Prominent car rental company reneges on
promises of an EV fleet citing ‘twice’

American Thinker is fortunate enough to have a number of friends around the world, and one of those friends, an Aussie, sent me a story with this lede from the JoNova blog: Hertz was aiming to make 25% of its fleet electric by 2024, but is finding 11% is too much. Given there are whole nations pushing for 100% EV by 2035 there seems to be a message here… The original item came from a car outlet, and reported that Hertz was dialing back on promises the company had made to transition [snip] to rechargeable ones, citing “higher than expected repair costs and price cuts.”

Comments:

There is absolutely NOTHING that the fools at Hertz could do to get me to rent one of these things, including if it was FREE. Clearly they are discovering the reality that about 3-5% of people think EVs are useful. The rest run from them.

Repair costs after a minor collision were twice as high as a conventional auto. On top of being very expensive to buy, and very inconvenient to "refuel", they cost twice as much for repairs. The pile of negatives is massively higher than any possible positives.

Minor e-car collisions sometimes damage the one thousand to three thousand pound lithium ion batteries, although the damage might not be apparent at first. Thermal runaway is one bad Li-ion cell away. If an e-vehicle battery touches salt water, it's probably history, and can only be parked safely if it's kept at least fifty feet away from all buildings and other vehicles. In a service area space that could hold one hundred ICE cars, automobile dealers, if they have to keep damaged or possibly damaged e-vehicles on their lot, can safely keep two e-vehicles in the same space. A month ago in St. Johns County near Jacksonville a Mercedes owner had her ICE Mercedes in the shop for service, and the dealer provided her with an e-Mercedes as a loaner. After 22 hours in the garage not being driven, the e-car, which was not charging, burst into flames. Half the house was charred rubble and the smoked out other half will have to be torn down. I would imagine the lady has hired an attorney.

Buying a used rental car used to be a good way to get a rather new car and a way for the company to help profits. I sure would never buy a used EV so after a couple years the EV is mostly junk. I don't understand why repair costs are twice ICE cars, the batteries don't get damaged in fender benders, if they did the repairs of EVs would be much more than twice that of ICE.

I received my battery order today. 100 AA and 48 D batteries. The box weighted a ton. I can only imagine how heavy these car batteries are. And the wear and tear that weight must put on our roads. And what about a tierd parking garage full of these stupid cars. Will they even be able to hold all that weight? No body wants these crap cars for a dozen different reasons.

About 10 years or so ago, I needed to rent a car while mine was in the shop. I made the mistake of telling Enterprise that I didn't care what car I got. They rented me a Prius. I live in very hilly Maryland. I was flooring the car to get up a rather large, steep hill and traffic was passing me like I was walking. About 10 months later, I needed to rent a car again. I told them under no circumstances would I take another Prius. The clerk nodded and said they had so many complaints, Enterprise scraped the entire EV fleet. Nothing has fundamentally changed, so why would any rental company think it's a good idea now?

America's top business schools claim that the best and brightest business managerment in the country once passed through their classrooms. Judging by the decisions that have been made by Ford, GM, rental car companies, the US Postal Service, public transportation and school management that have bought fleets of buses that cost twice as much as real vehicles and endanger passengers, I don't think all of that classroom time was worth the price of tuition. EVs were logically stupid from the very beginning and having the US Government back the push to go that way seals the deal.

My mother, who passed away last year, was a Holocaust survivor. As is typical with Jewish mothers, she was proud that I went to law school and even more proud when I was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. She also detested arrogance, so she frequently responded to my comments and professional achievements with “my son, the Chacham.” [snip] My mother would say that there was no way the Jewish people could experience another Holocaust or other form of mass persecution, in large part because Israel exists and in larger part because the world had learned its lesson

Recently on X, formerly known as Twitter, I wrote the following regarding the Oct. 7 Hamas incursion into Israel: “No context is needed: Jews are warmongers fit for annihilation. Israel must be eradicated.” It has since come to my attention that people actually read what I wrote and have taken it wildly out of context, causing quite a kerfuffle. Upon reflection, I wish to apologize to the Harvard community — not because Harvard’s president broke down my door, demanding I delete the tweet, which I have since done, but because my words somehow caused harm and a breathtaking loss of alumni donations.

Thanks to the release of depositions in a sexual harassment law suit, we now know just how thoroughly corrupt was the prosecution of former Minneapolis police offer Derek Chauvin and his three colleagues in the May 2020 death of George Floyd. The depositions were taken this summer in response to a lawsuit filed by Amy Sweasy, a former Hennepin County prosecutor, against her then boss, former County Attorney Mike Freeman. Sweasy alleges that Freeman engaged in sex discrimination and professional retaliation. Whatever Freeman did or did not do to Sweasy, however, pales in comparison to what both of them and their colleagues did to the cops they prosecuted

One need only take a very quick and superficial look at the “green” movement to rightly deduce the “greenies” are a bunch of morons—they’re either incapacitated with their hands glued to the road, protesting something by throwing soup all over a Vincent Van Gogh painting, or, demanding a forced transition to battery-powered vehicles, wind turbines, and solar farms… while also demanding no mining take place for the minerals needed to power such initiatives. For a little context, see the excerpt below from a report at Just the News yesterday: The Biden administration announced in April that it intended to enact some of the highest air pollution

Over the last two weeks, the Palestinian people of the Gaza Strip have been at the mercy not of Israel but of Hamas. One feels for the Gazans. They’re suffering serious deprivation, lacking basic supplies and food and water, watching their homes and hospitals and neighborhoods get leveled, trying to flee the country while Hamas thugs block them, and being held by Hamas as human shields. All this ugliness unraveled with Hamas’ attack on Israel on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023. What has erupted since was detonated by Hamas. “Climate change” is in the news daily, with each featured story getting an attention-grabbing sensationalist headline. The frenzy is at its peak now because it’s the time of year for tropical storms and wildfires. However, to appreciate that these stories are pure narratives, it’s a good time to consider the facts behind the so-called “greenhouse gases.” Several atmospheric gases, including carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor, absorb light in the infrared region. These are collectively known as the “greenhouse gases” because absorbing infrared energy warms up the air—hence the name greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide, on a per-molecule basis, is six times as effective an absorber as water is.

“Stand against Hamas’ terror or stand with them” was the title of an article in New York Daily News a few days ago. It is exactly like this. It is not easy to understand what the people who govern Gaza really think. In the wake of Hamas’s recent terror attack on Israel, it’s clear that Hamas’s ultimate goal is to commit again a genocide against the Jewish people. It openly wants to do it, as is written in its founding documents. Hamas, unlike its secular rival, Fatah, has declared that Israel has no right to exist. To use an expression that politicians love when covering their lies, let me be perfectly clear: Israel cannot coexist with evil. It’s just that simple. The Apostle Paul put it this way: “Do not be unequally bound together with unbelievers [do not make mismatched alliances with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership can righteousness have with lawlessness? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14 [snip] most secular moderns are happy to go along and get along. The entire network is estimated to stretch over 300 miles despite the Gaza strip being on 25 miles long. It’s where Hamas fighters have been hiding out since the start of Israel’s military response to the 10/7 attack. But the IDF has no intention of entering the tunnels which are likely booby-trapped. Israeli military protocol generally prohibits regular ground troops from entering tunnels, as the chances of being killed or captured is too high. Israelis have seen their soldiers grabbed and dragged into tunnels, so the likely strategy will be to attempt

The idiom for pregnancy, “a bun in the oven,” which traces its origins back more than 2,000 years to Ancient Greece, is in fact “misogynistic,” according to Kathleen Crowther, an historian of reproductive medicine at the University of Oklahoma. Crowther insists the idiom reduces the role of the mother to a mere incubator after the majority of the work has been done by the man. “I don’t think most people who use that metaphor are being misogynistic.” “But I think it actually does come from a deeply misogynistic tradition of thinking about women’s bodies as passive,” she argues.
