Washington — The historic federal indictment filed against former President Donald Trump was made public Friday, detailing the charges the former president is facing related to his handling of sensitive government records after leaving the White House. The 44-page indictment filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida alleges that Trump "endeavored to obstruct the FBI and grand jury investigations and conceal retention of classified documents." The indictment names Walt Nauta, an aide to Trump who served as a White House valet, as a co-conspirator. The Justice Department’s indictment of former President Donald Trump is still all the rage on the airwaves and interwebs. Members of the chattering class have been chiming in, giving their two cents on the matter. Renowned Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz recently offered his opinion on the case during an appearance on Newsmax in which he indicated that Trump’s situation is precarious, but his fate isn’t necessarily sealed.
According to Dershowitz, the indictment against Donald Trump is partly serious and partly expected, as possessing classified material may not be damning due to potential defenses under the Presidential Records Act. However,
China has been spying on the United States from a base in Cuba, a Biden administration official said on Saturday, claiming that “this is an issue that this administration inherited.”
The Wall Street Journal, followed by POLITICO and other outlets, reported on Thursday that China had been in conversations with Havana to establish a new spy base in the island nation. That same day, the White House and the Pentagon said the reporting was “inaccurate,” without going into details. On Saturday, an administration official clarified by saying that the Chinese base in Cuba has already been established, noting that it didn’t happen on their watch.
Theodore "Ted" Kaczynski, the man known as the "Unabomber," has died in federal prison at age 81.
He was found unresponsive in his North Carolina prison cell Saturday morning and was pronounced dead at about 8 a.m. Saturday, Kristie Breshears, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons confirmed to USA TODAY. A cause of death was not immediately known. He was serving a life sentence after sending by mail a series of homemade bombs around the country. He pleaded guilty to setting 16 explosions that killed three people and injured 23 others.

If they can prove half of it, he’s toast.” And he believes more than half of what’s in the indictment can be proven.

The United Kingdom’s National Health Service announced on Friday it plans to ban puberty blockers outside of the use of clinical trials as well as increasingly to regulate gender transition treatments for minors.

Wow. The entire Trump classified documents story really took some wild turns on my day off, none of them involving any good news. As Ed pointed out yesterday, the charges against the former President are far more damning than we had originally imagined. In fact, even with a Trump-appointed judge hearing it, Trump’s lawyers may be unable to get the charges dismissed and he could well be convicted… eventually. (That may become important later.)

As RedState reported (and as prior reports indicated), Donald Trump was indicted for a second time on Thursday, this time by the DOJ for alleged violations of the Espionage Act. That relates to documents that he took with him after leaving the White House.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) made their remarks in a joint statement after a judge unsealed special counsel Jack Smith’s historic indictment of Trump, which revealed 37 criminal charges against him.
