The Methodist Church of Great Britain has called on its ministers, deacons, and elders to stop using offensive terminology such as “husband” and “wife” to avoid making assumptions that are not “the reality for many people.”
The church added the changes to its “Inclusive Language Guide,” an initiative aimed at preventing the use of “hurtful language” directed at groups the Methodist Church believes have been “marginalised and/or demonised by common culture.” The church plans to update the Inclusive Language Guide every six months to avoid using language that could offend groups it perceives as marginalized.

My 2024 New Year's resolution is to "offend" as much as humanly possible.
That and clean out the garage.

Have the glorious leaders of that church lost their minds? Obviously, they have not read the Bible and is refers to husband and wife a few times and until lately it is in the marriage vows. Are they trying to dive any sane members of the church away?

The Methodist Church in Great Britain, like every church in Great Britain, has been dying if not dead for years. England is a godless nation.

I'm so glad I left the United Methodist Church over 45 years ago.
The minister was singing John Denver songs or reading the jokes from Readers' Digest for his sermons.
I went to a wedding at a Bible-believing, Bible-preaching church and scales fell off my eyes. I have thanked this bride and groom for the eternal change they made in my life.

I wonder just how many members the Methodist Church of Great Britain excpects to gain or retain by this. Gain or retain, I'd say total membership will drop.... but the church virtue-signalled, so isn't that just great?

Like other posters mentioned, we left our Methodist Church about a year ago. The leftist bishops in our conference made it clear that it was their way or the highway so we took the highway. The United Methodist Church has lost over 7,000 congregations due to their arrogance and demands that we ignore the Wesleyan Covenant, the basis of our faith, and start performing gay marriages and installing gay ministers. We will either join a church that is part of the conservative Global Methodist Church or join the conservative Presbyterian Church here. As many have said, leftists destroy everything they touch.

The church has survived a nearly continual series of divisive heresies since its beginning. Arianism, Donatism, Gnosticism, et al. The unseen unity of souls within the mystical body is of the Holy Spirit and persists in hardship through the Holy Spirit. Faith in Christ will survive gender ideology, too, God willing...

We have gone from what was what was considered to being offensive, to being accepted, to now being something that we need to apologize and change common culture that has been the norm for thousands of years. Accomadating and accepting members of the LGBTQ community is one thing. Having to change language like "man and wife" because some might find it offensive is taking things a little too far.

The national level "church leaders" of most of the churches have been taken over by extremists who are neither religious or Biblical. Political extremists pretending to be religious leaders pervert ALL the teachings of morality and religion of most of our religions today.
Ignoring the "national leaders" and stopping their funding is critical to survival of our churches, so heavily infiltrated by leftist destroyers.
And even the Catholic church has a "pope" who is not a Christian, and certainly not a Catholic.

So, am I to assume that language that is offensive to heterosexuals is fine and dandy??
Appeasing and pandering to any minority is never wise ~ especially a minority who may not be churchgoers or even religious. I have to wonder if the GB Methodist Church just Bud Lighted itself.

I work with a man who is a good Methodist and I asked him if the church he attends has split with the main church over the wokeness that has crept in. He said yes. I'm glad to hear it.

Time for all decent people to walk away from that organization.
By the way, do not say "gay" when the correct term is homosexual.
"Gay" used to mean happy and innocent, like a small child's birthday party, then the Perverts stole it for their perverted use.
When you use the Left's words in a discussion, you concede to their view as soon as you start talking.

So what? Is there really a Methodist CHURCH anymore? I doubt it. The so called Protestant denominations are merely empty shells where people gather to socialize, they certainly have nothing to do with God or prayer. "Gatherings of Nitwits" would be the best way to describe them.
At least the Catholic Church has a rebellious faction which is fighting the communist who is trying to destroy it.

While every church, faith, religion has undergone a "Reformation" at one point or another(except Islam) this particular church deciding that THEY will do so every 6 months is...uhm...."windblown" behavior, certainly not deep abiding historical Faith teaching.

#28~ In more than 20 years of reading comments written by Ldotters respecting the dignity and discipline of this salon, cannot remember having read a more offensive, misinformed, judgmental condemnation of a BRANCH of Christianity than what has been written in #28. There are some Protestant DENOMINATIONS with doctrines and practices that are questionable, however, a sweeping condemnation of the BRANCH of Protestantism is grossly, shamefully inaccurate.
Catholics & The Reformation – With sincere respect for Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ, the repeated aura of denunciation and derision toward Martin Luther and The Reformation is unwarranted.
Detaching one’s self from personal allegiance to Catholicism to consider the reality that God used a variety of people to bring about His will is well-documented in Scripture. (Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Rahab, Samson, David, Paul, Peter) God used Moses to bring The Ten Commandments to the people of Israel and God used Jesus to bring two new Commandments, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. It is not unreasonable to consider the reality that God may have used Martin Luther to bring about The Reformation, and there is no way any mortal man can, with absolute certainty, reject the possibility that God may have chosen Martin Luther for that purpose. Reality: Criticizing Martin Luther and The Reformation may be criticizing God’s will.
Numerous Catholics have posted their disappointments and criticisms of Pope Francis for a variety of reasons with the view that “this too shall pass” when a new pope is named. In that perspective, Martin Luther was no different—he had disappointments and criticisms for things he observed as a Monk but chose not to risk the adherence to, reverence for, and preservation of God’s Word as written in Scripture to be set aside with disregard and ultimately revived the Gospel message in Europe: “Sinners are justified through faith in Christ Jesus and through His grace alone.” Martin Luther was not a heretic and his theology not heretical.
