single night in January 2024, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said in its new report. The estimate likely undercounts the number of unhoused people given that it doesn't include people staying with friends or

New York Governor Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, signed legislation this week that requires major fossil fuel companies to contribute fees to support New York's climate change mitigation efforts. Under the new law, companies with significant greenhouse gas emissions will be required to contribute to a state fund dedicated to infrastructure projects aimed at mitigating future climate change damage and repairing existing impacts. The legislation, approved earlier this year, compels major oil and gas companies to help cover the costs of recovery after extreme weather events. The funds will also support resilience projects, including coastal wetland restoration and upgrades to critical

Los Angeles' budget is in the spotlight as multiple wildfires rage around the city amid revelations that Mayor Karen Bass slashed the fire department's budget last year while prioritizing spending on the city's homeless population. For the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Los Angeles budgeted $837 million for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), which was roughly 65% the size of the homeless budget of $1.3 billion. An analysis by L.A.'s city comptroller last year found that roughly half the budget for homelessness went unspent.

Joe Biden is mentally cooked and almost out the door, but he had to do what presidents do during these natural disasters. The wildfires engulfing Los Angeles County is the second inferno Biden has dealt with. He led Maui burn to the ground and took his sweet time visiting the island, whose residents endured the worst wildfire seen in almost a century. The president was briefed on the raging wildfires that have so far killed at least two people, destroyed over 1,000 buildings, forced 70,000 from their homes, and charred close to 30,000 acres. None of the fires have been contained (via CBS News):

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass became stone-faced when confronted by a reporter as she returned to America to find her city burning Wednesday. “Do you owe citizens and apology for being absent while their homes were burning, and do you regret cutting the Fire Department budget by millions of dollars madame mayor?” Sky News reporter David Blevins asked as Bass waited to deplane. “Have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today?” he added. (Photos) Bass — standing a few feet away on the plane’s ramp as she awaited clearance to leave — stared blankly as Belvins questioned her, refusing to provide an answer or even acknowledge his presence.

Earlier today when I wrote about the wildfires I mentioned that there were reports the hydrants were simply running dry, leaving firefighters no way to battle the flames. FIle this next clip under "too good to check" but apparently this morning one local LA anchor tried to discount what Caruso was saying only to have a reporter contradict him a minute later. That knee-jerk urge to contradict whatever criticism Democrats are getting is one surefire way the media consistently sets its own credibility on fire. By this afternoon,

While much of the nation’s attention has been focused on the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral took place on Thursday. It began with President Donald Trump walking past Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Trudeau’s side-eye was practically a headline in itself. (X)
