Former President Donald Trump proposed Thursday during a campaign rally in Tucson, Arizona, to eliminate taxes on overtime pay should he win the election this November.
Trump called for eliminating taxes on overtime wages for workers who work more than 40 hours a week. The former president said removing such taxes would bolster worker incentives and simplify recruitment for businesses.

My undying, walk-thru-roaches support of PDJT is well known and documented.
While this is a novel, and maybe good, idea, I wish there would be some talk of addressing the debt.

I think it’s a great idea. It will motivate people to have full time jobs and work hard! Also will stimulate the economy and people will feel good about themselves for all the hard work.
It’s a win-win!

I guess I'm in the minority on this. Frankly, I wish he wouldn't do this. To me it's a band aid and smacks of Democrat election gimmicks.
Stick with the big stuff. Close the border. Protect free speech and the entire constitution. Get the economy going again and inflation way down. Clean out the FBI and DOJ. And really make America great again!
THAT is a simple, clear, winning message.

This would be wonderful at my company. The modest wage increases we are able to give to workers cannot keep up with inflation. This would incentivize workers to put in more hours when needed. It would encourage others to return to the workforce, increasing participation. That would make recruitment easier, I believe.
Brilliant idea! Ditto no taxes on tips.

Might not do a thing for the exempt (salaried) worker.

#5, excessive taxation is the beginnings of an oppressive leadership. I firmly believe Donald Trump is taking a look at taxation as an issue because Americans are taxed to the hilt on everything. My goodness, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are talking about taxing unrealized gains. That is telling because not once do they talk about cutting expenses. All of this money going to Ukraine, for example.

I think this would just be abused by companies. I think everyone would be made salary and then be made tou work overtime with no compensation. All government employees would hit the lotto with this working endless overtime and getting rich.

If we stop the government from meddling in areas where the Constitution prohibits it to go, practically all of income tax could be eliminated. Certainly simplified.

I hope this is a drip, drip to eliminating all taxes. He can continue with eliminating taxes on bonuses; that would help those of us who don't get overtime because we're salaried. I work hard to earn a bonus; the government takes its cut before I get mine and wastes it on spending I don't agree with. They throw away money I could use to do something productive with. I'm sure we could fill up this page with suggestions of taxes that can be cut; we're taxed too doggone much! I'd like to see the wealth garnished from every elected official (dead or alive) who ever voted to increase taxes. No legacy wealth for them or their seed. That would be some reparations right there.

The best way to handle the national debt right now is to stop adding to it. It will be a long term problem but stopping the bleeding is most important.

It sounds like a nice idea, but public service workers seem to compile thousands of hours of overtime for lavish annual wages. Are they really working or just clocking? With untaxed overtime it will be that much more alluring.

This would be great. Workers would have more money in their pockets to save and invest or spend. Spending would increase the demand for goods and services, so more people would be employed, cutting unemployment as well increasing the income tax base. Investing would enable companies to borrow money at lower rates so they can borrow more to build more factories, etc.

Good idea, but why do govt. workers seem to earn more than private/public workers? It used to be if you wanted to make more money, you went to work in the public arena. Govt. has gotten too big over-staffed with too many useless workers.
