In recent years, auto thefts and carjackings have become ordinary events in the streets of Chicago, often occurring in the middle of the day and sometimes being live-streamed on social media as they occur.
Last year, Chicago reported more than 21,000 vehicle thefts. In 2021, the number was “only” 14,000.
Unfortunately, things are getting much worse. As of this writing, Chicago has experienced more than 20,000 vehicle thefts, with nearly four months before the year ends.
But worry not, my fellow Chicagoans, Mayor Brandon Johnson has a plan that is sure to solve the problem: He is suing two automakers, Kia and Hyundai,

So are we to assume the natural inclination of his "citizens" is to steal, and it cannot be tempered by fear of punishment or moral teachings?
I always thought so, but maybe he should try to control his dindus anyway.

Hilariously stupid.
Blame the victim. How about we just shoot car thieves if we catch them?

Easy fix.
The automakers should sue the Mayor
for making it too easy to steal a car.

Well, there you go. Par for the course for Chicago. Those busy stealing cars are never too busy to murder their fellow gang members. Always look forward to the Sunday morning body count. Hyundai North America has just issued a free come-and-get-it upgrade for anti-theft for certain models. I've got a lovely sticker on my 2013's windshield. Whew, now I feel safer. Sure hope my little Elanta doesn't decide to let itself out of the garage and go a-wandering.

The mayor has exposed the real goal of every car maker. Every car manufacturer dreams of their car being the number one stolen car. That the cars come from a country where people don't exhibit the habit or culture of stealing and carjacking might just have something to do with it.

In a way I almost feel sorry for anyone who would steal a Kia or Hyundai. They are only one step removed from walking. Years ago there was a public service commercial saying don't leave your keys in your car; don't help a good boy go bad. I've gotten lax. No longer put the Club on my car when parked. Too much trouble.

I would say this is as insane as it sounds.
But given the state of our current "justice system", I wouldn't bet against him winning this lawsuit.

Why bother, Johnson. Your democrat schtick has made the Chicago blacks perpetually poor and stupid so that many of them don't even know how to steal a car. Your predecessor, Mayor Buckwheat made sure of this.

Chicago subjects better get their act together, clean up their elections and vote this idiot and his merry band out of office and put in someone with some common sense. The Blue cities are getting close to "No Way Back".

I wish the AG from my state would sue the Mayor and Chicago for including my state in their lawsuit. Mayer Failure and the failed city of Chicago doesn't represent a single citizen o f the state where I reside. They have no standing to sue in my name and my fellow citizens' names.

Well the current Mayor of Chicago is certainly not going to try to pin the blame for all the auto thefts on the auto thieves from the “community” that elected him as Mayor. Kia and Hyundai are South Korean corporations who have no votes in Chicago, so they are easy targets for local leftist and socialist Democrat politicians to target and have the “community” believe that the Mayor is giving them some cover.

20,000 car thefts obviously include a lot of repeats. Put the sticky-fingered baboons in jail and soon the numbers will drop. Brandon is a loonytune character but then they knew that when they elected him.

Constitutional concealed carry would make a big dent on carjackings but yes these car makers - along with Apple should be held accountable for making products that can be easily stolen.

It is the car's fault. I read someplace about "the power of playing the victim" - never taking responsibility for your actions. Nothng ever changes. Things just get worse, and kids marauding through the expensive stores, stealing stuff and laughing and joking about it, sometimes never pay the piper. Well, I guess they do sooner or later.

Yeah. I have a 23 Hyundai Tucson. Unless I bring the car key and press the button, it quietly and patiently stays in my driveway. Hasn't taken an unaccompanied journey on its own yet.
But I am kinda getting upset that the radio isn't working again. And I can't get an appointment at the dealer for another week and a half.

Illinois Mom 8/30/2023 3:35:05 PM (No. 1546082)
In February four of the mayor's constituents drove thirty miles out of the city and stole our car on a very cold dark night. The car was trashed but it was recovered by Chicago Police responding to a "shots fired" call. Inside the car were bullet casings and ski masks. A gun was found under the car. Four females were inside the car, two were released immediately because they were juveniles, the other two were arrested for misdemeanor criminal trespass to a vehicle, a crime punishable with a fine up to $500 and possibly one month in jail. No "Grand Theft Auto" for them.
The car was totaled, they seemed to have participated in those illegal "street racing" events, as well as drive by's or robberies committed with the gun. Our insurance covered the car with a total replacement payout, but, we lost our safe driver status due to the claim and the premium went up an additional $1K per year, a "fine" double what the criminals "might" be fined for the crime.
Someone should ask the mayor, "Why shouldn't they steal nice cars, drive them into the ground, commit crimes with impunity and "possibly" have to pay no more than $500? With those odds, picking up a new car every week seems like a smart deal to me.

To leftist and socialist Democrats like the Mayor of Chicago suing South Korean automobile makers follows the same bogus principle that the leftist and socialist Democrats use when someone is assaulted or murdered by a perpetrator using a firearm. The Democrats blame the firearm and not the perpetrator, especially when the involved perpetrator originates from a “community” that supports and votes for the Democrats.

My solution to car theft is to keep doing what I’ve been doing for about 50 years - drive a stick shift. These young thugs have no idea what that third pedal is for or why there is no “D” on the gear shift.

Classic Communist. How dare those automobile companies build cars that are easy for our criminals to steal. Instead of locking up the criminals, just make cars that are harder to steal. This is democrats letting criminals run loose and then blaming the victims.

Really? Are you going to sue Nike, Sony, Cartier and others because they are easily stolen?
But you won't put the thieves and smash & grabbers into prison and we ALL know why.
