The first GOP debate stage might not produce the dramatic scene originally expected as a growing number of candidates could opt to skip out – while others are struggling to meet the requirements to land on stage.
With just two months to go, there are 15 candidates vying for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 – and only one-third of the field has met the requirements so far to debate in August.
Longshot candidates remain at risk of not qualifying in time to reach the debate stage, while some of the frontrunners are threatening to boycott due to restrictions and rules set by the Republican National Committee (RNC).

All that qualify will show up. It's free publicity. The loyalty pledges are pretty much not worth the paper they are printed on anyways.

Everybody forgets that pretty much all the group that pledged to support the nominee NEVER kept it to (really) support Trump. I think Ben Carson was the only truthful one. A couple others endorsed at the end when it didn’t matter and NEVER openly enthusiastically really ever helped him.

I hope Trump passes on this. He is leading by a large percentage. There is nothing he will gain from this.

#3 - that pretty much applied to many Republicans in congress as well. They never had his back except for stabbing purposes. Now, it could be said at least some of them were misled by accusations of Russiarussiarusssia, but perhaps a few derailed gravy trains played a role in their lack of support.

Dems and Independents watch these things. People need to see DJT. The nomination is not in question. He needsto show up whenever possible and paintthe contrast between him andBiden. Forget the rest of them

Will the RNC be loyal to all of the candidates? And the elected nominee?

The only viable reason for the Republican party is President Trump.
Without Trump, there is no Republican party.
Trump might as well debate chimps as attempt to spar with the current line-up of consummate, despicable, loathsome, backbench democraps festooned in elephant hide...chumps.

So they follow PDT too. Look at that. The nobody candidates know without PDT the debates won't get them any attention at all. Attention whores.

Actually, #5, Donald Trump is not leading by a large percentage with the American voter at large. Winning the Republican primaries means nothing if he can't persuade the sacred independents to vote for him. Especially in the swing states he is not faring all that well against Biden. If he truly wants to win in 2024 Trump does need to put himself before the entire public. Not doing so is indicates fear, hubris or stupidity.

This what you get when you have a TOTAL incompetent in charge of the Republican National Committee. The donut eating, plastic surgery loving, hair streaking, private jet taking, queen rhino, should have been sent packing in the RNC last election. But, republicans are so incredibly stupid and spineless that they voted this useless Romney back in. What a total waste.
With this chaos, an emergency vote needs to be taken and hopefully Lee Zeldin would run and win. HE and HE alone is the reason that Republicans took the House in 2022. He would know exactly how to handle the upcoming 2024 elections. Dump Ronna Romney NOW!

Well, Abbe, then why not subject your client to live testimony before the House Committees. Obviously, since this is such a blatent forgery, you will be able to prove it easily. Maybe you can get those 51 "intelligence experts" to again agree that it was Russian disinformation.
Yeah, I know. Hunter will take the fifth, over and over again, Let him.

The Loyalty Pledge is STUPID! As usual, the RNC is looking foolish and unable to herd their flock. They are starting the disorganization and non support of their own candidates early this time.

Not voting for Trump or DeSantis if they don't show up for the debates. I'm leaning toward Ramaswamy anyway. He's smarter, more articulate, and classier than Trump or DeSantis and his policies are very similar to Trump's.

Didn’t Trump want to keep Ronna? And, #16, do you think your candidate can win the general election? My priority is giving the nomination to the one with the best chance of beating the evil, lying democrats.

These phony "debates" are absolute garbage not worth a moment of my time. Why not stage a real debate? No monitor. Two candidates. Written questions submitted prior. Strict time limits.

#11, It could also indicate that he is tired of debating not only his adversaries but the moderators too. Fox has never been fair to him and has been outright hostile in the past. Seriously, how many independents or democrats even watch debates this early in the race? This is a debate for political junkies and democrat operatives and both of those groups have already made their minds up most likely.
Frankly, I have mixed feelings about the debate. If Trump is not perfect the media will declare his candidacy dead in the water and if he does well which he will do, they will ignore it. Another thought I have had regarding this is that Americans are sick of everyone piling on PDT and may take any hits below the belt by the candidates or especially by the media not very well. Who knows what will happen but I doubt it will be good for the Republican Party especially since the RNC is involved. No one trusts them because we know Ronna McDaniel and her crew have an agenda and it is to protect the status quo.

Is there anyone mature and responsible left in government? My goodness, you expect this kind of behavior from toddlers but not Republican candidates. Instead of treating the debate as an annoyance, treat it like an opportunity. . .

#18 If the election were held right now he couldn't, but I think he'll open some eyes in the debates. I'll vote for the whoever the nominee is, but right now I like Ramaswamy.

Trump has no reason to debate, we know his strengths and his positions and he wins every debate anyway so why waste his time? Loyalty to the Republicans is a joke. The party is in survival mode and dead to me.

I am with #20. Remember what happened in previously-held debates on Fox? Meghan Kelly asked Trump about calling women fat and Chris Wallace challenged him to denounce white supremacy, essentially accusing the President of being a misogynist and a racist in front of the whole country.
What will likely happen in any debate this election cycle is the same thing that happened in previous debates. Trump will end up debating the moderators.

Once again, the Pubbies come off as the gang who can't shoot straight. Whom do they think would want to join a party that is in constant total disarray and can't figure out a way to give the appearance of being united?
Long ago the Dems mastered the strategy of never criticizing each other in public. They always stand shoulder to shoulder projecting strength rather than chaos and disorder. If they have dirty laundry, they air it behind closed doors. But, not us. Nope. We seem to prefer a public shooting of our own allies. Apparently we don't have the ability to step back and see the big picture. Trump absolutely positively needs support from independents and swing state voters in order to win. Why we can't appear united is beyond me. Sometimes the end really does justify the means. Just stop hacking on each other in public; that would be a good start.

In my mind...President Trump has won it already....and I don't trust the RNC to play fair...lying Ryan controls fox and if he thinks another evening with tainted questions by Brett bair...and some other contrived questionnaire will give him control of the republicans...he's whistling in the wind....more like spitting in the wind....I don't trust the GOP anymore than the DNC...

I was a Republican and still plan to work the polls but I only give to conservative constitutionalists which is a very short list. McCarthy, McConnell, McDaniel and so many other RINOS have lost my trust. FOREVER!
