New York Professors Say Earth Day Should
Be a ‘Religious Holiday’ in Time Magazine Op-Ed

Let us pray. No less an authority than TIME magazine has seen fit to publish an opinion piece urging religious observance for the planet and its self-appointed watchkeepers under the headline: The Case For Making Earth Day a Religious Holiday. The editorial work, co-authored by New York professors Paul Greenberg and Carl Safina, was timed to coincide with Earth Day on Saturday. The self-declared environmentalists argued, “on this 53rd Earth Day we thought it useful to pose what a real Earth Day should represent and how it could form a central time for a new approach to worship.”

I was just telling my wife that Earth Day is a "feast day" for liberals and hippies. I remember the first earth day when I was a freshman in college. A bunch of hippies sat around the quad on a nice April day and smoked weed. Those of us who were serious students went to afternoon labs for our science courses.

Biblical prophets had a better record than the original prophets of doom celebrated at the first Earth Day. Hey!, Paul Ehrlich! Can I finally throw out my pantry full of canned tuna you said I should buy in order to survive the oncoming famine. Are the citizens of L. A. giving away their military style gas masks now that the toxic fog hasn't materialized? I supposed the homeless benefited when Goodwill received all those down jackets people bought preparing for the "nuclear winter". I could go on and on but I hope when the truth is revealed and real science returns to prominence these charlatans and their enablers in the media receive the retribution they deserve.

None of this is new; it's pagan roots go back to the beginning of time. As was said in Isaiah 44:9-20: 9 All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless. Those who would speak up for them are blind; they are ignorant, to their own shame. 10 Who shapes a god and casts an idol, which can profit nothing? 11 People who do that will be put to shame; such craftsmen are only human beings. Let them all come together and take their stand; they will be brought down to terror and shame. 12 The blacksmith takes a tool and works with it in the coals; he shapes an idol with hammers, he forges it with the might of his arm. He gets hungry and loses his strength; he drinks no water and grows faint. 13 The carpenter measures with a line and makes an outline with a marker; he roughs it out with chisels and marks it with compasses. He shapes it in human form, human form in all its glory, that it may dwell in a shrine. 14 He cut down cedars, or perhaps took a cypress or oak. He let it grow among the trees of the forest, or planted a pine, and the rain made it grow. 15 It is used as fuel for burning; some of it he takes and warms himself, he kindles a fire and bakes bread. But he also fashions a god and worships it; he makes an idol and bows down to it. 16 Half of the wood he burns in the fire; over it he prepares his meal, he roasts his meat and eats his fill. He also warms himself and says, “Ah! I am warm; I see the fire.” 17 From the rest he makes a god, his idol; he bows down to it and worships. He prays to it and says, “Save me! You are my god!” 18 They know nothing, they understand nothing; their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see, and their minds closed so they cannot understand. 19 No one stops to think, no one has the knowledge or understanding to say, “Half of it I used for fuel; I even baked bread over its coals, I roasted meat and I ate. Shall I make a detestable thing from what is left? Shall I bow down to a block of wood?” 20 Such a person feeds on ashes; a deluded heart misleads him; he cannot save himself, or say, “Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?”

Those under the age of 60 have no clue what the streets, rivers and air look like in the U.S. back in 1972. If they think today's environment looks bad, they should have seen what people lived with and in back then. The air was dirty due to cars and industry. Trash was everywhere, and a river actually caught on fire. Today, in order to see that, one has to travel to China.

Wall Street analysts had expected a two percent increase in gross domestic product after the economy grew 2.6 percent in the final three months of last year. Consumer spending remained very strong, rising 3.7 percent in the January through March period. The weakness came from business investment and inventories, perhaps suggesting that businesses expected a weaker level of consumer spending.
