The Senate failed to pass a $1.2T government spending package that was approved by the House earlier on Friday, ushering in a partial government shutdown. The upper chamber's Republicans and Democrats did not reach a deal in which they would forego a lengthy period of debate and swiftly take a vote on the spending bills in time to avoid the shutdown. Due to disagreements between the parties on whether to consider several amendments, the bills weren't passed prior to the 12:01 a.m. deadline on Saturday.

I'd really like to know what the agenda is when Congress goes into a new session. Does ANYone make it a point take up work on a new budget on the first day? Week? Month? Or is it part of an agreed-to strategy to simply put it off until there's no time left for debate or scrutiny, and let the accompanying media hysteria over a government shutdown ensure easy passage for everyone's pork? This act is really getting tiresome.

If Americans had the same work ethic as our government overlords, the country would grind to a halt within a few days. Add a complete lack of fiscal responsibility to that mix and we would have complete financial collapse. Until there are men and women of integrity in positions of power we will continue to play these stupid games. Are there any adults in Washington or is that corrupt cesspool on the Potomac filled with toddlers having one tantrum after another. It has become a joke. What serves as leadership is a game of who is the biggest bully that can get their way through any means possible. As long as there are weak men and bullies who have no regard for how our tax dollars are spent as long as they get their way, this will be the way going forward. No one in Washington gives a flying fig about the American people. The Government is defiantly hostile to the people who fund it. The disappointment I feel in Mike Johnson is off the charts. He lied to us and he caved to the democrats actively destroying the country. For that reason alone I would not acquiesce to to anything they want. We are losing the war with these weak fools. While they enjoy the high life, the American people are suffering. To even think about signing onto another monstrosity of a bill is a slap in the face to every hard working American citizen. We are being rolled by both parties while they walk away with the smug satisfaction that they have pulled another fast one on us. I loathe these Republicans who can even think about having a part in the destruction of our country. They steal our vote, our money and send our sons and daughters to die for profit. Mike Johnson, you have betrayed us at the worst possible time and for the worst possible reason. You are no hero. This monstrosity should have been DOA on your desk.

We've seen this song and dance a million times. Non essential government employees get furloughed for a few days. Eventually a CR gets passed and the employees get back pay along with their free vacation. Everyone wins except the taxpayers.

Shut it all down. All essential parts of the govt will continue to operate. Lets all cut the B.S. and shut it all down. Remove all of the pork and return that money back to taxpayers or to the military. And notice 90% of that pork is going to corrupt dems. Shut it down. My father remembers a trip with my grandfather to the U.S. Military Academy in the early 1960s to watch a baseball game. They loved the game, but what struck my grandfather, who served in the Pacific during World War II, was something else. “Watch how they sprint on and off the field,” he said. “Every inning. The best player and the worst. Whatever the score.” I don’t know whether the boys at West Point still sprint on and off the athletic fields. I bet they do. Their generals and the politicians, however, are running in the wrong direction. West Point is dropping “Duty, Honor, Country” from its mission statement

In the aftermath of the George Floyd killing in the summer of 2020, a sea of middle-class white protesters in my former hometown of Denver ritualistically writhed and moaned face-down on the grass for nine minutes in a park. It’s difficult to believe in hindsight that such creepy and transparent virtue-signaling ever took place. But middle-class white liberals were in a tailspin at the time. The often contradictory codes of “woke” social etiquette had knotted their brains; they were simultaneously confused and fighting mad, and above all, they were desperate to appear to be standing on the “right side of history.” So strong was this urge as they packed

Pollster Frank Luntz recently warned that New York Attorney General Letitia James' efforts to seize former President Donald Trump's properties could devastate Democrats in the upcoming election. The ex-president recently failed to secure the $464 million appeal bond he needed in the recent New York civil fraud judgment against him. In a Monday court filing, Trump's legal team said getting the amount of money needed was a "practical impossibility under the circumstances presented." James has threatened to seize Trump's assets and suggested that the former president should secure the entire value by selling off his real estate holdings – which his attorney Clifford S. Robert called "unconstitutional."

He and Nate Silver can see the objective reality of where we are now, yet they have difficulty explaining that to people on the Left. To most of them, they’ve been fighting a war against Trump and MAGA since 2016. It’s unthinkable that anyone in America, let alone a majority, would not feel the same way. This month, the Supreme Court reviewed a trifecta of free speech cases that has government and civil libertarians alike on edge. While each of the cases raises an insular issue, they collectively run across the waterfront of free speech controversies facing this country. For some of us, what was most chilling from oral arguments were the sentiments voiced by justices on the left of the court, particularly Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. The court may now be reflecting the shift among liberal scholars and politicians away from freedom of speech and in favor of greater government speech regulation.

Video of the clash, which was filmed by reporters from the New York Post, quickly went viral. After what appears to be a brief physical altercation, the crowd rushes past the guardsmen.

DW: What role does energy security play in the context of Russian threats towards Chisinau and in upcoming presidential polls being held later this year? Victor Parlicov: The Republic of Moldova was already in a very difficult energy situation in 2021, even before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but has since grown stronger and more resilient. The most significant factor was a decision from Brussels made just three weeks after the beginning of Russia's war on Ukraine:

Some 8 to 10 million illegal aliens from all over the world, as expected, have flooded across the border since President Joe Biden took office. A demagogic candidate Biden, remember, in 2019 invited those massing at the southern border to "surge" into the United States without specifying that they first needed legal sanction: "We immediately surge to the border all those seeking asylum." In contrast, we know legal immigration is America's great strength, but it has always depended on a few key prerequisites. Immigration must be legal and measured. Why? Because only the host nation can adjudicate how many immigrants it can successfully accept and assimilate. It has no desire to encourage Balkanized tribalism

The most important lesson, I suppose, is that there are people -- most often highly neurotic people -- who deliberately create chaos. They violate norms like crediting the work of committees that were designated to analyze what needs to be done and offer solutions for the board to act on, dispiriting those desirous of accomplishing what must be done. They go behind the backs of board members to undercut the systematic workings of the board,
