A train derailed and spilled chemicals in a remote part of eastern Kentucky on Wednesday, prompting officials to encourage residents of a small town to evacuate. Gov. Andy Beshear said in a statement that local officials in Rockcastle County were encouraging residents of Livingston, with a population of about 200, to evacuate. In a news release, railroad operator CSX said that the derailment occurred a little before 2:30 p.m. local time north of Livingston and involved at least 16 cars. Two cars containing sulfur were "breached" and some of the sulfur caught fire, CSX said, indicting that sulfur dioxide gas was being released into the air.

From a video of the Palistine wreck before it fell off of the track, I didtinctly remember seeing a video of the train BEFORE it de-railed and one of the wheels was on fire, litterly on fire before the derailment. Flames were quite visable and about two feet high. This is just one reason as to why you need a manned caboose to catch these so-called hot boxes.

Not a single word in the entire article about the possible cause. As if derailments are perfectly normal. Nor curiosity about the cause at all. Listen to what they don't say.

Wasn't Joe supposed to spend a few trillion dollars on infrastructure, which would include replacing many old sets of rails? He must have found something else on which to spend it. Don't worry, folks, Mitch and Joe will be around to visit, as soon as the weather warms up a bit.

Actually derailments are a lot more common than you think. They never make news unless the is toxic chemicals are involved or people are killed. Looks like CXS has jumped on this right away. I have had dealings with both CXS and Norfolk Southern. NS is by far the most difficult to work with.

Fortunately, while burning sulphur is pretty nasty, it is easily extinguished and harmless without being on fire, almost inert as a powder. More a nuisance cleanup once they extinguish it.

Since we're never told the truth about anything, My gut says we have too many derailments and chemical spills lately. ( BTW isn't this an argument for underground pipelines?)

Re #14, I did some checking and the long term average for derailments is about 1,400 per year, which comes out to around 3.5 per day average. So, we hear about a nasty one every few months, so that would seem to indicate that the nasty ones are something like 1 in 300 to 1 in 500 range. Not likely to change.

The Disney Grooming Syndicate’s annual SEC report tried to bury its foundational problems in the word salad of all word salads. Thankfully, That Park Place saw right through it. The key takeaway from the report is that Disney, as required by law in these filings, is warning investors that its social goals are more important than profits. “There is in such things a statement of the various ‘Risk factors’ the company may encounter,” explains That Park Place, “all in the obligatory legal way to avoid people later saying ‘You never warned us about this!!’” In other words, in this annual report, Disney must warn stockholders and potential stockholders

Even as hostages were finally released on Friday, marking the start of a four-day ceasefire, President Joe Biden was already hard at work kneecapping Israel and giving Hamas new life. Hours after a press conference in which he claimed Hamas attacked Israel on October 7th because he was about to secure peace in the Middle East, Biden spoke to reporters again. This time, he directly stated that the first ceasefire was "just a start" and claimed that there was a "real" chance the truce could be extended. US President Joe Biden said Friday's release of a first group of hostages taken by Hamas was just a "start" and that there

The Israel-Hamas war has brought with it increasing displays of antisemitism in the Western world. In response, many individuals and organizations opposing anti-Jewish bigotry have stood up to combat those who inflame hatred against the Jewish people. Unfortunately, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is not one of those entities. The BBC is prohibiting Jewish employees from participating in an antisemitism awareness march, citing concerns about impartiality and bias. The BBC is facing criticism from some Jewish staff who feel they have been banned from attending a march against antisemitism.

The protest occurred at Tuchin's home in Brentwood, California. Protestors wore black masks and hoods and called Tuchin a "baby killer." "AIPAC spends tens of millions to control members of Congress who support genocide," the protesters shouted. Neighbors outraged at the vandalism and disruption confronted the protestors, leading to clashes which ended with the intervention of the police.

Since the first Thanksgiving on Plymouth Rock and its subsequent establishment as a day of thanks on Oct. 3, 1789, the recipient of that thanks on behalf of the United States of America has always been God. But in keeping with the destruction of everything good and virtuous in this nation, this year, God has been removed as the recipient of thanks on Thanksgiving. On Wednesday, President Biden released his Thanksgiving proclamation for 2023. For the first time in American history, the proclamation completely omitted any reference to God or faith.
