Why Costco Unleashing the 'Death Star'

It’s the logo that Costco shoppers dread: when the “Death Star” appears next to their favorite item, indicating that the discount retail giant won’t restock once current inventory has sold out. Just this year, the Death Star has appeared on Filthy brand blue cheese olives, Kinder’s organic toasted onion dip mix, and Jonny Pops chocolate dipped strawberry pops. Now the Death Star has been spotted adorning the price signs for Bud Light, which was the most popular beer in America back in the olden days of […checks notes…] a couple months ago. If you think that’s a bad sign for Bud Light sales, you’re wrong. It’s much, much worse.

If anyone had told me, back in my Army days, that 3.2 beer (the swill served up at the PX) would one day become a popular consumer item.I would have called him insane.

This is an amazing event to witness. I have read that grocery stores and others reevaluate their shelf space every quarter according to how sales are going. With Costco eliminating BL altogether, that is a drastic hit on the brand, As the article said, casual buyers won't be buying something that is not available to them on the shelves. And presumably other stores (Kroger, Publix, etc) will reduce their space, making the death spiral even worse. I shop at Sam's Club, not Costco. If it makes sense for Costco to do this, it would seem Sam's would do it too.

The article makes an excellent point. There are plenty of people out there who don't know what's going on in the world. They aren't even aware of Bud Light's self-destruction. They see cheap beer, they buy it. Once Bud Light isn't available, they'll buy something else.

By God's grace, I have not had a drink in 4 years, next month. But when I did drink (heavily), it was beer. BL was not even beer, in my book. A step above water, and akin to decaffeinated coffee. Why?

Embedded photo of Costco sign stamped with ‘Death Star’ shows the price of $14.97 for a case of Bud Light and a price per can of .624. That is slightly less than I used to pay for Rolling Rock, which is better than Bud Light. BTW, Rolling Rock is an AB product. I refuse to buy any AB product.

It's not the retailer who determines the life or death of a product, it's the consumer. Dylan Mulvaney is the kiss of death that woke up millions. I concur, #1. The military pushed 3.2 beer so that the troops would not get drunk as fast. The troops fooled them by drinking twice as much. In remote stations like Diego Garcia, Guam or Adak, you drank what the boat delivered and liked it.

Jennifer Rubin is a left-wing columnist for the Washington Post. So, naturally, she hates Ron DeSantis. On Friday, she published a column arguing that DeSantis’s conservative policies endanger Florida’s economy. The headline was, “Florida might pay for MAGA cruelty and know-nothingism.” Just another objective day at the office at WaPo! Unfortunately, her entire column was based on a grotesque factual error. [Tweet] The centerpiece of Rubin’s piece was this absurd claim: DeSantis likes to brag that more people are moving to Florida than ever. Not so fast. ‘An estimated 674,740 people reported that their permanent address changed from Florida to another state in 2021.’ That’s more than any other state,

There is so much wrong with America’s cities, it’s hard to see why any contributing member of society would live and/or work in one of them. Some of the issues arise from far-Left local governance while others are generated by more widespread Leftist policy. These are coupled with an organic workforce evolution, as the United States transitions from an industry-based to an information-based economy. The result is urban areas caught in a downward spiral — and, as with any sinking vessel, threatening to suck everyone nearby down with them. First, a quick refresher on the compounding problems of urban areas. Chief among them is that big cities

Look, you can call it a mistake if you want — I have no doubt the fact-checkers are working overtime to make it clear it was a “gaffe” — but Kamala Harris did say it. I’m honestly not sure if it was a Freudian slip or just a case of saying the quiet part out loud. But during a speech on climate change on Friday, the nation’s historically unpopular vice president said we need to “reduce population.” “When we invest in clean energy and electric vehicles and reduce population, more of our children can breath clean air and drink clean water,” Harris said during her speech in Maryland.

The Left is big on de-escalation of conflict. They insist on talk rather than action to address rioting, theft, and even violent assault. The one place where they will not use it is in politics. De-escalation of political conflict would require them to do something they are loath to -- debate ideas. The left is instead attacking our right to speech. Try disagreeing with any element of leftist orthodoxy and see what happens. Challenging any of their core positions will not be met with robust debate, but with insults, cancellation, and even physical attack. Challenge them on: Climate change -- you’re a denier. Trans grooming of children -- you’re a homophobe. Affirmative action

Last night, Fox News host Jessie Watters, like the rest of the nation, couldn’t stomach the United States Secret Service’s conclusion that it couldn’t figure out who brought cocaine into the White House. The law enforcement agency has the names of 500 individuals in or around the vestibule where the drugs were discovered, but supposedly no video evidence that can zero in on a person of interest. Due to the lack of a solid suspect, the agency is closing its investigation. Katie had more on this yesterday. She included the statement from the Secret Service:

And just like that, the January 6 insurrection is no more. And the deconstruction story is really something. At the center of this narrative switcheroo is non-other than Ray Epps. Before we get to that, let’s remember how we got here. It took only moments for the Democrat media complex to anoint the January 6 breach and riot at the U.S. Capitol Building an “insurrection.” As if beckoned by an unseen force, narrative builders dutifully lined up to receive the official wafer on their tongues, and voilà! “Trump supporters” who had never committed an act of violence at years of peaceful and crowded rallies were eligible for a 20-year prison stretch.

The supporters of former President Trump are absolutely correct about one thing. If every single Republican pledged their allegiance to him and fell in line he’d win the nomination easily. But he’d also lose the general election, again. He does not receive enough support from outside the traditional Republican and MAGA base to win in 2024. Hillary Clinton beat Trump by roughly 3 million in the popular vote in 2016. While Trump indeed did win the election by taking the required 270 electoral votes, just a few thousand votes in each of the key swing states would have changed that outcome into a Hillary Clinton landslide victory in 2016.
