California Democrats Want to Give Unemployment
Benefits to Hollywood Strikers

Democrats in California are preparing to propose the idea of extending unemployment benefits to workers who are on strike. Obviously, this is being motivated mainly by the Hollywood actors and writers who are on strike. Normally, benefits of this kind would only go to workers who have been let go by their employers. This is nothing more than Democrats trying to throw a lifeline to people who they know are part of their core voters. It’s also worth noting that California’s unemployment insurance program is already broke. FOX News reports: A group of California Democrats are expected to propose handing out unemployment benefits to striking workers.

Unemployment rules are crazy. I worked for a state parks agency. We hired seasonal employees for the summer. They were told they had a job from Memorial Day to Labor day. Some of them successfully applied for unemployment benefits after they were layed off in September, and parks had to pay for their unemployment benefits.

That sounds like a trick they tried to pull in Michigan for striking auto workers. Since employers pay a special tax to cover unemployment that move puts employers on the position of subsidizing a strike against themselves.

Our company received a letter in the mail from the state unemployment agency. The letter said I was trying to get unemployment benefits but was using my last name before I was married. The lengths I had to go to to prove this was a fraudulent claim was ridiculous. I wasn’t just an employee I was an owner. It was unreal.

Way, way, back, when I was just a grunt in a large tel-com, the union went on strike..I ended up changing snow tires at a local gas station and never saw a penny of any kind of benefit from the union...they can all go suck wind as far as I'm concerned...I was never so happy when I got promoted and out of the union...then there was another strike and I got sent to Minneapolis..then it was a really nice city..loved the downtown with it's enclosed walkway for winter...

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy attacked fellow candidate Nikki Haley during Wednesday’s GOP presidential debate, saying her rhetoric will make her a friend of the military-industrial complex. Haley delivered an articulate defense for the need to provide Ukraine with aid, saying the country is the “first line of defense” against Russian leader Vladimir Putin. She also said that NATO countries such as Poland could be at risk because of Russia’s incursion into Ukraine.“I wish you well in your future career on the board of Lockheed & Raytheon,” Ramaswamy said. Haley then exclaimed, “I’m not on the boards of Lockheed and Raytheon!”

The first Republican primary debate descended into chaos on Wednesday night with the candidates shouting over one another in an effort to make their point as they squabbled on a range of issues from climate change to January 6th to foreign policy. The stakes were high as the eight candidates searched for a breakout, viral moment that would set fire to their campaigns and give them some momentum to catch up with Trump, who leads by double digits in the polls. It was unclear if any one accomplished that goal. The debate itself was overshadowed by multiple incidents of shouting and yelling. Often words could not be made out in the cross-talk.
