GOP presidential candidate and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis became the first 2024 contender to enter the South Carolina primary Tuesday and defended rival and Republican front-runner former President Donald Trump during a campaign stop in the Palmetto State. Flanked by supporters, including state legislators who have endorsed his bid, DeSantis signed his filing documents during a stop at the South Carolina Republican Party headquarters in Columbia, making him the first major party presidential candidate officially on the ballot for the first-in-the-South contest. During a press conference afterward at the Celebrate Freedom Foundation, a nonprofit founded by retired military leaders, DeSantis was asked by a reporter about breaking news

Good and sane move. Nobody, save a criminal democrat, could support current politicized Federal law enforcement and the “Justice Department.”

Ron is getting a taste of what it would be like to be the repub nominee in an election. he should be supporting our President in every way possible because when 2028 rolls around and he's the nominee he'll get the exact same treatment our President is getting and will be slandered and maligned ... just because he's a repub and if anyone thinks the demcommies will go easy on someone not in their wicken, they had better alter their thinking ... demcommies don't like anyone who is not one of them

So...what Great Act of Apostasy did DeSantis commit? He said that Trump should have come out with a more forceful statement. Well, maybe so, maybe not, and that is easy to say in hindsight. But DeSantis has been perfectly consistent in his opposition to the weaponization of government - which puts him squarely on Trump's side in this ongoing business, In no way has DeSantis betrayed an innocent man or gone over to any "dark side". If you want to take issue with DeSantis do so for sound reasons, but not in reaction to the distortions concocted by some anonymous internet provocateur.

Why the DeSantis hatred from the ever-Trumpers, even if DeSantis is holding out an olive branch? It wasn't necessary to destroy G.H.W. Bush to get Reagan elected, nor did Regan feel it necessary to destroy Bush for having the temerity to run against him in the primaries. DeSantis hatred is as mysterious as the refusal to admit Trump has ever made a mistake or two. No politician is perfect, nor will any ever be. At least DeSantis is not reveling in Trump's legal woes, which I believe Trump would be doing if the shoe was on the other foot. I'm not thinking that either Trump or DeSantis has what it takes to fully right the ship, which is by and large a greater undertaking than can be achieved during a single administration, but either one would be better than any democrat. The remainder of the GOP field is wholly uninspiring.

The release Thursday of an FBI “FD-1023” document detailing allegations of bribery against President Joe Biden boosts the case for opening an impeachment inquiry into the president. The FD-1023 suggests that a Ukrainian businessman from the Burisma energy company allegedly paid Joe Biden through shell companies, and hired his son, Hunter Biden, in an effort to help remove a prosecutor who was investigating the company. The FD-1023 also contains allegations that Joe and Hunter Biden were each paid $5 million to make sure that prosecutor Viktor Shokin was fired, apparently because Burisma wanted to list itself on U.S. stock markets and could not be under investigation

New York City has begun distributing English and Spanish fliers at the southern border warning asylum seekers that there is “there is no guarantee we will be able to provide shelter and services to new arrivals.” NYC Mayor Eric Adams explained the policy on Wednesday by noting simply that “We have no more room in the city.” Roughly 55,000 migrants are currently under the City’s care. Add the homeless population, and the total number of people currently sheltered in city jumps past 105,000. Adams also announced policy changes designed to make space for families with children in NYC housing. The city will now require single adult migrants

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the U.S. House Speaker said he does not see any reason for the former president to be found criminally responsible for January 6. “I don’t see how he could be found criminally responsible,” McCarthy said. “What criminal activity did he do? He told people to be peaceful.” This past Sunday, the former president revealed on Truth Social that he would have to appear before a grand jury this week

From reading pro- and con-Barbie movie reviews, I’ve learned that Barbie Land is great to look at, the movie is a woke celebration or nightmare, depending on your viewpoint, and men are the last bastion of true femininity, and fairy tales have reverted to their ancient place as adult entertainment, Having grown up playing with Barbies, I watched some of the promos for the movie. Visually, they were great. Barbie Land’s buildings, interior design, beaches, and bright clothes really did look like Barbie’s world brought to life. Closer viewing revealed that these Barbies were irritatingly shrill (my Barbies never were) and the Kens vapid. Even worse, it became increasingly clear

A federal judge on Wednesday denied former President Donald Trump’s bid to move his hush-money payments case from New York state court to a federal venue. The ruling from U.S. District Court Judge Alvin Hellerstein means the case will stay in Manhattan criminal court, where District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office is prosecuting Trump on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Trump, who has pleaded not guilty, argued that the payments were connected to his duties as president and that the case should therefore be heard in federal court. Hellerstein rejected that argument.
