Microsoft will pay a fine of $20 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it illegally collected and retained the data of children who signed up to use its Xbox video game console.
The agency charged that Microsoft gathered the data without notifying parents or obtaining their consent, and that it also illegally held onto the data. Those actions violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, the FTC stated.

Michael J. Fox took a tumble during a “Back to the Future” panel at a fan convention on Sunday.
Fox, 61, attended the Fan Expo in Philadelphia along with his former co-stars from the film franchise for a Q&A at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. When Fox was introduced to the panel, he bowed to cast members Christopher Lloyd, 84, and Tom Wilson, 64, who were already onstage.
But Fox — who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 29 in 1991 — seemed to lose his balance and was seen tripping over his feet

UPDATE: Independent journalist Ed Krassenstein reported late Friday that the Rushingbrook Children’s Choir was NOT stopped by the Capitol Police, and the Congressional staff member who was with the group lied about having the proper permissions. Krassenstein acquired a statement from the Capitol Police. “Recently somebody posted a video of a children’s choir singing the Star-Spangled Banner in the U.S. Capitol Building and wrongfully claimed we stopped the performance because it ‘might offend someone.’ Here is the truth,” they said. “Demonstrations and musical performances are not allowed in the U.S. Capitol. Of course, because the singers in this situation were children, our officers were reasonable and allowed

Bless his heart. Perhaps, since he has been around since dirt, President Joe Biden feels the same way about U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi — after all, at the age of 83, the California Democrat is three years his senior.
Biden was speaking at the 2023 We Are EMILY Gala last week, honoring the “incredible” former speaker — so incredible that the president appeared to credit Pelosi with helping “rescue the economy in the Great Depression.”
“I honestly believe that — Nancy, I’ve been saying this for a long time, and I mean it from the bottom of my heart — Nancy Pelosi is going to go down in history as one

“Come on now, L.A.,” Nygaard said. “We didn’t sell out the arena for BG? Like, I expected more, to be honest. It was great, it was loud. But how was it not a sellout? How was it not a sellout

Actor Marcia Gay Harden opened up about how her parenting journey has inspired her LGBTQ advocacy. (Snip) “What drives me is because it’s right and what’s happening right now is wrong,” Harden, 63, told the telethon’s co-host Adam Shankman. “What drives me is — my children are all queer. My eldest child is nonbinary. My son is gay. My youngest is fluid. And you know, they are my kids and they teach me every day.”

A U.S. district court judge ordered University of Wyoming sorority sister plaintiffs to reveal their names in a lawsuit against Kappa Kappa Gamma’s University of Wyoming chapter for allowing a transgender-identifying man to be inducted.
According to local news, “The six sorority sisters sued the Kappa Kappa Gamma’s parent organization, its president and the school’s first transgender sorority member late last month in a closely watched case. Look who’s hanging out again!
Disgraced former New York Rep. Anthony Weiner was spotted out in public with his estranged wife Huma Abedin on Saturday night — more than a year after he said their divorce was “all but finalized. The pair were seen sitting side-by-side at a table at the Ziegfeld Theater in Midtown Manhattan during the annual Inner Circle charity show, which is a major event that brings both the city media and political worlds together for a night of Broadway-like comic skits

Jennifer Aniston said she wishes we could laugh more at ourselves, rather than having to police every word in comedies.
"Comedy has evolved, movies have evolved," the "Friends" star, 54, told AFP in Paris, where her new film "Murder Mystery 2" with Adam Sandler, is set.
"Now it's a little tricky because you have to be very careful, which makes it really hard for comedians, because the beauty of comedy is that we make fun of ourselves, make fun of life," she said.

PHOENIX — Gov. Katie Hobbs on Friday forbade all state agencies under her control from discriminating against workers based on their hair texture and style.
In signing the executive order on Friday, Hobbs said she wants to make sure that Black state employees as well as workers for companies that contract with the state "will be able to wear their natural hair without fear of discrimination."
"More importantly is the message this sends to all Black women, men and children that you deserve to be comfortable wearing your natural hair at school and in the workplace without being perceived as unprofessional or suffering other negative consequences," she said.

Archaeologists in Norway announced on Jan. 17 that they found the world’s oldest rune stone. The flat, square block of brownish sandstone with inscriptions made almost 2,000 years ago may be the first example of writing in Scandinavia.
The so-called Svingerud Stone, discovered in a cremation pit filled with burnt bones and charcoal that date between 1 A.D. and 250 A.D., measured 312.2 inches by 12.6 inches. It was uncovered during an excavation of a grave field in the Hole municipality at the Ringerike region, west of the Norwegian capital Oslo.
