'Roots' Star LeVar Burton Stunned to Learn

Perhaps more investigations into personal ancestries will help calm the pathological madness at the root of modern racial obsessions. On Tuesday’s episode of PBS’ “Finding Your Roots,” host Henry Louis Gates Jr. sprang a shocking surprise on LeVar Burton, who rose to fame as a young actor in the legendary 1977 slavery-themed miniseries “Roots.” Based on DNA tests and extensive historical research, Burton, who is black, learned that he had a white great-great-grandfather who served in the Confederate Army’s junior reserves.

I guess he'll have to pay himself reparations. I wonder if it's tax deductible? I wonder what he'll think when he finds out that the party he is allegiant to- the Dims- was the party that promoted slavery, started a Civil War to preserve it, enacted jim crow to institutionalize racism, and formed the KKK to terrorize it opponents.

There were blacks that fought for the Confederacy and blacks that owned slaves. Of course, that bit of info isn't allowed out in public since it would damage the narrative.

FTA: “I often wonder about white men of the period and how they justified to themselves their relations with black women, especially those in an unbalanced power dynamic,” Burton said. Too bad he doesn’t wonder about black men doing the exact same things to black women today.

Hahaha, no reparations for YOU, LeVar! It's only a matter of time before one of these black actors finds out that he/she is descended from a black slave owner. Yes, they existed, and plenty of them in fact. There was one man, a freed slave himself, in Louisiana who owned 130 slaves, according to historical records. Fortunately, the U.S. government was keeping pretty good records at the time for census and tax purposes, otherwise this bit of "inconvenient history" might be lost down the "memory hole."

Just because he played Kunta Kente in "Roots," he's not a real African off the ship. White and Confederate. That's gotta hurt, LeVar. More than likely, he's secretly proud. I can't understand black people who worry so much about what white people think about them. And they call me a koon.

I like this Gates guy. He forgets his home keys, climbs into his window and thinks it's racism because some innocent bystander thought that it was suspicious and called 911. Then he flips out on a white cop doing his job who made the mistake of quickly responding to protect property. Lucky when the moron went Harvard crazy the cop cleverly hit his radio key knowing it would all be recorded at Headquarters. That saved his career as Gates made a call to his buddy Obama, who of course acted before the facts and declared the cops stupid. Cops in urban America have learned that minus a crystal ball they have to avoid as many criminals as they can.

The fact of the matter is almost all "African-Americans" have white ancestors. The few that didn't likely arrived here, or their ancestors did, after 1865, which means their ancestors did not suffer from slavery in this country.

Mr. Schwarz call for humility is certainly admirable when trudging through incomplete and in a lot of cases distorted history. But it will fall on deaf ears. Especially where money is involved. The racist bigoted Mr. Burton new found granddaddy did fight for the Confederacy that did want to maintain Antebellum. History and facts sometimes belie truth. 90% of the Rebs had no dog in the fight for slavery existence . Their fight was for the Homeland against the "evil" invading hordes from a foreign world ...the North. There were even black Americans on their side.

More of this type of program should be required in all African-American studies classes. One explanation for his white ancestry is there was an attraction and you're likely very remote areas with nature taking it's course. Or, since legal importation of slaves was outlawed, some owners took it upon themselves to.... Researching your family history can illuminate many things, but I find it very interesting when you realize the obstacles so many faced as they "marched West", in particular.

I know that this show discusses controversial information with its guests before filming. Burton had to be willing to have this infomation broadcast or they wouldn't have shown the episode. So I applaud Burton for standing up and acknowledging his ancestor. As someone said here, it would be good if he would now investigate his ancestor as an individual and see how well he fits the Confederate stereotype. In the article, Mr. Schwarz referred to Burton's ancestor as a member of the "Confederate Army’s junior reserves." Any of you Rebs out there know what that is all about? If the Confederacy started the war with a "junior reserve", by 1864, all age groups were involved. At 17 in 1864, Burton's ancestor was just about the right age, anyway. (Yeah, and at 17, I'm sure he had deep philosophical discussions with himself about the fundamental reasons for the war and whether the virtually universal practice of slavery was moral or ethical. But maybe he did, and I'm just stereotyping 17-year-old boys.)

Being 6.25% white is enough for many blacks to view him as not black, and being 93.75% black makes him not white, from the perspective of most whites. His behavior seems mostly white, complicating that assessment.

In retrospect, perhaps Fani Willis should have kept her mouth shut. Yesterday, the embattled Fulton County DA filed a motion in the Wade v Wade divorce action asking to quash a subpoena for her testimony. Rather than just argue that her testimony would be irrelevant in a case where both spouses agree that the marriage was “irretrievably broken” — certainly an arguable position — Willis accused Jocelyn Wade of “obstruction” of her prosecution of Donald Trump et al. And then Willis went one step further in accusing Mrs. Wade of infidelity as the cause of the divorce. Big mistake. Big, big mistake. And when I say “big,” I mean monumental:

Ok, we didn’t pay the money directly to them, but instead paid it through Medicaid to their abortionist. Abortions that were not paid for by Medicaid were almost always paid for by private insurance or were done for free at abortion clinics as a “public service.” It’s safe to say that the killing of hardly any babies was paid for by the mother, except perhaps in a lifelong emotion way. That’s the way we set up the system. We didn’t want such women to have babies.
