WASHINGTON — The Senate voted 74-24 early Saturday morning to pass a sweeping $1.2 trillion government funding bill after heated last-minute negotiations caused senators to breach the midnight deadline to avert a shutdown.
But the funding lapse was brief and technical, having no meaningful impact as the White House said it has "ceased shutdown preparations" due to a Senate agreement, which came after Republicans demanded votes on a series of amendments. The legislation, which passed the House on Friday morning by a vote of 268-134, now goes to President Joe Biden, who has said he'll sign it into law. It completes a turbulent government funding process during the divided government,

How much money would be saved if Washington was shutdown (without pay) for one week? Surely the United States would survive a one-week shutdown. How about shutting it down for a week every quarter?
It would not be a disaster. They need to cut spending and everyone knows it.

Thank goodness this was finally passed. I know that everything in the bill is vitally important to our national interests, especially all the earmarks supporting congressional pet projects. These earmarks are vital to our wellbeing, not to mention the billions being spent to help welcome our newcomers. Great work, Congress!

When one backstab wound from the republicans starts to heal, a fresh backstab republican wound instantly appears. Like I said, at some point in the near future, most Americans will finally wake up to the fact that we cannot vote our way back to Freedom.

While politicians point fingers at the rich and call them greedy, it turns out that those in government are the greediest of all. In order to retain power, our elected representatives prepare huge budgets that propose spending for handouts ("bribes") to special interest groups and pet projects that do not serve the overall public interest. Because they don't have any money of their own, they impose more and more taxes ("fees") on those they purport to represent. Unfortunately. their constituents are now so overburdened we're on the verge of bankruptcy. Meanwhile, it's business as usual. It all seems to make no difference to them. So long as they continue to signal their virtue and support endless new projects (Green New Deal, EV mandates, renewable energy sources, etc.) that won't solve any of the REAL problems our nation faces. And having done those things, they'll feel good that they've secured another seat for the next election cycle among perpetual policymaker elites. And as long as the "bread and circuses" continue, the general public will remain somewhat appeased. Meanwhile the nation crumbles, our security is becoming a mere facade, and our culture continues to erode. Term limits aren't the answer. We need to limit the time politicians can meet to create new "laws". Actually, Congress doesn't write laws anymore, they endlessly investigate the other party and use "lawfare" to eliminate any contrary views. The also create the legislative "framework" so that others can create the laws. What they are charged to do by our Constitution, is now delegated legislatively to the regulatory agencies they've created so that they can create the "regulations" that rule our lives. What we need to do is eliminate the regulatory bureaucracy whose regulations have the force of law without the need for those bothersome, inconvenient, nasty elections. Who was it thought that choosing we the people should that would represent us was a good idea? Politicians may come and go, but the unelected regulatory bureaucracy goes on and on. I don't read anywhere in the Constitution allows legislative powers of the Congress to be delegated and managed in perpetuity by regulatory agencies. What a mess we've created and perpetuated over the last 80 years.

And how do 90% of the Republi-Cant's in Congress constantly prove they have spines and cajónes made of Silly Putty?!?!?!?!?
Seriously, if they were going to put our great grandchildren in debt to pay for this monstrosity, why not make it 1.5 trillion $$$'s and fund the freakin' border wall at least?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

More proof that there is only one Uni-party in this country.
The democrats head that party. Republicans are just along for the ride.

The "shutdown" is just the same tired excuse for the traitorous Pubbies to stab us in the back - - once again.
How many times do they expect us to fall for the same slimy dodge?
It's a Uniparty - - and they screw us over at every opportunity.

Well #4, I think it’s because the majority voting are incumbents bought off by interests that stay in lane of status quo. If most House Repubs were a Byron, MTG (yes with her faults), Vance types they would change the process.

You gotta wonder what stuff is 'hidden' in that 1000 page monstrosity...how many pet projects, how much kickback, how much wasted $$$...the only good thing I've seen so far is no pride flags on the staff with American Flags...

Is it time to reinvigorate President Ronald Reagan's plea to have LINE ITEM Veto power over the never-ending adding of PORK to bills?
I'm still wondering how giving MILLIONS of dollars to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the COVID-1984 legislation did ANYTHING to stop or prevent Covid-1984.... that was only ONE example where a line-item veto would have helped.
