If You Think All Teachers Are ‘Heroes,’
You’re Part Of The Problem

Many factors have contributed to the downfall of America’s schools. One rarely discussed issue is the disproportionate praise heaped on the teaching industry, which has led teachers to believe the scope of their influence ought to extend beyond the teaching of facts and figures. As a society, we have praised teachers to the extent that even mild criticism of the profession is met with a chorus of boos. “My sister is a teacher!” When discussing widespread problems in the profession, instead of presenting an actual argument, those who reflexively defend the industry will often mention having friends or relatives who are teachers, as if this anecdotal tidbit is a meaningful response.

My sister isn't a teacher, but my sister-in-law is a retired teacher of special ed. and she doesn't have much good to say about the newer generation of teachers. Teachers used to teach, now they indoctrinate. Thank Almighty God that my teachers were of the Greatest Generation.

Behind paywall. I was on a school board that had a 40 hour hearing to remove a teacher. The union fought tooth and nail to help her keep her job. For me, the nail in her coffin the statement of her character witness. "You have to understand, this is just the way she is." Sorry, the way she is is completely unacceptable. Thankfully she was voted out. "My [relative/friend] is a teacher" has become the new "I have black friends". And, by the way, the schools are sufficiently funded.

I don't understand how they can find teachers who will teach the crap they are teaching in schools today. Critical race Theory and transgender and homosexual crap being taught to young kids. I realize that colleges are filling teachers minds with this garbage, but it has to be stopped.

I had a lot of teachers because we moved a lot. Most were not memorable. They came to school, taught their classes and went home. Some were horrible. They were either obnoxious, brutal, communist or had a social agenda to push. Usually it involved gay or anti-gun. A tiny handful were inspirational and made going there a joy. So it was kind of like real life, later.

I've never had any particular animosity towards teachers. Never learned anything useful from one, either. All useful knowledge I have acquired over my sixty plus years I gained on my own, mostly through reading. I taught myself to read (with some help from my parents) prior to starting government school. The only thing I got from government schools is a healthy disdain for all forms of government, i. e. organized crime. Teachers, and for that matter, ANY government worker, should never be allowed to form unions. Period, full stop.

And every year, we're inundated with 'teacher of the year' articles in our local media. Our local American Legion has to 'honor' a teacher every year, like they're the 2nd coming. We also honor police and firemen. Funny how we only honor public employees, kind of like actors giving themselves Oscars!

I know several teachers. They’re all libs. They’re not very smart. I was talking with one of them about how schools don’t teach cursive writing anymore, and teachers know nothing about the Palmer method. She said they don’t need to learn cursive because “everybody has a keyboard.” I asked her how a young person could then read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution in its original form; she said “who would want to?” Most of them have no business in a classroom.

There were many teachers in my family and they were conservative. Judging by the many people who were their students and kept in contact with them and attended their funerals, I am confident in saying they were good teachers. But I had some who were not good and were not very smart, especially the ones teaching math and science. You can educate yourself by reading literature and history, but was much harder to do that in math and hard science, especially with no labs. At least the internet has made most subjects more accessible. I really think that a lot of teacher positions, especially on High School and college levels, should be eliminated and a live webinar type class presented using the very best instructor, educated in the subject matter. Currently schools are mostly job programs for barely educated political activists, too many of whom are aligned with the homosexual agenda.

The public school industry in most states has to hold children hostage or they flee to private or online schools. The sole reason for teachers unions is to preserve the outdated, dysfunctional public school system- children & taxpayers be damned.

I know several teachers. They show up every day and deal with kids both good and bad. Thy have more problems with the parents (whose kids can do no wrong) than the kids. Contrary to the tales of martyrdom we all hear, they get plenty of time to grade papers/tests during the day and rarely use their own money for the classroom. They are all paid very well and get excellent benefits. They can all retire after working 20 years with full benefits for life and pension paying about 60-75% of their salary. If they keep working to actual retirement age (like everyone else), they get Social Security also, making more money than when they worked. They get all kinds of breaks and vacations during the year as well as summers off. When I hear the unions cry about pay being low compared to "other professions", I always wonder if they compare dollar for dollar and hours actually worked. Accountants, Engineers, an other professionals usually work all year and much longer hours, with less benefits, for a lot more years.

I think it all depends on what their motivation is, for being a teacher. My daughter thought she wanted to be an English teacher because she really likes reading and such. But after two years she gave it up for several reasons. One was no mentoring, a lot of time spent after hours and probably the biggest reason was the students were trouble. I can't say certain words here, but it the part of the body that relates to defecation. But I agree a good portion of teachers today have some kind of left wing agenda and I believe those people were cultivated in colleges to be in those positions.

If I want to “reflexively defend” the teaching profession, I have to say, “my grandmother was a teacher, my mother was a teacher, I married a teacher, and my daughter is a teacher.” I guess the only thing that would top that would be if I myself were a teacher. Given this state of affairs, I am generally not prone to resorting to reflexive teacher defenses. BTW: all of my related teachers were and are great teachers whose main focus has been teaching kids how to read, write and do math - along with a little dose of “loving discipline” when required to help the process along.

Ron DeSantis’s allies were eager to regain momentum on the eve of his presidential campaign launch in May. Supporters gleefully predicted the sheer buzz from a splashy announcement — live on Twitter — would rival Donald Trump’s 2015 ride down a golden escalator. Fundraisers were upbeat as they convened at the Four Seasons Miami, some convinced Trump’s daunting lead would shrink as DeSantis finally got in the race.

Biden’s corrupt Justice Department is seeking a December 11 trial date in Jack Smith’s classified documents case. This is brazen election interference. If Judge Aileen grants the DOJ’s request, the trial date will begin just weeks before the Iowa Republican presidential caucuses. The Iowa Caucuses are starting earlier this election cycle and will take place on January 15, 2024. Judge Cannon set the trial date for August 14 but Trump’s lawyers asked to indefinitely postpone the trial. Justice Department lawyers on Thursday filed a motion pushing back on Trump’s legal team and asked the Judge to proceed with jury selection on December 11, 2023.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed in a largely party-line 219-210 vote, with four Republicans opposing the measure and four Democrats supporting it — an atypical outcome for the annual legislation which routinely enjoys broad bipartisan support.
