Reports from local media say children's hospitals are "overwhelmed" with sick children, but Chinese authorities say a surge in sickness is a result of known illnesses circulating more widely after COVID restrictions lifted. Here is what we know so far. China has seen an uptick in respiratory illness and clusters of undiagnosed pneumonia in children. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has asked China for more detailed information about the increase in respiratory disease.

Since China has virtually no pollution controls on its industry, the air pollution caused by the industrial output may be the cause of this illness. Especially if it's affecting children more than adults.

I wonder if this is related to Covid? I recall reading that although children are "Covid factories" in terms of producing the virus, they rarely caught the disease. Maybe one of the Covid variants is infecting children on wide scale?

Little Boy Xi's Zero COVID policy killed the immune systems of the Chinese people. If you're never exposed to anything, you can't build up immunity to anything. Now after three years of Xi"s stupidity, the Chinese people are now contracting every disease under the sun. That's one reason why I refused to stay home during lockdown and wore the damned face diaper only when absolutely necessary, and why I likely never caught COVID and to this day never come down with anything more than mild cold.

Many brilliant and funny people have already weighed in on the terrible, manipulative, and silly film streaming on Netflix that Barack and Michelle Obama had a hand in producing, Leave the World Behind. One has only to read some of the over a thousand comments on Rotten Tomatoes, where 75% of the critics liked it, and only 39% of audiences did, to see mockery at its very best. There are also 851 comments on IMDB that make for amusing reading. Andrea Widburg’s column here at AT is also a comic takedown. Sure, a few people liked it.

Our border is broken, inflation and crime are breaking Americans, and wars are breaking out all over. Still, the Biden administration is keeping its eye on the ball—and the ball, as Biden made clear during his now-famous speech given against an ominous blood-red background, is to destroy “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans,” whom he characterized as “represent[ing] an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.” In Biden-world, the best way to recognize these American “Nazis” (for that’s what he’s calling them) is to identify and arrest everyone who showed up in D.C. on January 6, 2021. The latest victim is Siaka Massaquoi.

The video captures the unsettling scene of police hurling not one, not two, but three concussion grenades into an apparently peaceful crowd at the Capitol on January 6. In this eye-opening footage, the peaceful atmosphere is shattered by the deafening blasts of concussion grenades. It made me wonder, "Why hasn't this been shown?" It's the kind of reality check that sends shivers down your spine. But here's the kicker: the January 6 Committee, the supposed guardians of truth in the aftermath of the Capitol insurrection, has kept this video, and probably many others, under wraps. The Jan. 6, 2021, narrative was that the Capitol had seemingly turned into a battlefield,

I find myself thinking of a six-year-old boy called Desmond I met in Turkana county, Kenya, who died from severe acute malnutrition on the same day. I want the negotiators deciding the outcome of Cop28 to know Desmond’s story. Because in the end, the climate crisis is not about pledges, statistics, reports or activists. The nearly 200 member countries gathered at the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai agreed to transition away from fossil fuels “in a just, orderly and equitable manner” before entirely eliminating carbon emissions by 2050. Ron DeSantis is running as the true-blue conservative in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. And he's learning the hard way that Republicans don't nominate true-blue conservatives. As Donald Trump leads every poll by double-digits, the Florida governor who seemed such a promising prospect just a year ago is now at risk of falling to third place. If Nikki Haley bests DeSantis in Iowa, his 2024 campaign won't be the only casualty; his hopes of ever becoming president will dim, and rivals won't fear him as they look to '28 or '32. How did DeSantis go from a 19-point reelection only a year ago to a fight for his political life today?
