Based on today’s oral arguments, it
will probably be a decision for Trump

As I expected and predicted, the Supreme Court will probably decide the Trump/Colorado case in favor of Trump. I doubt the decision will be unanimous. On the liberal side, Justice Sotomayor was outspoken in her questions to Trump’s lawyer (Jonathan Mitchell who was arguing his sixth Supreme Court case). Justice Kagan’s questions, too, suggest to me that she will come down against Trump.

14th Amendment, Section 5: "The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article." In other words, not just anybody can bring a lawsuit to disqualify a presidential candidate; it must be somebody designated by Congress and in a proceeding designed by Congress. Not even a high falutin' secretary of state. The is no such US legislation. I must be missing something for all the pundits to take seriously this extra-legal - outlaw - action by the Colorado Secrete-ary of State. If I want to sue someone for the money they owe me, I don't go to the Secretary of State; why? Because the Secretary of State has not been empowered to make such determinations, not even money owed between 2 candidates. The Secretary of State has not been empowered to enforce Section 3 of the 14th amendment. It is common sense that the several states should not be empowered to allow or disallow federal candidates based on the US Constitution in any manner they wish. Maybe I'll be schooled.

Everyone already knows how the liberals will vote on this. They are a disgrace to the law as written and will hold President Trump as guilty of insurrection because they SAY so, not because he was ever charged or convicted or it in an actual court of law. It makes me sick to think that these people are even allowed to be judges of any kind.

Re #2, some lawyer, I didn't catch the name, being interviewed on Fox Business TV, and I occasionally listen to that on my sat radio in the car. He said something close to what you commented, saying "The Amendment is not self-executing. Congress can pass a law, but they have not, so the only question is whether this will be a 6-3 or 8-1 or 9-0 opinion." I tend to agree with your point. CAN Congress exclude a person CONVICTED of insurrection? Yes, they could. But they have not even written a bill, let alone debated and passed it into law. The Colorado Clown Court is populated by legal ignoramuses who are just political hacks.

In such a highly politically charged case as this one is it will be interesting to see if the court’s decision falls with the Democrat Judges deciding against Trump and the supposed Republican Judges deciding for Trump no matter the contorted meaning of the Civil War era 14th Amendment.

Sotomayor is. a moron, of whom anything might be expected. But if Kagan votes against Trump, it's a scary sign of elite madness. This vote should be 9-0.

Lawyering is hard work. First, you have to get a college degree. OK, that’s not hard work; that’s a four-year summer camp these days. But then you have to get into law school. Once in law school, you waste three years being taught a lot of BS, but they never teach taught how to practice law. I got an ‘A’ in Property Law but was never taught how to buy a house. I got an ‘A’ in Contract Law but never drafted – or even read – a contract. I got an ‘A’ in Civil Procedure but was never taught when to stand up

In 2008, the United States Supreme Court decided in the Heller case that the Second Amendment right to bear arms applies not just to militias, but also to individual people. While militias are mentioned in the Amendment, the noun to which the right is granted is the “people.” Individuals are “people.” After Heller, much teeth-gnashing and garment-rending ensued from the left. They had hoped that the second Amendment applied only to militias. There being essentially no legal militias in the country anymore, that would mean the Second Amendment would apply to nobody.

Yesterday, the special prosecutor (technically called a “special counsel” these days, a term which obfuscates in my opinion) released his report on his investigation of Joe Biden’s mishandling of classified documents. (It was not a good day for the Democrats. On the same day, the Supreme Court signaled in oral argument that they intend to smack down four publicity-hungry Colorado Supreme Court justices/activists who canceled Donald Trump from the Colorado ballot. My condolences to those four partisan hacks whose 15 minutes of fame is about to expire. And my congratulations to the three spirited dissenters on that same court, who’ve been vindicated.)

Immediately upon taking office, Joe Biden reversed President Trump’s “stay-in-Mexico” policy. Under that policy, immigrants seeking asylum were required to stay in Mexico or their home country while applying for asylum in the United States. The alternative – followed by the preceding Obama Administration – is for the immigrants to enter the country with the proviso that they have to show up for a hearing some months or years in the future to determine their asylum claim. Of course, many immigrants never showed up for their hearings, and simply remained in the country illegally.

Remember when America’s great cities were great? San Francisco, New York, Chicago and other major cities were centers of art, culture, wealth, sophistication, and shopping. Now, the cities are overrun with vagrants. Liberal judges decided that people have a Constitutional right (see, Martin v. Boise) to camp on the sidewalks and poop in the gutter, because stopping them from doing so constitutes cruel and unusual punishment for violating the laws that prohibit them from doing so.

The governor of Texas says his state is being “invaded” and that under the Constitution he has the right to defend his border. On the first point, millions of people are indeed unlawfully crossing the border into Texas. Joe Biden refuses to do anything about it. In fact, he seems to be encouraging it. He stopped construction of Donald Trump’s border wall, reversed the “stay in Mexico” policy which required immigrants seeking asylum to remain in Mexico pending a decision by American authorities, and, to the extent he accidentally catches illegal immigrants, he usually lets them go

Sensational rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud appeared for an interview over the weekend immediately after leading his Houston Texans to a playoff win. The exhausted, battered, victorious 22-year-old opened with these words: “First and foremost, I just want to give all glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.” The game was carried by NBC. They posted Stroud’s postgame interview but, predictably, edited out his opening statement – the very statement that the player himself said was “first and foremost” to him and his terrific game. Stroud is Black. It used to be that liberals tolerated Black displays of religion because they thought such displays were cute

Back in the good old days of Roe v. Wade (unless you were a fetus) we paid poor people to have abortions. Ok, we didn’t pay the money directly to them, but instead paid it through Medicaid to their abortionist. Abortions that were not paid for by Medicaid were almost always paid for by private insurance or were done for free at abortion clinics as a “public service.” It’s safe to say that the killing of hardly any babies was paid for by the mother, except perhaps in a lifelong emotion way. That’s the way we set up the system. We didn’t want such women to have babies.

This president’s son, who has absolutely no business skills and typically is not even sober, has collected tens of millions from foreign governments and businessmen. Some of that money has found its way through labyrinth shell corporations and into the hands of the “Big Guy.” Some of it has not found its way into the hands of the Internal Revenue Service, though it should have. Republicans want to learn more about this.

The Biden administration is reportedly taking its goal of a temporary cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war to the U.N. Security Council as early as Tuesday. The administration is said to have proposed a draft U.N. Security Council resolution which in part would call for a temporary cease-fire and call on Israel not to go into Rafah in the Gaza Strip. According to Reuters, the U.S. text states in part that it "determines that under current circumstances a major ground offensive into Rafah would result in further harm to civilians and their further displacement including potentially into neighboring countries."

Many gasped recently when Donald Trump said he’d encourage Russia “to do whatever the hell they want” with NATO allies who don’t pay their share of the transatlantic alliance’s defense spending. It was a brazen but hardly surprising turn from someone who has shown a long and loyal affection for Russian President Vladimir Putin, a wanted war criminal. Trump has called Putin — a former KGB agent who jails and murders critics — smart, savvy, and his friend. Trump sided with Putin after a U.S. intelligence community assessment found Russia meddled in the 2016 election. More troubling, in 2017 Trump shared highly classified intelligence with the Russian ambassador.

Joe Biden is starting to ride back his committments on forcing the transition to electric vehicles (EVs). According to a report from The New York Times, Biden's administration is giving up on its targets for production of EVs in an apparent "concession" to automakers and labor unions. The plan is also said to be an election ploy as Democrats fear losing the support of automakers and labor unions: Instead of essentially requiring automakers to rapidly ramp up sales of electric vehicles over the next few years, the administration would give car manufacturers more time, with a sharp increase in sales not required until after 2030, these people said.

Migrants are arriving from all over the world, including from geopolitical adversaries like China and Afghanistan. Few are vetted, meaning their health, criminal, education, vocations, literacy, and motivations are unknown. Anyone can ask for political asylum, as they are coached to do. To federal border agents, they are a massive herd of cattle, and it’s all they can do just to get them across the border, feed and hydrate them, and put them on plane to Denver, New York, or Chicago. Kathy Hochul’s Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) modified its Safety Net Assistance (SNA) program’s parameters in 2023, making migrants who have filled out asylum application forms eligible to receive even more taxpayer dollars. A memo quietly sent out to New York welfare office workers from the Hochul administration on May 12, 2023, carefully revised the standards needed to qualify for SNA, expanding them to include “non-citizens who are considered permanently residing under color of law (PRUCOL).”
