Mariah Carey's iconic festive hit, All I Want For Christmas Is You, has won millions of fans across the world with its feel-good lyrics and music video. The 1994 track shoots to the top of the charts every Christmas - with Carey proudly dubbing herself 'the Queen of Christmas' and making an estimated $3million off the track every year. However, the fraught backstory to the track means it has lost a touch of its festive sparkle - as Carey was slammed in December 2022 by the song's co-writer Walter Afanasieff for allegedly 'spinning a tall tale' about composing the track as a child on a keyboard.

Comments:

With the radio industry controlled by just a handful of conglomerates, there's just a few music directors who dictate what we hear. This year I noticed that some of my favorite Christmas songs have disappeared from the playlists of these conglomerate stations: "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Band Aid, "White Christmas" by Drifters and "2000 Miles" by Chrissie Hynde. There's two notable Christmas songs I didn't hear ONE TIME on any local radio station -- "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" by Bruce Springsteen and "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)" by John Lennon. I certainly miss the days when radio stations were owned locally.

She's lost her voice, too. Heard a brief video of her singing last year. She sounded terrible.

"Do They Know It's Christmas" by Band Aid,....uhm NO! they do not, the places they were singing about were nearly all muslim or even animist locales. Run by virulently anti christian(and jewish) if not outright anti-religionist "Revolutionary" Govts.

Christmas is banned in North Korea, but that is not stopping a group of activists from sending messages of hope, faith and freedom to the people suffering under the dictatorship of Kim Jong Un. [SNIP] In fact, in 1907, in Pyongyang, there were so many Christians who believed in Jesus that Pyongyang became known as a Holy City. But when Kim II Sung came to power, he wanted North Koreans to worship him as a god, and not the one true God. So, he killed many Christian leaders, sent others to political prison camps, or banished them.

Pope Francis turned 87 on Sunday, closing out a year that saw big milestones in his efforts to reform the Catholic Church as well as health scares that raise questions about his future as pope. Francis celebrated his birthday with cake during a festive audience with children Sunday morning, and there were “Happy Birthday” banners in St. Peter’s Square during his weekly noon blessing. One early present came Saturday, when a Vatican tribunal handed down a mix of guilty verdicts and acquittals in a complicated trial that Francis had supported as evidence of his financial reforms. The biggest-name defendant, Cardinal Angelo Becciu, was convicted of embezzlement.

Church of England priests offered officially sanctioned blessings of same-sex partnerships for the first time on Sunday, though a ban on church weddings for gay couples remains in place amid deep divisions within global Anglicanism over marriage and sexuality. In one of the first ceremonies, the Rev. Catherine Bond and the Rev. Jane Pearce had their union blessed at St John the Baptist church, in Felixstowe, eastern England, where both are associate priests. The couple knelt in front of Canon Andrew Dotchin, who held their heads..."

A rural California ski resort's plans to install a 20-foot statue of the Virgin Mary has left some irate and pushing back against the Christian symbol they say disrespects the area's rich Native American history. "Virgin Mary at a ski resort makes no sense, keep religion out of skiing," one critic wrote, echoing the complaints of multiple others. "As a lifelong skier of this park and mountain that holds a dear place in so many peoples' hearts, I am severely disappointed by the choice to erect a giant statue of the Virgin Mary…" another said. Scientists have developed the world's first mind-reading AI that translates brainwaves into readable text. It works using a sensor-covered helmet that looks at specific electrical activity in the brain as the wearer thinks, and turns these into words. The revolutionary tech was pioneered by a team at the University of Technology Sydney, who say it could revolutionize care for patients who have become mute due to a stroke or paralysis. A demonstration video shows a human subject thinking about a sentence shown on a screen, which then switched to what the AI model decoded - and the results are nearly a perfect match.

He said that he "did not walk out from D.C. with any level of optimism that anything is going to drastically change."

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews said that dealing with angry rural Americans is similar to combating terrorism on “Morning Joe” Tuesday. Matthews highlighted the importance of anger in mobilizing voters during elections as he drew the analogy. He said rural Americans harbor a deep-seated anger toward liberal elites and then seemed to liken it to the sentiments of terrorists in Afghanistan and Iraq following the U.S. military presence there. “This is rural rage. They are so angry at the liberal establishment, the coastal elite, they look at people on television … ‘They don’t have to worry about us,’” Matthews stated.

That’s according to the latest I&I/TIPP poll of likely voters, which finds that 58% say they aren’t better off than they were four years ago – before the COVID-19 pandemic – while only 34% say they are. Upon hearing the notion that Michelle Obama may be the presidential candidate for Democrats in 2024, many Republicans reflexively recite the mantra that she is enjoying her life and is not political. Let me make one thing clear: Michelle Obama is a political animal. Republicans must quickly begin to prepare for her candidacy. Michelle grew up as the daughter of a Chicago Democrat party precinct captain. She has written about making the rounds with her father from age 4, visiting homes in her area to get out the black vote for the white liberal Chicago Democrat party machine.
