Another business closing its doors in San Francisco but this one isn’t just another major chain retailer. Anchor brewing opened its doors in San Francisco in 1896 and has survived everything that happened between now and then. But today the company announced it had already brewed its last beer, citing economic problems related to the pandemic. After 127 years in business, San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing Company is shutting down. According to a press release, the brewery has been facing challenging economic factors and declining sales since 2016. “This was an extremely difficult decision that Anchor reached only after many months of careful evaluation,” Anchor Brewing spokesperson Sam Singer said. “We recognize the importance

Anchor is so 1980's. Today's millennials are all about microbreweries and craft beers.

Anchor ain't ale. Steam is a type of beer I like but I don't ever buy Anchor. I hope someone in a better state takes up brewing the steam beer.

How sad. Since this is in Frisco, Annhauser Busch will buy it and re-open with their craft beer "Butt Light."

Back in college for my American Literature class, I read and presented on the book McTeague by Frank Norris. It's an example of realistic fiction from the late 19th century. It was set in San Francisco and published in 1899. Norris probably had Anchor steam beer in mind. I will be willing to bet that if I went up to all the English majors currently enrolled, none of them will have heard of Frank Norris and probably none have heard of Anchor steam beer.

They've survived everything including two major earthquakes for over 120 years. What they ultimately couldn't survive was decades of progressive Democrat rule.

Trump’s support tested in Iowa, some

Former President Donald Trump, up by double digits over every GOP opponent in the critical early-voting state of Iowa, took a swing at the state’s popular Republican governor — and it may have backfired. Some influential Republicans in the state tell The Washington Times that Mr. Trump‘s social media attack on Gov. Kim Reynolds has caused them to rethink their support. They believe many others will follow. “She’s more popular here than he is, by far,” said Cody Hoefert, the former co-chair of the Iowa Republican Party. “And when he goes after her, that doesn’t bode well for him.”

President Joe Biden has authorized the military to call up 3,000 reserve troops to support operations in Europe after tens of thousands were sent there last year after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a top general said Thursday. Although it is not clear whether Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin plans to actually deploy these reservists anytime soon, the move suggests that the U.S. military’s training mission in Europe, along with the deployment of several new brigades after the invasion, has stretched active-duty forces. “This reaffirms the unwavering support and commitment

An Iowa state senator who’d previously endorsed Donald Trump is flipping his support toRon DeSantis just days after the former president attacked Iowa’s popular Republican governor, Kim Reynolds. Jeff Reichman, who is serving his first term in the state Senate, announced on Thursday that he is defecting to the Florida governor’s presidential campaign. In a statement, Reichman singled out praise for Reynolds, who Trump has targeted for her warmness toward DeSantis, his main rival for the GOP nomination. “Iowa Republicans must be united if we are going to take our country back and reverse Joe Biden’s failures,” Reichman said in a statement. “Gov. DeSantis has achieved the same type of commonsense
Special counsel blasts Trump’s bid to

Special counsel Jack Smith’s team sharply rebuked Donald Trump’s bid to postpone until after the 2024 election his criminal trial for allegedly hoarding classified documents, characterizing the former president’s call for delay as unfounded and one of his key legal arguments as “borderline frivolous.” In an 11-page filing signed by assistant special counsel David Harbach, prosecutors said federal law and the Constitution require the trial to be put on as soon as practical — not with an “open-ended” date built around Trump’s political calendar. “There is no basis in law or fact for proceeding in such an indeterminate and open-ended fashion, and the Defendants provide none,” Harbach writes.

Jared Kushner, former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law who held position in the West Wing, was reportedly questioned before a federal grand jury in recent weeks about Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. The report by New York Times journalists Michael S. Schmidt and Maggie Haberman is the latest indication that federal prosecutors continue to look at charging the former president for his role efforts to stay in power and the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. “The line of questioning suggests prosecutors are trying to establish whether Mr. Trump was acting with corrupt intent as he sought to remain in power — essentially that his efforts were knowingly

ALBANY, N.Y. — A mid-level state appeals court on Thursday ordered new congressional lines be drawn for New York, a ruling that could benefit Democrats in the 2024 fight for control of the U.S. House. The Appellate Division of the state Supreme Court reversed a lower court and directed a state redistricting commission to start work on new proposed state congressional lines. Democrats are supporting the lawsuit, which seeks to scrap the 2022 lines in New York under which Republicans flipped four congressional seats. Republicans quickly pledged to take the politically charged case to New York’s highest court. “On to the Court of Appeals,” former Republican Rep. John Faso said

The State and Commerce Departments were among the government agencies targeted by Chinese hackers last month in the weeks preceding Antony Blinken’s trip to Beijing. The hacks were probably affiliated with China’s military and spy services, the New York Times reported, and they began after months of increasing tensions between Washington and Beijing. Republicans have called on the administration to halt its pursuit of a thaw, given the spy-balloon incident, China’s ongoing cooperation with Cuba, and the country’s treatment of the Uyghurs and Taiwan.

Republicans had stronger voter turnout than Democrats did in the 2022 midterms, as the GOP narrowly won control of the U.S. House of Representatives — but failed to win the U.S. Senate. Just a sliver of the electorate — 6% of voters — crossed party lines in last year’s election, reflecting the small size of the swing vote that’s truly up for grabs in this increasingly politically polarized nation. And just slightly more than one-third of all eligible voters participated in all three of the most recent national elections — 2018, 2020 and 2022 — demonstrating how fluid the electorate is from cycle to cycle. These are the major

The Biden administration on Monday slammed the Republican-controlled House’s version of 2024 National Defense Authorization Act for requiring military personnel decisions to be based on merit and not race or gender, among other provisions. “The Administration strongly opposes the House’s sweeping attempts…to eliminate the Department’s longstanding [Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access] efforts and related initiatives to promote a cohesive and inclusive force,” the Biden administration said in a Statement of Administration Policy. The House’s NDAA contains a number of Republican-authored provisions to roll back the Biden administration’s efforts to push Marxist-based Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives throughout the entire Department of Defense establishment, including the military.

The FBI issued a tweet that used a flowery script against a mauve pink background inviting Americans to “Speak Now.” “Justice is better than revenge,” the FBI’s tweet stated. “You may not be Superman, but you can help the #FBI protect the country.
