Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was denied United States Secret Service (USSS) protection for the third time, according to a letter obtained by Deseret News. Kennedy’s campaign confirmed Friday the credibility of the letter which allegedly showed Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas had signed off on rejecting Kennedy’s request, according to the outlet.

Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom criticized a proposal to kick former President Donald Trump off the ballot in California days after the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that the former president could not be on the ballot in the Centennial State.
Newsom claimed on Friday that Trump was a threat to democracy, but indicated that he did not support Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis’ request to California’s secretary of state to follow Colorado and move to kick Trump off the ballot. (snip)

The outgoing governor of Louisiana has pardoned 56 inmates since October of this year, including dozens of convicted murderers. (snip) "For as long as I can remember, Louisiana reflexively responded to an increase in crime by putting more people in prison and keeping them there longer," Edwards told Louisiana news outlet NOLA.com this week. "We've never been made safer as a result of that," Edwards said. "There is no data to suggest that an increase in crime here was because of the reforms."

Shelitha Robertson, an attorney and former Atlanta police officer who once ran for office as a Democrat to become a superior court judge, was found guilty by a federal jury in Georgia on Tuesday of fraudulently obtaining over $7 million in Paycheck Protection Program loans.
According to prosecutors, Robertson used the money to buy a Rolls-Royce, a motorcycle, and even a $148,000 10-carat diamond ring, among other things. Robertson received PPP loans for her multiple companies even though only one was operational at the time, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

President Biden ordered strikes on three locations in Iraq after three U.S. service members were wounded, one critically, in an attack early Christmas morning credited to a militia group backed by Iran.
In a statement Monday, National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said Biden directed the strikes against three facilities used by Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated groups, which claimed credit for the initial attack against U.S. personnel. The groups, the U.S. said, are all connected to Iran.
The U.S. attack was carried out by a one-way attack drone, according to the statement, which said the three locations were “focused specifically on unmanned aerial drone activities.”
