CNN's Abby Phillip grilled Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates Tuesday night for sending her son to a private Catholic school while lobbying against school vouchers for needy families.
Phillip pointed out to the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) leader that she has compared private schools to the “segregation academies” of the civil rights-era south. She then asked Davis Gates why she would send her own son to a private school if she holds such a negative opinion of them.
“I didn’t speak out against private schools. I spoke out against school choice. School choice and private schools are two different entities,” Davis Gates said.

They know how rotten the schools are that they are in charge of....so they send their kids elsewhere.
And they DON'T care what happens to "ordinary kids", not one bit.

Ms. Davis-Gates explains away her hypocrisy by making a fine distinction between private schools and school choice. She doesn't hesitate to pull out the old tropes to cover her ample double standards; the "origin of school choice in America was southern school districts helping white families flee integrated schools after Brown vs. Board of Education." Therefore, school choice is forever a tool of racists. Case closed.
The fact that poor blacks cannot send their children to private schools, as she is able, is because of their poor economic conditions due to systemic racism. She never addresses the fact that the teachers, who belong to the union of which she is president, do not seem to be able to teach their children how to read or do math. It is much more important that the public know right-wingers are emailing threats to her, and school choice is racist!

School choice is the solution to the school problems, which these crooks call "racism". But then anything and everything they don't want or like is "racism" - even when it has nothing at all to do with that topic.
They only have one retort....racism.....so it is what they hit everything with...makes no difference if the tool is invalid, it's their only retort.

The hypocrisy is absolutely stunning! Unions by and large have overstayed their welcome in this country. It’s way past time to get unions out of the school systems and out of the government!

Same old lies - school choice is racist and government schools are underfunded, rinse, repeat. But CPS is spending $29,000 per student this year. How long will parents and voters continue to fall for this BS? Maybe forever, it’s been working for decades.

What she's saying is technically true.
However, she's also saying my child is more important than your child, and since I make so much money I'm able to afford a private school to ensure my child gets the quality education your child will not be obtaining in Chicago.

Nationwide, this situation of teachers sending their own kids to private schools has been going on for decades now. This is not a new problem. But it does need to be addressed again. #1 is correct, they know exactly what they are doing to the nation's posterity and they don't want their own kids to be damaged.

Right wing talking points my Aunt Fanny. What I heard was a low IQ woman trying to baffle with BS and sounding more absurd with each sentence.
The Chicago schools aren’t a mess because of a right wing conspiracy or Donald Trump or because blacks are always victims. They’re a mess for every student of every race because Chicago is corrupt and so is Stacey Davis-Gates who earns >150K/year and probably a lot more through graft. According to WBEZ (NPR - Chicago) in 2020 the cost per student in Chicago Public schools was $17.8K. In 2013 it was $13.2K. In 2023 it is $29.4/student. Enrollment has dropped 11.7% since 2020.
How do Catholic schools compare? At De LaSalle Institute, a Catholic high school on the south side of Chicago (Bronzeville, which is traditionally an African-American neighborhood) yearly tuition is $18K and 88% of graduates go on to four year colleges including schools like Cornell, U. of Illinois and U. Of Iowa and an additional 11% go to two year schools or trade schools. In Chicago Public Schools the number of graduates going to postsecondary schools is 60.1% according to Illinoispolicy.org.
The Chicago branch of the American Federation of Teachers for which our Stacey works isn’t exactly doing a bang-up job but WTH? Her kids can always opt out. And tough luck to the other kids in her community.

I recall that President George W. Bush set up a program for Washington D.C. where all the students were issued vouchers that they could then use to pay for whatever school -public or private- that they could gain admission to.
The first thing that Zero did, on taking office, was to cancel that policy and force all the non-rich kids back into the worthless D.C. public schools. Left-wing Union politics takes precedence of educating the students every time in Democ'RAT land.

There are two types of schools, public and private. Those are your choices.
Choosing a private school because the public schools near you are inferior and perhaps unsafe, is not racist. She got to choose, so should everyone else.
