NY attorney general sues world's largest
beef producer over methane emissions,
climate commitments

New York Attorney General Letitia James is suing JBS USA, the world's largest producer of beef, over the company's emissions and for "greenwashing" by allegedly misleading the public about its environmental impact. In an announcement, James noted that beef production has the largest greenhouse gas footprint of any major food commodity and that animal agriculture accounts for 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. According to James, JBS USA's various net-zero pledges for 2030 and 2040 are therefore misleading and "not feasible" given the scope of its worldwide beef production operations.

Comments:

What grounds does she have to file this lawsuit? Is JBS incorporated in NY? She thinks because her office "won" against Donald Trump she can take on everything??

Instead our primary voters keep returning the same squishes to power in every bright red district and wonder why things are going south. now that would be the pathway to civil war. New York can't pay its pensions so it will sue everybody else for thisnthat. Eyup, that will do it, Letitia James. That will indeed tear the country apart. In no way are the beef producers of all over the place going to fill New York coffers which are empty due to cowardice, partisanship, and overpromises to allies.

This woman, fresh off her “victory “ over Trump is now going after big meat. Letitia James is a fat (literally) fool. The fastest way to start a war is to starve people. This is all a plan to “cut America down to size.” The rot stats at the top and the top is the Democrat Party! The world is reaping the poison the Democrats sow and Republicans are to blame for not teaching conservatism continually when in power. If they did, they would keep a lid on Democrats’ screwing things up.

JBS USA Holdings, Inc. is a meat processing company and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Brazilian multinational JBS S.A. The subsidiary was created when JBS entered the U.S. market in 2007 with its purchase of Swift & Company. JBS USA is based in Greeley, Colorado. Its competitors include Hormel Foods, Cargill, Smithfield Foods, and Tyson Foods From the JBS website: Five Initial Steps to Reach Net Zero 1) Invest more than $1 billion in upgrading facilities and equipment by 2030. 2) Invest $100 million in research and development projects by 2030. 3) Reduce emissions in all JBS facilities by 30% by 2030. 4) Use 100% renewable electricity by 2040. 5) Tie environmental performance to executive compensation to ensure accountability. She's barking up a company based in Colorado, has LOTS of lawyers or can hire as many as they need. JBS should stop allowing any of their products to enter NYC and surrounding area, and refrain from shipping anything to the DNC convention in Chicago this August.

If you throw enough ##### at the wall, some of will stick. The WHOLE basis of the law suite lottery system we have. Just keep suing until you win ! It costs her NOTHING ( most of the grunt work it handled by staff / underlings ) to sue. There is no penalty for failure, Eventually the defendant will run out of money ( lawyers can be expensive ! ) because the defendant can be sued ENDLESSLY by people who get paid, the same amount whether or not they win a case. Somebody better put the brakes on or this could get very interesting as well as dangerous !

James is suing JBS for setting goal that are still 7 to 13 years out because she feels that they might not achieve these goals? They are goals. They did not promise to achieve these goals. The set goals and actions to take to meet them. Maybe they will meet them, maybe they won't. Who knows. Either way, nobody is injured/hurt if they do not make their goals. Any effort made towards meeting their goals is good. James is overstepping here and needs to be smacked down by a judge for treading where she does not belong.
