Atlanta, GA—Georgia Governor Brian Kemp officially declared a state of emergency today due to high inflation and poor economic conditions in the state stemming from bad economic policies coming out of Washington, D.C. In his declaration, Kemp said he is temporarily suspending the state’s excise tax on motor and locomotive fuel. The suspension of the tax took effect at midnight this morning and will go through October 12th, 2023. This move will save everyone buying gas in Georgia approximately 29 cents per gallon. Kemp has suspended the state's gas tax before, and that suspension lasted for 10 months when it was in effect from March to December of 2022.

Live in GA. Am ambivalent about this. The excise tax is used for road repair. There are potholes that if a dog fell in one it couldn't get out until it rained and the pooch could swim. But I appreciate any relief from Biden Economics. Nice gesture from a governor who (I think) is prevented from running for a 3rd term.

In my corner gas station in Los Angeles standard gasoline is $6.199 today. Rounding up that would mean $6.20. Brent crude oil is at $90 per barrel.

#2 - I feel for you, my southern sister. I guess I don't have so bad here in our northern California mountain community: Regular gas at the Arco $5.59, Chevron $5.38, Safeway $5.28. Local observation; until the sudden rise in the few weeks, the Arco was always the cheapest station at ten cents below the Safeway, with the Chevron always at ten to twenty cents more. This sudden switch from Arco from the cheapest gas to the most expensive seems really odd. Anything bad happen to Atlantic Richfield lately?

Isn’t this rich? The guy who did everything in his power to make sure that Donald Trump was cheated out of a win in that state. The state of emergency today was caused by the fact that your state committed election fraud in front of the entire country. We all watched as those ballots in SUITCASES hidden underneath draped tables were pulled out and put through tabulators several times on election night. Maybe if you had gotten serious about the fraud we witnessed on election night this state of emergency wouldn’t be necessary since President Trump had the economy humming right along, gas was cheap, there was no inflation and unemployment was low. You are the problem Kemp. You facilitated Biden’s win when you refused to acknowledge the fraud that was rampant in your state. You brought this on not only your state but the entire country, you little weasel.

OH, I'm sure that the gas tax suspension caused by demonrats and Joey over inflation will soon be announced by the very same demonrats and Joey as nothing more than a fake story.

Election year hijinks. I guess he doesn't know that the Refiners will simply raise their price to negate his price cutting effort at the pump.

#1. Unfortunately, Live here also. Potholes must have a special exemption here. Rarely do they get fixed. Called my congressman’s office two months ago and asked if Kemp died and they forgot to tell us. Then Kemp gave his support to Miss Fani. Give. Me. Strength.

A one month suspension of fuel taxes will not accomplish much except help Kemp politically.

I agree, Kemp is being generous with OPM to score points. If he were to fire Fani and those crooked lawyers who are hounding Donald Trump I would take notice. This idea will not work in California because they can not afford the loss of income. I'm sure they use that tax on fuel for potholes just like Pennsylvania does. Pennsylvania also uses the millions of dollars in toll road money for potholes so one would think it's like driving on glass here. (it's not)

Maybe he should also check on price-gouging while he is at it, as you drive closer to the contiguous state lines.

What else will he be doing under cover of his "emergency powers"? This guy is not to be trusted, seems to have been a supporter of the election fraud.
I don't trust him at all. I think the gas tax thing is a cover story for something more malevolent.

The State of Georgia can do this because businesses and the entertainment industry continue to bring in significant revenue. As for the roads... in the 63 years I have lived in and around the Atlanta area the roads have largely been fine and subject only to the kinds of regular wear one would expect. Trips to surrounding states make this even clearer, especially Louisiana and Florida. Of course, they have a different soil type to deal with.
And, always Trumpers are losing sight of the fact that Kemp DID sign a strict abortion law, DID resist the COVID shutdowns and mandates, and DID promote Constitutional Carry in the state.
Trump is such a polarizing figure... be careful about the babies you are tossing out with the bath water.
