The SOTU from Hell

The comedian Richard Lewis, of blessed memory, is credited with the formulation “the x from hell.” Having watched President Biden’s State of the Union Address last night in order to comment on it this morning, I found it to be the SOTU from hell. Thank you, Mr. Lewis. The White House has posted the text of the speech “as prepared for delivery.” That isn’t exactly how he gave it. You have to see it to get the full flavor. I have posted the White House video at the bottom. Herewith are my impressions of Biden’s delivery and my observations on the speech in the form of bullet points:

Senile Joe went full, "Crazy Uncle" mode, unleashing a "best of" montage of his worst campaign speeches and worn out bumper-stickers. I was surprised he didn't include his favorite Neil Kinnock quotes that doomed his 1988 presidential campaign. I noticed the Dems would stand and cheer when he began to falter and stutter... just like trained seals.

Can't critique Old Yeller's speech since I didn't watch it. Spent the time feverishly looking for something more interesting such as the old test pattern of the Injun chief that stations used to run when they were off the air. Quid Pro Joe loves to say that some Americans aren't paying their fair share. When, if ever, will he and his assorted crime figures going to pay their fair share? He's never paid a penny in taxes on the 10% kickback he gets from son Snorter's extortion fees.

Shouting is an age-old tactic of the Democrats. I remember Ted Kennedy shouting at a rally in Pittsburgh. That was way back in 1975 when I was a kid. I wondered why he was so angry. Fast forward 50 years, and the same thing with Joe Biden except he was hopped up. Joe's handlers better be careful, or Joe's brains might start leaking out of his head. They are going to OD him someday.

The Democrat attacks on Trump have brought to mind a scene from Star Trek II, The Wrath of Khan--the only really good Star Trek movie ever made. Khan keeps trying to kill Kirk, and he keeps failing despite his supposedly being a superior being. He is bigger, smarter, faster, and a survivor, but somehow can't beat the everyman captain. After yet another failed attempt to kill Kirk, one of the key memorable scenes plays out: (X). What brought this to mind was the results of a Morning Consult/Bloomberg poll of the key swing states, which shows Biden's support in the key swing states pretty much collapsing. DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — A Minnesota state senator and former Twin Cities meteorologist is charged with first-degree burglary after prosecutors say she broke into the home of her stepmother following the recent death of her father. The criminal complaint filed in Becker County Tuesday details the allegations against 49-year-old Nicole Lynn Mitchell, who was arrested at 4:45 a.m. Monday after police say she broke into a home in Detroit Lakes. Squads responded to a 911 call at the home of Mitchell's stepmother, who called police and told them someone was in her home. In that context, Garrow’s comments are also of interest, particularly his outing of Dreams from My Father as a work of fiction. On page 538 of Rising Star, readers learn: "Dreams from My Father was not a memoir or an autobiography; it was instead, in multitudinous ways, without any question a work of historical fiction. A New York judge ruled on Monday that the $175 million bond judgment against former President Donald Trump will remain intact despite New York Attorney General Letitia James's efforts to challenge it. James's legal team argued that the court should nullify Trump's reduced judgment of $175 million in his non-jury civil fraud trial. Her team raised concerns about the ability of Knight Specialty Insurance, the company behind the substantial bond, to actually pay the bond if necessary. That's a rather curious position since she had asked for a much larger $370 million in damages — it's as if the entire point was to achieve a judgment that would be impossible

The American identity and national way of life stand on the brink of total disintegration, dependency, and slavery. The machines of men and demons incrementally ratchet the gears tighter with each passing day, while the people of this nation have steadfastly ignored the warnings and alarms issued by the timeless Scriptures and wisdom of old. There is a great and terrible time of judgment quickly approaching that will overthrow what is left of the American way of life. This nation is sound asleep. The shrewd and subtle ways of evil operate like a dimmer switch turned down on hundred-year increments so that no one notices until things are truly dark.

Many Jewish Americans preparing to celebrate the Passover holiday are still mourning the tragic loss of their brothers and sisters in Israel, who suffered unspeakable crimes at the hands of Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7. Much trauma was relived last weekend when Israel suffered an unprecedented direct attack from Iran. Regrettably, as time has passed since October, the Biden administration has increasingly chosen to sympathize less with the Israelis and more with those opposed to eliminating Hamas. The White House’s reaction to Iran’s attack, immediately urging Israeli restraint, was likewise troubling. President Joe Biden’s initial instincts displayed on Oct. 10,

Working for then Minnesota Senator Walter Mondale in the summer of 1969, I went to hear the late Allard Lowenstein speak to a large group of interns. Lowenstein was serving his only term in Congress before he was gerrymandered out of his district. Lowenstein asked us to go back to our campuses, do our thing in opposition to the Vietnam war, and “eschew violence.” He said the word “eschew” several times, emphasizing its Anglo-Saxon roots. The derivation is more complicated than that, but Lowenstein’s emphasis on it is why I remember what he said. In 1980 Lowenstein was himself murdered by “a deranged acquaintance,” as

Letting the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expire and “stay expired” would be a massive middle-class tax hike because the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was a massive middle-class tax cut. Yes, wealthy people also saw their taxes reduced by the TCJA, but the law actually shifted a greater portion of the tax burden onto the wealthy. The TCJA doubled the child tax credit

Voyager 1 – the most distant human-made object in existence – has been sending back data from interstellar space for nearly 50 years after being launched in 1977. However, in November a glitch occurred that made the spacecraft's data about its environment and the health of its own systems unintelligible to the NASA scientists monitoring it. Famous for snapping photos of Jupiter, Saturn and their moons, Voyager 1 then returned readable communications on April 20, confirming it is still safely cruising outer space.
