Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida has started to say it publicly: former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election. Former Vice President Mike Pence is more aggressively rebutting Mr. Trump’s insistence that the vice president had the constitutional authority to block the certification of President Biden’s victory. And former Gov. Chris Christie is jumping at every opportunity to lay into Mr. Trump, lambasting him as a “completely self-centered, self-possessed, self-consumed, angry old man.” The field of 2024 GOP presidential candidates is sharpening their attacks against Mr. Trump as they prepare for the race’s first debate, which is set for Aug. 23 in Milwaukee. The former president may skip the event.

Special counsel Jack Smith said in a filing Thursday he is prepared to take former President Donald Trump to trial by Jan. 2 of next year over Trump's federal indictment for seeking to overturn the 2020 election.
Smith estimates it will take no longer than four to six weeks to present his case to a jury in Washington, D.C., according to the filing. "This trial date ... would give the defendant time to review the discovery in this case and prepare a defense, and would allow the Court and parties to fully litigate any pre-trial legal issues," Smith's office writes in the filing.

Cristina Laila reported Wednesday that 75-year-old Utah man and Trump supporter Craig Robertson was shot and killed early Wednesday morning during an FBI raid.
According to reports, Robertson was facing three counts after posting threats to Joe Biden: Interstate threats, threats against the president, and influencing, impeding and retaliating against federal law enforcement officers by threat. Robertson allegedly threatened to kill Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and officials prosecuting Trump in a series of social media posts.

You couldn’t have missed the story, the media was more invested in the team than some team members appeared to be – hyping their every move. But the dream is over, they lost to Sweden on penalty kicks. While the press laments their defeat, a lot of normal people, myself included, are either engaging in schadenfreude over the loss or desperately fighting the urge to. If you fall into the latter category, let it go. Sometimes schadenfreude is warranted and useful to prevent the need for much more of it in the future.
