A majority of Americans approve of the Supreme Court ruling restricting the use of race as a factor in college admissions, though the country is more divided on other high-profile rulings and increasingly viewing the court as driven more by politics than the law, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll conducted using Ipsos' KnowledgePanel. (Snip) A majority of Republicans (75%) and independents (58%) approve of the ruling, while a distinct minority of Democrats approve (26%). And there are deep divisions between racial groups. Most white people (60%) and Asian people (58%) approve of the Supreme Court's decision to limit

Comments:

As usual, Republicans and Independents tend to agree, while most Dems are way off in their own little world.

Interesting, but this isn't a popularity contest. This is a fundamental part of the Constitution. Good that most people grasp this. But, a bunch of the minorities, especially the race hustlers and politicians who survive on racism will hate it.

Clearly those believing politics drives the rulings have no understanding of the constitution and the role of the Supreme Court. Very sad and likely will lead to the death of this country.

This will be further empowered by Congress completely defunding the Department of Education and stopping the idiotic "grant" gravy train that funds this racist madness in higher education. It's all about the money cycle between Academia and the Federal Government.

There is a wonderful, biting piece of satire on the BabylonBee saying that Sotomayor is inspiring, having achieved a high office in spite of the fact that she is illiterate- she can’t read the plain words of the Constitution. She has also inspired her nephew who is blind to pursue his dream of becoming a surgeon.

An abandoned tea kettle with discarded cups and sugar. A long-forgotten blanket draped over a spiny cholla cactus. These are just some of the items volunteers and immigrant rights advocates have found in the unforgiving desert separating the United States from Mexico, where an untold number of people seeking asylum pass through every day. Experts say increased temperatures and a persistent heat wave in the Southwest has exacerbated an already difficult immigration crisis and endangered the lives of migrants who often undertake long and perilous journeys without food, water or sun protection. “People just don’t know what they’re up against,”

A clearer picture of the status of homelessness in Los Angeles County came into focus Thursday with the release of the 2023 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, and after some brief hope offered by last year’s results, the downward trend is continuing. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority revealed “a 9% rise in homelessness on any given night in Los Angeles County to an estimated 75,518 people and a 10% rise in the City of Los Angeles to an estimated 46,260 people.” “While this year’s increases are slightly lower than previous year-over-year increases in the homeless count, they continue a

All three matchups were within the poll’s four percent margin of error. East Carolina University polled 805 registered voters from June 21-24, reaching 402 by landline and

Entering court using a walker, a doctor's note clutched in his hand, 70-year-old Dana Williams, who suffers serious heart problems, hypertension and asthma, pleaded to delay eviction from his two-bedroom apartment in Atlanta. Although sympathetic, the judge said state law required him to evict Williams and his 25-year-old daughter De’mai Williams in April because they owed $8,348 in unpaid rent and fees on their $940-a-month apartment. They have been living in limbo ever since. They moved into a dilapidated Atlanta hotel room with water dripping through the bathroom ceiling, broken furniture and no refrigerator or microwave. Major League Baseball has quietly ordered its teams not to wear any Pride uniforms throughout their Pride events. News of the MLB directive gained recognition last week when the Tampa Bay Rays reportedly announced its Pride festivities would have a different look, with players not sporting jerseys and hats featuring Pride rainbow patches and logos. The league reportedly announced its decision at an owners meeting in February. The decision follows Rays players declining to wear Pride jerseys in 2022, along with many NHL teams opting

Democratic governors don't tend to jump at the chance for a sit-down interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News. They also don’t tend to do tours of states they consider hostile to their own, like Florida. But then there's California's Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom . He prefers the national stage to dealing with the rampant dysfunction happening in his own state. And while Newsom claims he isn't running for president, the evidence suggests he actually is. True, Newsom may not be mounting a primary campaign against a sitting president of his own party who has announced he is running again. But

Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki claimed Republicans are recruiting Muslims against transgender people in her Sunday episode of MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki.” Psaki claimed Republicans are using former President Richard Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” method by turning Muslim Americans against transgender people and, in turn, winning their vote. “Now, decades later, the right-wing is reviving that same playbook,” Psaki said. “This time, with Muslim Americans and trans people. Hear me out here, the GOP is trying to recruit Muslim Americans, a community that makes up less than two percent of the U.S. population against another tiny marginalized group of Americans — transgender people.”

I’m a white writing professor, and apparently, that’s a problem. That was the unmistakable message sent to me at Pennsylvania State University—and that’s why I’m suing the school. In November 2020, nearly half a year after George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis, I was subjected to a video titled “White Teachers Are a Problem” for a monthly professional development meeting for writing faculty. The video’s featured speaker, Asao Inoue, is a self-described practitioner of anti-racism. Not an obscure one, either: About a year prior, Inoue gave the Chair’s Address at a prestigious writing studies research conference and declared, “White people can perpetuate white supremacy by being present.Your body perpetuates racism.”

The first GOP debate stage might not produce the dramatic scene originally expected as a growing number of candidates could opt to skip out – while others are struggling to meet the requirements to land on stage. With just two months to go, there are 15 candidates vying for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 – and only one-third of the field has met the requirements so far to debate in August. Longshot candidates remain at risk of not qualifying in time to reach the debate stage, while some of the frontrunners are threatening to boycott due to restrictions and rules set by the Republican National Committee (RNC).
